    This is one of those hobbies we’re we have to put ego aside and encourage each other. It’s a productive, expensive, and rare hobby.

      What are the distances of the crane and the bird... by thay we can get an idea of the distance .. also.. if i hook up a dslr and additional zoom in to the moon, shall i expect better shots.. dis u try that

      The crane was about 200 meters away
      And regarding the dslr I’m not quite sure; the dslr in the intro is my friends cam and so far we were out only twice.
      I don’t have one of my own. Don’t feel like getting into the world of professional photography just yet... so unfortunately I can’t give you much insight there...

    Hi, I recently was given a Meade 125ex and appreciated your "how to setup" video. Anyway, just wondering what eyepiece you're using to get Jupiter in view. I'm a rank newbie to astronomy so please forgive me for the ignorance.

      ThunderDog your question comes just in the nick of time. With my Baader Hyperion 13 mm I got the best view of Jupiter YET!! Two nights ago the skies were unusually clear and so I got a wonderful view of the stripes of Jupiter. Even my wife was impressed!!

    Did you catch any galaxy with that ?

    • @agermangineer
      @agermangineer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, several even but those are way too faint in order to photograph them... and you can only see them faintly with your eye. But you can see the sombrero galaxy, Andromeda, Whirlpool... depending on weather and lunar phase... love it!!

      @@agermangineer ah, I have exact same telescope as yours and I have also Meade DSI (the cheaper one) I was never able to see anything :(

    • @agermangineer
      @agermangineer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yah, I would not expect to catch anything on that. Once again: the objects are so faint that it would take a long exposure for an electronic eye to saturate properly...

    Jupiter just a white blob? Did you see any color with the eye?

    • @agermangineer
      @agermangineer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      J S yes but, since the iPhone 6s camera is nowhere near the 11 with its night mode, that was the best turn out. With your bare eye you can see the main cloud belts easily and sort of make out the red dot... but VERY faint. You need a very clear night to actually catch that.

    Hey man, is yours the Meade ETX 125 GoTo telescope as well?
    Mine can barely see venus, I can make out saturns ring if I really focus and Jupiter is so small with its moons barely being visible. How is your image so big? When I zoom, a round planet becomes a doughnot shape until I cant see it.
    Also I see u got a custom eyepiece, or it looks like a baby-telescope plus a camera. Where can I buy that?
    Looking forward to your reply😁

    • @agermangineer

      A doughnut shape...? Honestly, it almost sounds like your scope could use a trip to the body shop... because most of the images you see here were taken with a 32 mm eyepiece.
      A 26 mm piece should give you just about the same. Or is the eyepiece perhaps damaged ..?
      In terms of zooming: all you need is an eyepiece with a wide angle. The cheaper they get, the narrower the view angle is; kinda like a straw in your coke. A tiny straw will make you choke because nothing gets through. However a wide straw will quench your thirst with a big gulp! So maybe investing a few bucks in an eyepiece with a fairly wide angle at approximately 100 bucks should really help to improve things - unless of course your scope has a tilted mirror or something.
      The reason why I’m making such a bad diagnosis is that these telescopes do not enjoy the best reputation in terms of durability. An astronomer who runs a custom shop once told me that the ETXs come in on a regular basis to be adjusted and repaired - mostly after suffering a heavy knock to the tube or something.
      One method of testing this, is by taking out the eyepiece and to look in the hole: if you see the rings of the reflectors all in perfect centered alignment , that’s a good sign. But if they appear off-center you’re in trouble. But this is only a rough guide.
      I didn’t quite understand the last part you wrote... I don’t have a custom eyepiece, just a makeshift iPhone adapter. And I made that myself; however I’m no longer using that because I switched over to a cheap plastic adapter that works much better and is easier to align.
      Hope this helped a bit? Thanx for the interest!! 😀
