      Thanks for the kind words Dan. I was looking at your channel the other day and you have made some amazing progress this year. I think we should do some type of collab vid together in 2020. I think it would be great since your car is a 71 and mine a 72.

    Congrats on the 3000 subs! You really do great detailed videos! I have a question for you, I have a 78 Camaro and the driver's quarter panel was hit. I purchased a new full quarter panel for it and have had it sitting on top of the car for several months. I took it out to start my measurements and it seems the quarter panel is 1/8" shorter that the original. I thought it was because of the damage but that does not seem to be the case. I measured the same points on the passenger side and it is still 1/8" short. When I received it I did verify there was not any damage to the panel due to shipping but that was it. Do you have any suggestions? Will that 1/8" even matter? This will be my first major panel replacement and I am pretty meticulous in my work. Thanks for any suggestions you can send my way, heck even anyone else that has dealt with a situation like this.

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim, 1/8 inch too short may be just enough to cause you an issue, but may not be too bad to repair. I'm guessing this is an aftermarket panel. I know you said that the drivers side was damaged, have you tried measuring the length of the passenger side? If you end up with the same results, I would look to see if it's short on the door jam area or tail pan area. If it is shorter, you will have to extend it or graft the new into the existing panel. If you do extend it, I would recommend test fitting and welding any seams where the quarter could be removed and worked from the back side as well. Same thing if you have to gap the door by making relief cuts in the quarter. I like being able to get to the backside and dress the welds to prevent future rust. The other option is to look for a nos quarter which I have found still available for these cars at a decent price from time to time. Also before you cut the damage quarter off, go ahead and straighten the dent out the best you can. This will pull the inner structure back into it's original state eliminating any stress. Just take your time, taking plenting of measurements and triail fittings, you will get it. I know Barry at Jo Daddys Garage has ran into this issue several times with quarters on Mustangs. He has several vids on his channel where he has solved problems like this. Dont hesitate to reach out once you get started with this with emails/pics. I will be happy to help. Thanks, Russ

      Double R Restorations Russ, yes it is the same on the passengers side, 1/8” short. I am in the middle of my Jeep project and hope to have it finished this spring! The Jeep will be a play toy to run in the woods and trials. My Camaro is still in my mind on all the things that I have to do to it. The body seems to be all out of whack! I plan on stripping it down and take it to a frame shop to verify the frame structure is straight. I will keep you updated on my progress! Thanks for all your detailed instructions! Excited to see more in the future!

      @@jimwhalen6769 Thanks Jim. The frame shop sounds like a great idea. The channel has been slow since the middle of the year. I've had alot going on. I'm into a large remodel job at home and I hope to be back on my Camaro around spring time as well. Thanks for the compliments on the videos.

    Quick question: when you repaired the rear deck lid filler on the Overkill Camaro, I noticed you had removed the hinge pins on the deck lid. How did you get them out without destroying them and how did you get them back in?

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To remove them you will have to remove the torsion springs, after that you will see two metal tabs bent outward on the hinge pins. This keeps them from coming out. I took a pair of lineman pliers and straighten them out. You then should be able to then take a small punch and drive them out. Mine were really worn and rusty. I ended up finding a donor set. Once the hinge pins are finally out and cleaned up, they will install alot easier than they were to take out. I hope it helps.

    • @Roboticgladiator
      @Roboticgladiator 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DoubleRRestorations :: I tried that actually. I found that I was unable to push them out because of the indexing flat on the pin blocking the pin's movement thru the holes. I ended up trashing the pin to remove it. Your pins must have pin installed differently than mine. (1979)
      edit:: I'm going to take back the above. I just tried removing the opposite side by bending the tangs and the pin came out without a lot of fuss. It seems the first pin I tried was distorted from the torque rod working at it severely enough to prevent it from moving in either direction.
