I think it's because people have a stronger sense of community if they see others pointing out they came from the same place (or in this case video/fandom). It gives them the feeling that they're part of something bigger and cooler that they would normally experience. People are social creatures. Also, wonderful song. Me and my friends were just talking about how we could never get "That Jingle Jangle song" out of our heads after NV and I found this the next day, you've got a ton of talent.
