My all-time favorite song to listen to. Vividly remember seeing and hearing it on the Smothers Bros. Show. Drags me through the gamut of emotions. This clip is fantastic!!
Yep... I remember that Smothers Brothers airing very well. A one second video montage of classical works of art accompanied the instrumentals. Made an impression in me that's lasted over 50 years!
I picture myself dancing to Classical Gas and on the picture screen is life as it began w/God creating the beauty of creation, the birds, animals, fish in the waters and Adam and Eve and then the Fall. The Good News is that God sent his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have ever lasting life: John 3:16.
And today, June 27, 2023, I heard Classical Gas in Marcin's version, in a TH-cam short. I had to dive on the net and I got here and found that I knew this from my youth, but not the artist. Life has many turns. Best regards from Chile ☺️💖🇨🇱
I was 16 that summer of ‘68, and his recording was played frequently on the radio, and I bought the 45. Loved it. John Doan is a great guitarist and teacher. I contacted him in 6/1983 about lessons at Willamette, but was referred to another very good teacher, Walt Lawry of Salem. 8:32
It was this song "Classical Gas" that forced me to become a guitar player...I had to learn that song. Now, I'm a songwriter and a member of ASCAP, also, that song also introduced me to one of my favorite radio programs of all times; "Coast to Coast with Art Bell". Thank you Mr Williams for writing one of the greatest songs ever written
A friend in our neighborhood that played a classical guitar was pretty good picker 4 years older than me. Influenced me. In playing 1969’ into early 70s. Mason Williams was his cousin
like the close ups of Mason playing...so I'm inspired to finish learning it...I learned the first few bars many years ago and then got side tracked....I'm going to leave out the horn part🤪
I would just add that if you like this song, you would no doubt enjoy the version Glen Campbell does live while backed by an orchestra. And as for me, I really favour the guitar tones from Ovation CE guitars that Glen favoured later in his career.
The worst part of being famous for one great song is that you have better songs inside. Your skill is more advanced 20 - 30 year after that song that catched on. Time is a bitch thow. He made gazillion dollars of this song but i reccon its an anchor hanging on his neck. Then you get old, its not working anymore and your stuck with the old stuff. Still making gazillions thow. Yeah i envy him.
In 100 years people will still be playing and loving Classical Gas.
This man is a genius, I am so glad I was a young person when this man recorded this song.
I was a freshman in high school. Loved it the very first time I heard it on AM radio!
Thomas Edison was a genius; Mason is a good songwriter.
Me too!!
Classical Gas...AWESOME guitar...NEVER gets old!
Mason is a fellow Oregonian. He lives not far from my home. Incredible talent and he is dearly loved up here in the PNW.🪽
How lucky you are! I’m in Washington State. Where in Oregon?
My all-time favorite song to listen to. Vividly remember seeing and hearing it on the Smothers Bros. Show. Drags me through the gamut of emotions. This clip is fantastic!!

Loved the duo!
Great entertainers and we hear Classical Gas after all these years. Can’t ask for more.
Amazing how his playing takes me right back to the first day it was on the radio.

What a cool guy too.awesome
Became my favorite song the first I saw him play it on the Smothers Brothers show (on which he was the head comedy writer). Still love it.

This song is from 1968. It's been 56 years. One of my favorite songs from the 1960s. From 1968.
Love it!! I want to hear the rest!! Love the mouth trumpet.
My god is Mason Williams is the very best!
The man can be on his head playing his wonderful song, and still be great!! ❤❤❤❤❤

Best musician and creative genius ever!

I love this song Classical Gas with one of my idols, the great Glen Campbell..
Some music is timeless.
Mason Williams was a comedy writer for the Smothers Brothers. He had a pretty good side gig composing this piece of great music.
I hope they recorded an album together, this is my favourite version I have heard.
So beautiful I started crying
I have the 45 record...its such a great song... classical gas
Thanks y'all, that is awsome
Maestro ❤❤❤
Mason Williams went on to be the head writer of SNL!
A friend in our neighborhood that played a classical guitar was pretty good picker 4 years older than me. Influenced me. In playing 1969’ into early 70s. Mason Williams was his cousin
My favorite ❤
One hit wonder.... But damn what a hit....
I alone have played Classical Gas 6 Million times. Thank you Bill McCune
Best version of this, for me, by Mason is when he recorded it 100% solo with no other instruments.
Legend
Very nice to see! 👍🏻
got to know Mason over the years he was my mentor and still is
Awesome 😊
like the close ups of Mason playing...so I'm inspired to finish learning it...I learned the first few bars many years ago and then got side tracked....I'm going to leave out the horn part🤪
The harp/guitar could be an acoustic version of junior brown's electrical!
the great Mason Wiliam's
excellent
GREAT!!!!!
Love the gas!!!
Its gorgeous, but the "B" side, Long Time Blues, is also good! 😊
I would just add that if you like this song, you would no doubt enjoy the version Glen Campbell does live while backed by an orchestra. And as for me, I really favour the guitar tones from Ovation CE guitars that Glen favoured later in his career.
How about the Prince’s Panties. Great song
I loved hearing Classical Gas on Frazier.
Is it just me, or is the harp guitar terrifying looking?
Just you
Mason has aged well....
Is that a Hauser that Mason plays?
...... almost 60 years ago 🎵🎤🎶
😆 love the movie mouth trumpet!
😊
WELL I GUESS IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE GAS IT MIGHT AS WELL BE CLASSICAL. 😂😂😂
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Saw him with Ian and sylvia in a little coffee house in tustin. He played moose goosers
Cool
"I get to blow my own horn now..."!
Listen to glen Campbell’s version, it’s amazing!!
Let's make it all about the two women
The women interrupting them for the sake of hearing their own voices.
WTAE News Channel 4 Pittsburgh used it as their news theme.
Mason did some other fun songs too. 🙂
How about them lunch toters?!
OMG - If ANYone "redefined" the guitar - that would have been Django Reinhardt and/or Julian Bream - who I saw in concert in the late 1960s.
This was the opening to Big Time Wrestling the predecessor to WWE.
Except for these two dopey women I really enjoyed
the upload . Thank you.
like harp guitar - never heard or seen anything like it
I’m a DeadHead….me and Jerry loved this set🤡
First major song I learned.

These girls, not women stayed at the "bakery" chewing a pull apart!
Too bad this song will be banned in California and the EU after 2035. Interesting to hear the story about the original title.
What?
@@NothingHumanisAlientoMeC'mon, Man. Classical Gas(oline)!
😂😂😂😂
If you're going to be a one hit wonder, be a big one.
Great rendition but nothing as amazing as the Glen Campbell version !
