The chorus was originally written by Bebe Rexha and was intended to be on her own debut album and was originally called "Monster Under My Bed". The chorus would later be used for "The Monster". The song is about coming to terms with one's inner struggles, and being able to accept the darker aspects of oneself. The lyrics talk about living with the pressures of fame and success, while also trying to cope with their own inner demons and self-doubt. Once again, I don't know who truthful this information is, and I'm not trying to say others are wrong about the meaning of the song, and I do respect any other peoples opinions and thoughts. The way Eminem catches your mood at every song in a different level is amazing. He always has a meaning behind each song. For example Mockingbird reflecting on his daughter(s). This music video/ song is beyond genius. You do realize he’s being hypnotized in the beginning and reliving his life backwards in inception right? When he gets to the basement he meets “Slim Shady”. The man that was angry and drugged out that he buried to better himself and become sober. He knows he will never truly come back and keeps him caged inside. According to a close friend to the director the note reads (Let me out). The look on Ems face at the end says it all and I get the chill every time I see shady in that cage. We will never see another artist like this in our lifetime.
