Btw, your reading was great, the translation could be improved, but a lot of those words are challenging even for natives. I am not 100% sure about the exact meaning of many of them and I could not translate some either.
You did great, although some translations were not exactly on point (the funniest for me was Brd, which is the mountain range called Brdy and not Germany 😂). Some of the words there are not generally used, so there is no shame in not being able to translate them. And some of the sentences didn't even make much sense and you managed to translate them well. For the pronunciation - you can imagine, that we use R and L instead of vowels in these words. They are called Syllabic consonants en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syllabic_consonant#Slavic_languages

Skutečně přetěžká báseň. I na rodilého Čecha. Možná je ještě těžší na pochopení, než na výslovnost. Nicméně krásně ukazuje bohatost a rozmanitost našeho jazyka. Nedávno jsem mluvil s kamarádem cizincem a divil se, že pro slovo "matka" máme minimálně šest výrazů. :) Jop, jsem hrdý na náš jazyk (i když je určitě pro cizince velice těžký).

Great job on translating this poem. Those are words that hardly anbody use in common czech language. Mr Řeháček did a good job on creating a poem out of these words without vowels. And it has some sense too (not that much).:-D. This word srn. Its from word srna-doe.

Excellent pronunciation and entertaining interpretation! "VSRKL" - means "once deeply sip, sipped deeply"; "BRD" is a genitive from the word Brdy (mountains southwest of Prague). RNDr. is "rerum naturalium doctor" Doctor of (natural) Science. Your "Shut up in death" is great!!!- I will use it in my expressive speech. Thanks... But we also have real poems in the Czechia.
Great job with the pronounciation! This poem is difficult to pronounce even in Czech (I mean, it's not a big deal to use a few words without vowels in a sentence, but so much text without vowels is difficult to recite). The only thing I'd like to say that the word Brd does NOT mean "Bundesrepublik Deutschland". It is a genitive form of "Brdy", which is range of hills, southwest from Prague.

Zmrzl (froze)-sometimes means ''to get shocked'' in past tense. Good job anyway. It's really hard to translate poems without vowels. Actually I could barely translate it as well, even though I am Czech. 😅👌

Well done! I´ll forward this link to my relatives in the US :-) BTW, (perhaps someone referred to it before me), Brd is genitive of Brdy, a hilly area SW of Prague. And you´ve correctly guessed the SRN - it´s indeed the genitive plural of SRNA (doe). "SRN" as an acronym for Germany is not generally used at all nowadays. And, thirdly: actually, the poem´s not vowel-less. All the Ls and Rs are in vowel positions and are called "vocalic L, R". They are vowels, of sorts, though they might not look like ones :-)

Potatoes for a pig and the pig for me." And you did good with the poem. Only one think: "Brd"is not in Germany. The poem makes perfect sense. Its more like lyric, but it makes sense. And it could be explained in few easy sentences. Brnkl - the dog, as he was running down the hill means, that he struck a piece of something with his leg and fell down. So, he had not the brakes, so accident happened. Thank you so much! You are doing well. And thank you, I did not know this beautiful poem - or more like exercise in pronunciation.

Hi Jen, the old Quibbler here! :D You have passed 99% of hyper-obstacles the author of this "poem" had put into your way without losing a point - hands down I will not complain a word since today you did not deserve one. ;) The author was very creative in use of certain words in the way they are not generally used, because mostly there is no need for it - like imperative of "chrnět" or "trčet", because imperative demands state of present mind of ordered person - and sleeping ones are not consicous and - "trčí" (sticks out) usually non-living object which can not be ordered to do anything. Your findings on "cvrnknout" really made me laugh...! Truly! :D :D :D Thank you very much for this video - as far as I know no foreigner (not mentioning Czech) in so far showed so much effort to translate something so untranslatable like you did! ;) Besides - years ago I read one sci-fi detective novel and the detective in it cited an extract of typical rhyme one poet of his time - try to read it loud and (translate) properely: "...řev ker již zkřeh, dře led dnem šelf...". I use the tounge twister strc prst skrz krk for my Aussie friends and its direct translation: thrust your thumb through your throat for my students in the English class. Woeks a treat both ways! 👍😂😂😂

And in short version, this poem is about wolf living in forest near Prag (now is district "Krč" - its name of district), just for fun. Nothing smart in this poem. Zhrdl - past tense from zhrdnout (zpychnout) = became proud - hrdý, pyšný Šmrnc = flair or style or good way of fashion. Czech uses also word glanc - it means the same and it is something so nice and shiny that just you like it for the very first look (glance). Vsrkl - past tense from vsrknout (vsát) = suck in Srn - plural for srna = doe, a lot of does (srn) Smršť = something that goes too fast one by one (stones or actions) or a small tornado Vln = plural of vlna = wave - A lot of waves (vln) Trkl - past tense for trkat - to pinch with the horn(s) or it is used when you understand instantly something obvious (trklo mne to = you were pinched with it) Crč = imperative for flow (crčet = when something flows quickly through a small hole, for example water or a blood but just down - not around) "Krk vchrstl hlt žbrnd v prsť = The neck vomited a gulp of something liquid into dirt from leaves. Žbrnda is an old slang word for something sparse and liquid and not tasty (like if someone wants to make too much soup from very little food). Vrtl = paste tense for vrtnout = tu place something into something - it is more used as "vrtnout se" - she doesn´t know where to place herself or where to go or what to do Šprt škrtl - it means here to set fire. Škrtnout could be also to use (safety) match or maybe two stones for some spark. So the "srš" was to fire - not to dog - he wanted some flames. Brd - from hils called Brdy. BTW, brd in old Czech means realy deep forest. Zdrž (zdržet) - he probably wanted to slowdown the burning Chrt drkl, zvrhl krb = The grayhound bumped (into the fireplace) so the fireplace fell down. Zvrhnout = to make something fall down. (Even the entertaining can fall down and become perverted (zvrhlý)) Frrrrrrr - used for specialy for birds or insects - the noise made by wings when the bird flies too quickly - for example hummingbird. And it´s used as a synonym for very quick movement. The verb frnknout is from that (fly away, run away, escape). Brkl - past tense for brknout - to stumble. So that´s why he couldn´t stop himself. So the brakes are just metaphor. The story is just for some fun but does it makes more sense to you? :)

Báseň je o absenci samohlásek :p Smysl moc nedává, některé věty jsou dobré, ale zbytek působí dost nuceně.

Nutno posoudit v časovém kontextu a myšlené vzdálenosti. Zdrhat plch mohl stejně tak z Brd jako z BRD (potom to vzal přes Plzeň)

Great job on translating this poem. Those are words that hardly anbody use in common czech language. Mr Řeháček did a good job on creating a poem out of these words without vowels. And it has some sense too (not that much).:-D.

Excellent pronunciation and entertaining interpretation! "VSRKL" - means "once deeply sip, sipped deeply"; "BRD" is a genitive from the word Brdy (mountains southwest of Prague). RNDr. is "rerum naturalium doctor" Doctor of (natural) Science. Your "Shut up in death" is great!!!- I will use it in my expressive speech. Thanks... But we also have real poems in the Czechia.
Great job with the pronounciation! This poem is difficult to pronounce even in Czech (I mean, it's not a big deal to use a few words without vowels in a sentence, but so much text without vowels is difficult to recite). The only thing I'd like to say that the word Brd does NOT mean "Bundesrepublik Deutschland". It is a genitive form of "Brdy", which is range of hills, southwest from Prague.

Zdravím Jen, jste skvělá, vždy se pobavím, zasměji a obdivuji Vás, jak dokážete najít pokaždé úžasné téma, něco krásného a pozitivního o naší zemi, kultuře, historii i v našem těžkém, přetěžkém jazyce! Ve větě: " Pšššt, zhrdl vlk..." si myslím, že zhrdl by mělo mít význam "pohrdl", od slova pohrdat, ale nedává to smysl. Případně " z hrdla", což znamená, z krku ...mu vyšlo Pššššt, ale nevím, je to trochu jinak napsané, než by mělo správně být. :-) Každopádně, moc se těším na další video a pozdravuji naši překrásnou Matičku Prahu !!!
Zmrzl (froze)-sometimes means ''to get shocked'' in past tense. Good job anyway. It's really hard to translate poems without vowels. Actually I could barely translate it as well, even though I am Czech. 😅👌

Well done! I´ll forward this link to my relatives in the US :-) BTW, (perhaps someone referred to it before me), Brd is genitive of Brdy, a hilly area SW of Prague. And you´ve correctly guessed the SRN - it´s indeed the genitive plural of SRNA (doe). "SRN" as an acronym for Germany is not generally used at all nowadays. And, thirdly: actually, the poem´s not vowel-less. All the Ls and Rs are in vowel positions and are called "vocalic L, R". They are vowels, of sorts, though they might not look like ones :-)

"Vowels are like vegetables they just take up room on the plate." I love this description of vegetables. It reminds me the sceen from the Slavnosti Sněženek movie: "I like potatoes. Potatoes for a pig and the pig for me." And you did good with the poem. Only one think: "Brd"is not in Germany. It is "Brdy" and it's mostly forested land in South-West part of Central Bohemia (along the D5 highway)

The poem makes perfect sense. Its more like lyric, but it makes sense. And it could be explained in few easy sentences. Brnkl - the dog, as he was running down the hill means, that he struck a piece of something with his leg and fell down. So, he had not the brakes, so accident happened.

Pane jo! To bylo hodně těžké, to vám muselo dát zabrat, gratuluji. Ta báseň smysl příliš nedává, je to jenom úporná snaha vynechat samohlásky. Spíš bych vám doporučil jednoslabičnou pohádku od Jana Wericha Chlap, děd, vnuk, pes a hrob. Je to mnohem lepší ukázka, jak pracovat s češtinou.

You have passed 99% of hyper-obstacles the author of this "poem" had put into your way without losing a point - hands down I will not complain a word since today you did not deserve one. ;)
The author was very creative in use of certain words in the way they are not generally used, because mostly there is no need for it - like imperative of "chrnět" or "trčet", because imperative demands state of present mind of ordered person - and sleeping ones are not consicous and - "trčí" (sticks out) usually non-living object which can not be ordered to do anything.
Your findings on "cvrnknout" really made me laugh...! Truly! :D :D :D Thank you very much for this video - as far as I know no foreigner (not mentioning Czech) in so far showed so much effort to translate something so untranslatable like you did! ;)
Besides - years ago I read one sci-fi detective novel and the detective in it cited an extract of typical rhyme one poet of his time - try to read it loud and (translate) properely:
"...řev ker již zkřeh, dře led dnem šelf...". Enjoy! :D

Hi Jen, amazing effort! 👍👏👏👏just a quick note on Brd. I strongly believe that the Brdy is a Czech mountain range. I use the tounge twister strc prst skrz krk for my Aussie friends and its direct translation: thrust your thumb through your throat for my students in the English class. Woeks a treat both ways! 👍😂😂😂

excelent work!, some mystakes, but even our people make some mystakes here too. Many of this words not using anymore in our language, thei are more "archaism". And in short version, this poem is about wolf living in forest near Prag (now is district "Krč" - its name of district), just for fun. Nothing smart in this poem. And many poeple says about others words.

You did very well! As for Czech words without vowels, I found somewhere that the longest one is "scvrnkls" (you flicked off). As for RNDr towards the end of the '"poem" stands for Rerum Naturarum Doctor, or doctor of natural sciences.

Zhrdl - past tense from zhrdnout (zpychnout) = became proud - hrdý, pyšný
Šmrnc = flair or style or good way of fashion. Czech uses also word glanc - it means the same and it is something so nice and shiny that just you like it for the very first look (glance).
Vsrkl - past tense from vsrknout (vsát) = suck in
Srn - plural for srna = doe, a lot of does (srn)
Smršť = something that goes too fast one by one (stones or actions) or a small tornado
Vln = plural of vlna = wave - A lot of waves (vln)
Trkl - past tense for trkat - to pinch with the horn(s) or it is used when you understand instantly something obvious (trklo mne to = you were pinched with it)
Crč = imperative for flow (crčet = when something flows quickly through a small hole, for example water or a blood but just down - not around)
"Krk vchrstl hlt žbrnd v prsť = The neck vomited a gulp of something liquid into dirt from leaves. Žbrnda is an old slang word for something sparse and liquid and not tasty (like if someone wants to make too much soup from very little food).
Vrtl = paste tense for vrtnout = tu place something into something - it is more used as "vrtnout se" - she doesn´t know where to place herself or where to go or what to do
Šprt škrtl - it means here to set fire. Škrtnout could be also to use (safety) match or maybe two stones for some spark. So the "srš" was to fire - not to dog - he wanted some flames.
Brd - from hils called Brdy. BTW, brd in old Czech means realy deep forest.
Zdrž (zdržet) - he probably wanted to slowdown the burning
Chrt drkl, zvrhl krb = The grayhound bumped (into the fireplace) so the fireplace fell down. Zvrhnout = to make something fall down. (Even the entertaining can fall down and become perverted (zvrhlý))
Frrrrrrr - used for specialy for birds or insects - the noise made by wings when the bird flies too quickly - for example hummingbird. And it´s used as a synonym for very quick movement. The verb frnknout is from that (fly away, run away, escape).
Brkl - past tense for brknout - to stumble. So that´s why he couldn´t stop himself. So the brakes are just metaphor.
The story is just for some fun but does it makes more sense to you? :)

Wow, this was intense. Even kind of weirdly uncomfortable to listen to. :-D I did not know o many of these words and sometimes you understood it better. I did not realise the meaning of certain words until you translated them.
