Thanks for this video, the lights always being "ON" on my 2003 Tracker was bugging me. I was beginning to wonder why even have a light switch. So I watched your video this morning and went out and did what you did and now it's fixed. Wish TH-cam was around back in the day... Thanks again!!
Outstanding video !!! Im from Guatemala 🇬🇹 so i got my tracker 99 4×2 manual transmission so i was struggling with DLR until i found this video i just wanna say thank u for taking the time to bring up this troubleshooting so i just plugged out the relay that's on the upper dash right corner. Did not even need to cut the red wire down and works out.!!!
Update Since I didn't know the position in plug of correct wire. I referred to your video and repair manual wire diagram. And found correct wire by removing red/white wire from plug to replace in plug if I was wrong. Taped it up. Looks good so far. Thanks for your video
This video has been out here for 6 years but now I see it!! I bought my 2002 ZR-2 in December 2013--same color. It had many problems but is still mechanically good since purchase. This video would have been a help... I disconnected the DRL in 2014 because the circuit board was toast. In 2017 I installed a Remote Start but the DRL Sensor in the dash interfered with the lights. Now I disconnected it today, and the problem is solved. Thanks!!! The other nagging issues are slow wipers and the ZR-2 has used 2 batteries in 6 years...
Thanks for sharing, you're awesome dude.Tried the raising of hand brake a little that someone else mentioned , kept getting annoyed with brake sign always on plus you won't know when you have real problem.Don't recommend hand brake trick, the way this guy did is very simple to do.😄👍
The easier way to do this without modifying the vehicle is to pull the e-brake lever up to it's first click and then start the car. DONE! (except now you have an annoying brake indicator lamp lit on your instrument panel, but it gives you manual control over the lights. It works because the handbrake DRL interlock will not turn the relay on when the park brake is set. You only need it to be off the rest state for the BCM to think it's set, but unless you have a REALLY tight cable, the first ratchet catch on the lever will not actually engage the brake. You're welcome! :-)
+LCARS43278 thank you, I was already aware of the handbrake trick... but it just got super annoying and my way does not give you the brake light on the dash. It is also important to know that the low brake fluid sensor also uses the same brake light so having it on all the time doesn't really seem safe.. but to each his own, cheers
Why did you disconnect the sensor if you're cutting the wire in the box? The video also says if you install a switch to the red/white wire to leave the sensor plugged in, so why disconnect the sensor even without using a switch?
First of all I'm a big fan of all your tracker videos. I just bought my first Vitara and am going to do a lift and tires to start with. Anyway, I was wondering what is the purpose of cutting the wire? I just unplugged the light sensor and it seems to work just fine without cutting the wire. Just making sure I'm not missing something.
Thanks man... It seems like all trackers are different lol. The wire that gets cut is wire that the module uses to ground the headlight/taillight relays. Sometimes just unplugging the sensor works, sometimes it doesn't. Cutting the #6 wire on the drl plug is just a fail safe in case unplugging the sensor doesn't work.
Okay so just unplugging the sensor the car wants to lock the doors by itself after about a minute. I'll cut the wire and see if that works. These cars are a little quirky but I like them.
Thank you for the video but I have a question if you can help me please so my 2001 ZR2 indicator lights front and the back lights with the plate light and the dashboard lights not working any clue I checked all the fuses they looks good
is that plug with the white/red wirego back into the silver box after cutting the wire? sorry for such a stupid question / the only plugdown there is already plugged into the silver box? unplug it cut and replug?
I have a 2000 vitara and my wire in that location on the plug is black and white. Opposite corner on plug is white red stripe. Can you clarify where the connector release is on the plug. Plz
I just came into a tracker and the wiring is a mess, but we just got everything back together except for the silver box, do you know what the part number is for that box?
Recently had a engine and light problem, and battery drain problem. Didn't think I had DRL because it never worked, but the auto headlamp module worked when it gets dark. I thought both functions worked through the DRL module so I just unplugged it under the dash. Turns out unplugging it had no affect on the dome light function or the auto headlight function (WTF?). We'll see if it takes care of my battery drain. Way too much wiring in these Trackers and no service manual I could find has the section "8" wiring diagrams.
My roommate has an 01 tracker and the headlight won't turn off at all even with the engine off and key out. We'll see if we can get to the module to cut the wire.
I had so many issues finding because mine is a 5 speed and parking brake doesn't let drl's come on while brake is engaged. I had to chaulk wheels and put parking brake down.
I have a 2004 zr2 theres 2 wires that are red and white, both on each corner of the plug, don't want to cut it til I'm sure which one it is, couldn't quite tell from the video, thanks
I an hour ago watched this and had the Same question,i did cut 1 of, apparently got the Right 1 lol Very helpful... If your not sure, hit me up. John Russell on fb
Audio definitely sucked but the video helped, just did this and now I can use the switch for it's intended goddamn purpose instead of the automatic bullsh!t feature which should not be on any stupid vehicle. Hell yeah bro
Ha we enjoy the vids forsure youre the go to guy to learn about trackers ill keep lookout for the next one. I heard you tackling the timing chain soon good luck with that, my tensioners are nice and tight so far which im glad about. You got some nice updates to yours especially what you did to the 4x4, since you keep the body of the car protected would you consider dropping in a v6 into yours whenever the engine gives out? After I had to hit a junk yard due to discontinued break parts I now put a cover of underbody spray under the whole car and break lines which works wonders to protect from winter snow/salt being from michigan.
+John Doe yeah thanks, my buddy has a 2.5 that we will be doin the timing chain on in a few weeks, so that will be interesting. As long as your tensioners stay tight, you should be good. When my engine goes out, I will prolly hop it up (cam, header, bore). I like all the room in the engine bay and the fact it is a lite engine with a timing belt. Face book has tons of suzuki/tracker group pages. I am apart of a few, and it always interesting to see others builds and there is usually someone who will answer your questions quickly
If only the timing chain was easy to get to.. II last had a 95 audi A6 with a timing belt that wasnt too old yet the belt snapped unannounced while driving damaging the engine so I figure to be safer now usually a chain gives more time to tell that its loose before snapping. I got 145k on mine running great other than both front windows are starting to fall off the tracks, i assume you many have already fixed that problem..
+John Doe eah, that's prolly true about the chain vs belt.. as far as the windows, I have manual windows and they started to "kink" when winding them up. I used silicone spray with a straw and shoved the straw (with the window down) between the window and the track from the top of the door and gave a good spray at the front and back of the window and the problem cleared up
Right on ill try some silicone spray to see if stops from catching off track, I heard that silicone spray on wiper blades will make them last a long time so ill give that a try as well..
@@MrSputnik1988 - I put in a switch in my 05 GV three position. On Off Automatic. That way I can force on or off or automatic my lights. I use my GV for traveling only, and I generally take long road trips with all light lit all the time. All lights out for stealthy things >:)
@@MrSputnik1988 Thank you, I have a 2000 Grand Vitara. I am pulling a small trailer this will help out a great deal, as to not have all lights on all the time. Appreciate it. I will post once I've got it done.
I did it and it works great on an 04 Tracker. However, when I turn off the truck under the dash makes a few faint beeps, then is quiet. Has anyone run into it? It seems to come from the silver box. Other than that it's good, thanks for the video.
+Nick Bentley happy to help, as for the beeps, I have never heard of it before... not sure what would cause it. I've done this to two 2nd gens and haven't had an issue
Hey, Found out the sound, it was from disconnecting the battery and Sony decks have this default setting to beep to remind you to take the faceplate off the stereo. Went into settings and turned it off no problem.
Thanks for the tracker vids I recently got a 2002 LT and Ive enjoyed its 4x4 and these are great on gas, the running light cut off worked great for me thanks alot man for your vids. How many miles you got on your tracker?
+John Doe your welcome man. I have about 167,000 miles on it now. I'm due for another update video cuz mine has come a long way since the last one I put out. I'll try to make it short and sweet cuz I know I get long winded on some of the vids lol
To disable DRL on 2002 tracker: access the rear console section for the parking brake, remove the wire from the parking brake light switch, attach the end of this wire ( which is a ground) to ground wire (black wire)on the cigarette lighter which is in this same console section and its done, your DRL is disabled , its that easy. You will now have the parking brake indicator light on in you dash gauges even when you parking brake is not engaged. You can put black tape over this indicator light on your dash or remove that bulb in your instrument cluster which is what I did. Very easy fix to disable your Tracker DRL.
I forget the years, but whatever it said online. I believe it was 2005 to 2014 or something. Or is it the same all the way up? It just looks newer than this one in the picture
+CENTAUR559 Ahh, ok. 05 and up are a totally different animal, they are a different body style... So my video would only work on 99 to 04. I personally don't know how to do it on the 3rd gens
great video I just did this the only thing is when I plugged the plug on the need to dash back in the headlights were still on but the tail lights were off so I went and left the plug unplugged and everything seems to work fine I hate daytime running lights too
why apart from it being illegal to do that in Canada its a safety issue. you cannot do that and run on the street in most provinces. since you sound so canadian
Yes, that is an option... But it turns on the "brake" light, and that light also turns on when you have low brake fluid, so if you lose brake fluid, you wouldn't know till it was too late

Always nice to know. Currently I have a no dash lights no tail lights/running lights problem. Good fuse and relay.
