I know a lot of people are recommending Bricky videos if you wanna get into W40K, and that's fine. He makes great intro videos for people who are new to the hobby. Just know that his videos are also like 70% memes and surface level lore.
Also he tends to get some stuff incorrect. He's wikipedia equivalent of youtuber and wikipedia is like fast food of information, tasty but nothing special. If he wants to go deeper there are much better youtubers and books he could read.
2:06 yeah warhammer is so big its basically like learning a new language. Us fans basically are the people who learned the language watching tv shows and games in that "language" but for someone who had no exposure to warhammer its literally like just picking up a book in idk German and trying to learn it. But it is worth it for sure.
I haven't read much lately but my favorite bits of lore are of Kharn the Betrayer and his visor kill-counter. Kharn, basically the strongest World Eater chaos space marine aside from Angron himself, has never reset the kill-counter in his helmet's visor since the heresy. The actual number is never revealed, but it is implied to be at least in the millions. If I remember correctly, he killed a commander of the Sisters of Silence without noticing, and was momentarily distracted because he had no clue why his kill-counter increased by one.
if you want a break down on what 40k is, Leutin made a new Introduction video with the release of space marine 2 that talks about what it is, in al context, games, books, tabletop, it's a great brief to what it is al labout.
The man in the coffin was extremely important to the mission at hand, because as you saw in the animation when he was praying, those ethereal hands were being turned away by a force field of sorts. He is a sanctioned psyker of the Imperium, and his role in that room was to protect the space marines from the chaos attacks that would attempt to stop them from destroying the heretical monument. When the demon came down from the statue, you could see that they slammed the ground and the bullets stopped as soon as they exited the bubble shield created by the psyker. That is why the demon shot a blade through his chest because once the psyker died, the bubble collapsed and the same time spell that stopped those bullets also stopped the space marines in their tracks and allowed the demon to enter their minds uncontested. Titus and Metaurus only survived the encounter because Titus is literally built different.
The easiest way to get into Warhammer's setting and really understand the dynamics of the galaxy in the 41st Millenium without watching other people explain it to you is to read up on what the Imperium of Man is, the big players inside the Imperium like Primarchs, the inquisition, the Space Marines, the Imperial Guard, etc. and from there you will discover plenty of references within those groups pages to the alien factions and can gravitate towards the ones that seem more interesting to you. Most people who like Warhammer are only superficially knowledgable about factions that aren't their main favorites, but its often enough to have a frame of reference when delving into the setting at large.
that's a psyker in WH40, it's basically a sorcerer and this one here is a Beta or Alpha Psyker which means that they are really capable as you saw that "thing" killed him first as he is a pain in the ass to deal with.
Specifically it was an Astropath who was brought along on the mission to act as a beacon to cut through the planet's interference so the ships in orbit could get accurate coordinates to bombard the mission objective. The coffin acted as protection from the strong influence of the Warp on the planet until they could get him to the objective.
I'm a new fan to the 40k universe, there's really no bad place to start once you have a very general grasp of the universe and what it's about. Between time for work around the house and working out. I listened to a couple lore and timeline videos before diving into Helsreach and it's subsequent fan movie here on YT (after a rocky start with Titanicus, I love mechs and the first 80-90% of the book, but it was resolved poorly) and it's follow up, Blood and Fire. I stayed with the author to check out The Grey Knights in The Emperor's gift before I then moved on to WarBoss for some good ole Ork action and Mark of Faith for the Sisters of Battle before I start a deeper dive on stuff like The Horus Heresy. TLDR- Start where factions or characters interest you, or jump into the deep stuff, it's truly your own choice. Also, the weapon the the child is using is a Space Marine's combat knife as absurd as it seems.
Syama Peterson worked on this too. You can see his name under 'Layout Artist'. I'm guessing they leaned heavilly on his art style given the MASSIVE popularity of 'Astartes'. That's actually the thing that got me into Warhammer in the first place.
The video you just watch is the most evolved 40K animation. Your indifference to the material here won't improve with further investigation . 40K fans minds melted
You were pretty much on the money when you said the one with the green eye lenses was the leader. Specifically for this group, ultramarines, they paint thier armour blue. The ones with red helmets and green lenses are the sergeants. 👍
Check out some Bricky videos!! Is there a mixture of accuracy to the lore and also some memes. People say that bricky gives inaccurate information but really it's just oversimplified. For straight up lore and a relaxing british voice check out luetin09. But the Bricky factions explained video and the Legions Explained along with his newer what is 40k videos are the best way to get into them. Do some reactions to them!
Like others here said, Bricky's vidoes are a great intro into the universe, there's also Helsreach "The Movie" here on youtube that catches the atmosphere of the Imperium pretty well. When it comes to books, there is no start or end, you can pick up any and go (unless you go with the Horus Heresy series but that's a 40k prequal thing.... a 50+ books prequal, but its not necessary to understand 40k) The Eisenhorn trilogy is my fav set of 40k books, think grimdark James Bond in space with a little dash of lovecraftian horror. PS: the green eyes is just because red eyes + red helmet looks bad, that's it lol. The red helmet itself is how the Ultramarines (not all Space Marines) marks their Seargents tho, so you were close.
Id like to add 30k is also like it's own thing. There even people who just enjoy 30k and ignore 40k. Speaking of books it's good idea to look up read-order chart for horus heresy/30k!
"He wants the 1000 kill streak" Have you ever heard of the legend of Kharn the Betrayer??
No but I feel I need to now...

It's not a story the Imperium would tell you...
Warhammer is British, and was created in '83.
83! Whaaaat I thought it was late 90’s or something, wild!
@TrophyReacts yeah, it's been around for a while, but it's nice to see it becoming more and more mainstream
The more you know, eh?
Space marines don’t talk to eachother, unless needed. Movement and dialogue in the space marine game is not lore accurate. This is.

I got into 40k this year. It can be done.
If you’re gonna play Space Marine 2 you should play the first one before, having the context for the story is cool and both games are great
Warrior Tier channel is great!
“Name of this rain” buddy it ain’t that bad, the weapon he is holding is called a chain sword btw
So they're carrying a Man with a specialized coffin alive?

There is zero way the psyker in the coffin is beta or alpha level, those are the 3rd and 2nd highest levels.
