I just bought a Seiko SRPD83K1 online as a birthdaygift fot myself, in Champagne color just of the shear look of it. I didn't knew it could be modified but that's going to open up a new door for me! I really appreciate your video! Thanks and I will follow your channel. Thanks for putting some new idea's in my head! 😉
Marc, you are a poet, a musician. You play (assemble) a wonderful symphony with all your instruments (components) with taste and intelligence ant the result is gorgeous. This MOD watch is simply gorgeous. Congratulations!
Thousands of watch nerds: *staring with anxiety* Marc: Nervous friendly laughter as he pulls parts and hacks a watch together better than i could even dream.
The stuff he did in this video is pretty simple actually. I was really nervous taking a movement and Crystal out the first time, but it was surprisingly easy and fun!
I was really hoping to see a case swap, it would be cool to mod these to get the 200m water resistance. I have to say the video was really fun to watch and the enthusiasm is contagious!
I have swapped my 5kx into a 200m skx style case that I bought online. 4r36 stems and crowns are compatible with nh35/36 stems as well. Pretty much the only way to get 200m out of these
Very pleasing. Good to know the modding options. In a way, it's ironic, though. The new Seiko 5 is really a rollout of a "factory mod" concept... a varied range of color- and texture-coordinated factory-original styles. They're furnishing a platform for their own in-house "mod" look. So, when I watched you work through this I thought "Dayum, Marc is opening up just the thing that Seiko is trying to own." ... and you made it look really REALLY good!
I modded all three of my SKX’s (Saphire crystal, lumed bezel insertert, and bracelets on all)...I’ve decided not to bother with purchase the new ‘dive style’ 5KX watches as there is no mod for adding a screw down crown(5KX doesn’t have it)or to turn them in to an actual dive watch that they pretend to be. Instead I’m just going to purchase another long island watch from you Mark...You’ve already done all the work! And you gave us the watch that everyone wanted Seiko to give us. They dropped the ball...And you picked it up and ran with it! Sapphire Crystal, a nice bracelet with a proper class, Hacking in hand winding with the NH35/36 movement, lumed or ceramic inserts etc... Too many choices though, Having a tough time picking! 😉
Great tip on getting those end lugs to fit with the narrower spring bars. The crimp I had never thought of. There are some spring bar "curving" tools that might help maintain the integrity of the bar's case, but the crimp gets it done quick and easy. And "Frankel-ly" that black bezel insert is da bomb and makes a very interesting contrast compared to the blue or the metallic. Stuff like this makes me wonder how much design decisions are based on existing manufacturing capabilities and suppliers. In my time modding the "same" Chinese watch case from different suppliers, I have found differences in threading, movement ring, case inside diameter, dial diameter, and spring bar holes locations that can drive you nuts with a one-off situation every time you try something different. I can see why people mod Seiko for the initial quality and consistency of fit. Thank you. Great lesson.
Every time I purchase a watch I tell myself, you don’t need another watch and then time passes a bit, another watch catches my attention and the cycle begins and I go get it, I love timepieces, nothing I can do but surrender to my love for watches...
Nice demo 👍. Like your improvised curved spring bars. There is at least one entity out there that makes curved spring bars. I believe there is a seller in NJ, also and are available in different sizes. About 3 years back, I had to buy a set for 26mm lugs and they worked great.
Just ordered the SRPD61, I would've bought it from you but you don't have it. However I plan to buy a Sapphire crystal and maybe some other parts from you, so this video answered all the questions I had on whether or not the parts from a 007 will fit. Thanks for this video. :)
You knew this was going to work as they basically just updated the dial and the movement! :) Thanks for the video to verify though! Helps all modders out there!
On the spring bars @marc - do you not need to account for lost length when you bend the bars? Typically if we put slightly shorter end links its easier for a "slap on the wrist" to disengage the bracelet
I was watching a different watchmaker mod a 5KX and they said that the gaskets That are used in the SKX or thicker and not transferable to the 5KX or vice versa. So I guess it’s important to not mess up the five 5KX gaskets Or at least make sure to order the correct replacement
Thanks for posting mate, this will be helpful👌 I am still waiting for my SRPD79K1 being shipped from the factory overseas. A few upgrades I want to make such as the crystal and bezel insert.
The problem isn't the nib. The problem is (I think) that the chapter rings are slightly undersized and require careful alignment before pressing the crystal down, and careful operation of the press to keep them from moving while the crystal is being seated.
I don't need another watch either Mark. But that doesn't stop me from having two more mods in the works. Do these Seiko case backs fit on aftermarket cases? One of the pieces I'm working on is a captain Willard style case. I would like to put a glass case back on it and I think the SRP case backs should work. Just not sure.....🤔
Marc, If you order a bracelet for the new 5's from Strapcode, they do include curved spring bars to fit, along with a pair of fat bars, should you want to swap the bracelet over to an SKX. I ordered a Super J for my SRPD71 just after Christmas. I wish we could post pictures in these comments, because it looks phenomenal! Amazing how something as simple as a strap or bracelet change can change the entire look of a watch. I also put a Super J on my SSA343 Presage. 🙂
Marc, did you miss one thing? I don't think you tried the aftermarket bezel insert on the original 5kx bezel. Only tried in the sub bezel, right? Also looks like the end link profile is a bit off at the lug tip. Couldn't exactly tell viewing on my phone.
Great video, thanks. When you look at it, it would have cost Seiko about 50 cents to thread a crown tube and the die hards would have been sooooooo much happier. Missed opportunity there.
I purchased a srpb53 Pepsi seiko 5 two days back and it’s beautiful. This video helped me decide that when I wanna change it up I’ll get skx coin edge bezel and skx Pepsi insert with lume pip. Can a bezel be done without a press?
Mark, how are you, can you tell me what is the different between 7s26,7s26c,7s26-3100 and 7s26-3040, can it all fit sit in SKX007, thank for your reply.
Hey, I actually heard from a mod channel that the 007 crystal gasket are actually different from the new Seiko 5 crystal gasket, you can get your crystal pop out if you use the 007 crystal gasket
Update. The New Miltat Bracelets made for the Seiko 5, Come with thick spring bars.. And these New ones fit perfectly! They aren't easy too fit.. But once installed they are solid 👌
Is it possible to change the chapter right by removing the crystal? Planning to mod a 5kx bezel insert and add a double dome crystal... wondering if I can swap the chapter ring while I've got the crystal off?
@Long Island Watch Hello! I want to put an NH36 stem and crown on a 7S26 movement. It's possible? I can't seem to find any 7S26 stems on aliexpress and that's like my only option because of the country that I live in. I can only find signed crowns for NH36 modded SKXs. Thank you!
I think the gaskets are a different thickness if I'm not mistaken if you're starting from scratch the gaskets to the new Seiko 5 are thinner then the skx gaskets I'm pretty sure that the outside of the crown those are the only three things that aren't interchangeable
Hi Marc, great video, thank you. Have you performed any pressure testing to confirm that the crystal stays in place at 10 bar? Also what about widening the lug holes, by drilling them larger? Again thank you for the video and the attention!
Awesome video Marc. I just picked up this watch and was wondering what mods I could do. I never thought of a black bezel but that looks amazing with the deep blue dial. Also love that strap, do you carry those or is it strap code
I thought the sapphire gasket thickness was different on the SRPD and needs to be changed when you want to use a SKX sapphire? Can you confirmed if you did reuse the original gasket?
that domed saphire does not fit that bezel. but, you can make itwork i guess. nice dial i like that dial. I just wish I could find a good seiko dial oem manafacturer.
Hey Marc, good video. I'm trying to cop a mini turtle in the near future. Was wondering if you knew any sources for bezel/bezel inserts? Google yields nothing!
Strapcode released a line of bracelets for the 5KX as soon as they launched. From what I've seen in another video, even the shape of the lugs is slightly different from the SKX.
Thank you. I have the Pepsi Seiko 5 (5KX)...I am looking to get at least a ceramic bezel insert and possibly a double dome sapphire crystal with it. Do I need the new crystal? , or can I just get a ceramic bezel insert and pop it in?
I wish you done this before I got my SK 5 green dial form you, a couple of days ago I just got it but I wanted to mod mine, with the parts you sell, anyway the qustion is answered, thanks
Marc goes into every video with the Enthusiasm of someone opening up a present on Christmas day. Gotta love this guy.
Thank you

They actually make spring bar bending pliers
Awesome transformation, Marc! I really wanted that YachtMaster style bezel insert to work as much as you did though.
Thanks for the informative video Marc. I have the exact version that you modded. The sapphire crystal and plain chapter ring are a great upgrade.
Thank you.
I love the raw videos like this. Really random and real, it gives me confidence working on my watch mods. You're awesome.
Good to see how all the parts fit together. Nice job Marc! Thanks for the video. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Welcome!
For me, you know what makes it all come together? That metal blank chapter ring. Great idea.
Thanks so much.
Mark, Same with the turtle case drilled lugs, the SKX pins won't fit either. Thanks for this video, this is a lot of valuable info!! Cheers!
Welcome!

I had a very good feeling about it.
Hi Marc, can I put a ceramic bezel insert on the seiko 5 without also changing the hardlex or the bezel? I've heard that their is an "unsightly gap".
i actually loved the first bezel insert!
On the spring bars @marc - do you not need to account for lost length when you bend the bars? Typically if we put slightly shorter end links its easier for a "slap on the wrist" to disengage the bracelet
I saw a video about this on LIV watch and I believe that the crystal gasket is different between the 5KX and SKX.
Yup

That double domed sapphire looks beautiful
Thanks
Great stuff Marc - Many thanks for showing how this works with the SKX parts 👍👏
Thanks for posting mate, this will be helpful👌

👍🏻 nice job! Pretty sad that Seiko messed with the spring-bar holes though.
Hahaha, "It's got that famous nib on it for alignment..."
Shame no one told Seiko.
The problem isn't the nib. The problem is (I think) that the chapter rings are slightly undersized and require careful alignment before pressing the crystal down, and careful operation of the press to keep them from moving while the crystal is being seated.
"famous nib on it for MISalignment"
I like that yellow watch in the poster! 💥
Great video Marc. I am sure a lot of people wanted to know if you could mod the new series.
As did I!
I don't need another watch either Mark. But that doesn't stop me from having two more mods in the works.

YES!!! Thank you for this.
Also I bought Seiko OEM spring bars and they would not seat.
Yup. I know ;)
Very cool! Beautiful watch, too. And my Islander arrives tomorrow! 😃
Great!
Seiko made some....er....perplexing choices in the design of the new 5 series.
4:10 should be a meme in the watch community.

Just found this video. So the 5KX(SRPD) can take a caseback from the SKX model?
Hey Mark!
Can i use the stock 5kx case back gasket and rotating bezel gasket on the skx case?
Marc does a small cheap Seiko 5 movement fit the SKX ?
I want to buy some cheap made in Japan Seiko 5 SNKK and use them to fit SKX007
great video. I was wondering if there was a way to de clutter the dial? i am not of fan of the redesigned 5
Loving your videos! Would skx007 aftermarket parts fit an old 7548-7000? I have an old one I would love to mod
Do the SKX007 bezel inserts fit into the SRPD71 bezel?
Great mod you have done it again, but I need to save up for yellow islander but don’t stop your imagination from running out.
I won't!
Update. The New Miltat Bracelets made for the Seiko 5, Come with thick spring bars.. And these New ones fit perfectly! They aren't easy too fit.. But once installed they are solid 👌
Great mod! Marc do you sell that band for the SRPD series on your website? Thanks
Do you know if the SNZJ21 has parts for modification? I bought Urchin 5 parts thinking the references aligned, but the parts did not. Any ideas?
This was really fascinating Marc !!!
Thank you
I guess this new Seiko 5 Sports lineup is indeed the 007 being reborn with modern movements 🤔
Yup
Is it possible to change the chapter right by removing the crystal? Planning to mod a 5kx bezel insert and add a double dome crystal... wondering if I can swap the chapter ring while I've got the crystal off?
Is the SRPE71 the same? SKX007 parts are useable for mods?
Marc. I saw another video on the same swap, but the crystal gasket was slightly different and when pressure tested, the crystal blew out.
Yes, am aware.
You are playing with the watch but it's a fair play. Please show us with bi colored bezel in it.
And wating for some Islander Seiko monsters!
Thanks!

Marc, great video . What bezel insert would you suggest for a Samurai, I’m not crazy about the factory insert? Do I have to change the bezel ? Thanks
We do not have Samurai inserts or bezels :(

Marc, do you not carry Orient Star anymore? The two listed on the site are out of stock
Do you carry parts to make a green face green bezel Seiko or islander?
you can mod anything nowadays but its a tedious process to choose the right parts and also its depends with country to country
Thanks, Marc. Great modding lesson.
Thank you
I thought the sapphire gasket thickness was different on the SRPD and needs to be changed when you want to use a SKX sapphire? Can you confirmed if you did reuse the original gasket?
It does and hes aware off it!
I bought a SC bracelet for my new Seiko 5. They sold me the bent spring bars. It was a pain to get it in but it DOES fit.
Yup!
Good clip Thank you. So you did not have to "glue" bezel ring or crystal, I believe that was from Squale, to the Seiko housing?
pretty sure it was double sided adhesive already on the insert.
Does the bezel insert fit on the original bezel?
Great video and thank for the bracelet demo
Welcome
Will there be different styles of your 38mm islander watch coming in the near future?
Yes
that domed saphire does not fit that bezel. but, you can make itwork i guess. nice dial i like that dial. I just wish I could find a good seiko dial oem manafacturer.
Just used the SKX007 case for that new model movement. And then dive watch capability will reborn.
