A delightful podcast. I didn’t realize till 3/4 through that the fluffy white garment or shawl behind you was a DOG! Lol! I am inspired by all the amazing creative knitters who blog- as a 71 user old person, who has been knitting FOREVER, I have not been very venturesome. I have made about 1500 of my trademark baby hoodie over the past 40 some years, sweaters, hats and mitts for my kids and grandkids, the very occasional baby blanket (take too long and are too boring for me). Since COVID I have learned to make 🧦 and they are getting better all the time and I knit myself a sweater for the first time I was 17 (the LoveNote) and now have knit one for my sister and a cardigan for me. So I would say that sweaters are what is inspiring me now- oh, and Newfoundland colourwork mitts. My daughter and husband and granddaughter want me to make them traditional colourwork sweaters for their planned trip to Scandinavian countries in three years- problem being, only my son-in-law can tolerate Lopi yarn. My question is how much softer is Nutiden, as I would like to use unspun or woolen spun yarn for the warmth and lightness of the fabric? I think I would like to join your knit along, but I think I will use the motif to make one of my hoodies and see whether I will then make a sweater. Welcome to blogging and can’t wait to see where the episodes deform 1 up will go. Loretta from Knit my Way Home recommended your podcast and I am glad she did!
Jennifer!! We're so glad to have you with us and so happy that you're enjoying the podcast! Haha yes, I didn't actually realize my dog was sitting beside me while we were filming because honestly he's my little shadow and is just ALWAYS there. But next time I'll have to introduce him (his name is Frisco and he's a 12 year old chihuahua terrier)! And we CANNOT wait to see this trademark baby hoodie!! You are such a prolific knitter!! In terms of Nutiden, I haven't used plotulopi but I have heard again and again that Nutiden is way softer. I myself don't love scratchy wool and I wear Nutiden next to skin all the time. On occasion there will be a scratchier blend but it's very rare. Hope you end up giving it a try and then we would love to hear what you think about whether there are differences! And aren't Loretta and Natalja just wonderful human beings??
Hahaha Ineka! I didn't notice him either and he's my dog! But he's my shadow and always sitting beside me so I guess I just don't even notice! His name is Frisco and he's a 12-year-old Chihuahua-Terrier. He's an absolute dreamboat and I'll have to introduce him properly next time!!
Just started following you and I love how the yin/yang of both of you work. This dumb American has never even heard of a Yarn plate 😗 but wow. They are amazingly beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing these lovely yarns with us.
Just watching this at the end of November. I really enjoyed it. I was coming up with my want to learn list for 2023 and colourwork will be my focus. I’ve been reading and watching lots of tutorials on TH-cam and have my yarn wound and ready to go (as soon as I finish all my Christmas knitting). I am looking to give unspun a try now too. May be for the second colourwork sweater I have planned. Thank you for conversation. It was fun. Now I’m going to watch .75 😂
Oh my goodness, how exciting Katherine! So many possibilities ahead of you with your colourwork plans! And also hats off to you for knitting for others before launching into your own projects! Maybe someday I'll be as generous as that! haha
I’ve never seen you before and thought the soft green and grey colourwork was your natural colour home. You looked very beautiful and harmonious in it. Bringing out a vibe of a gentle, playful Irish lass, to me. When I saw you in the strong colours I found it very jarring! I also thought the green and grey top did not suit Jackie nearly as well, though she looked amazing in everything else she wore! However - once Jackie put on that Woolfolk design, which was incredible on her, your colourful yoke sweater suddenly looked a lot more right on you. You both told a harmonious colour story. And at the beginning, she in her natural colours yoke and you in the green and grey colourwork, were also perfectly gorgeous in tandem and told a unified colour/fibre tale. It is very interesting seeing how people perceive what suits them, as I have similar strict limits for myself as Carmen does. My safe colour is red - always get compliments in it & feel I look my best - and I have bought a lot of red yarn, but I’m in a phase where I don’t feel like knitting it or wearing it. I’m drawn to colours that don’t flatter me. Hmmm maybe I should go with that a little more 🤔
Omg, what a fascinating, thoughtful, and thought-inducing comment and I’m sorry I’m just getting to it now!! That is definitely something we didn’t consider: what our colours look like ON us when we’re in the midst of OTHER colours on OTHER people! Haha so clearly, whenever I go out and want to look my best, I need to make sure that the people I’m sitting next too are wearing colours that fit the colour story I’m trying to write. 🤯🤯🤯 Really, I am absolutely enlivened by this idea! Thank you!!! Also, my mother is half Irish and she has always said that my colouring came from my Irish side so you saying I looked like a gentle, playful Irish lass definitely made me smile! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!!!
Also, I think that if we’re definitely not feeling a colour, then we shouldn’t wear it or knit with it, regardless of whether it’s in our preferred palette or not! Life is way too short!!!
Omg! Another local knitter! Once we get the KAL up and running, we are thinking of starting up some local knit nights for anyone close by. Maybe once a month or something? I'll let you know when we get that arranged and hopefully you'll come join!! And also, thank you so much for your beautiful and encouraging words about the podcast!!!
Yes to the taking a photo of your potential yarn and filtering it to black and white. I recently started doing that after knitting, frogging and re-knitting 4 times the yoke of a Jennifer Steingass sweater. Also, I am totally inspired to knit some sweaters with my plutolopi stash single strand. And has renewed my interest in buying all the heathered plutlopi when I'm next lucky enough to be in Iceland.
Wow Celeste!! That is dedication that you would frog a sweater FOUR times! Your persistence is so inspiring (haha especially to me (Carmen))! And so glad that we've been able to inspire you to do more knitting with unspun! Can't wait to see what you make!
Love your podcast 0.5! I'm so excited about the KAL and leaning more about Nutiden. I made my first unspun sweater this past year with Plutolopi single strand - the Rusty Cardigan - I ended up having to rework the pattern for my gauge. It was a challenge because I had to be mindful of where the motif fell on either side of the cardigan button band. So much fun... and it worked in the end :) For the Inspired by Ellen KAL, I am gravitating toward cool neutral colors - lower contrast. Thanks for sharing. Nutiden has been on my list but out of reach. To be honest, the limited release is a bit intimidating and becoming a patron in order to have access would be a larger financial commitment that's tough to justify with other unspun yarns out there. I'm really looking forward to learning more about Nutiden as your podcasts unfold.
Hi Julie! Thank you so much for the kind words about the podcast and so glad you're diving into the world of unspun! It definitely gets easier and easier as you work with it so excited to hear if you continue! And we're so glad you're joining us in the KAL and a cool, neutral, low contrast piece would definitely be Jackie's jam! I mean, I would love it too, I just always get distracted by bright colours in the end! And we totally hear you when it comes to Nutiden but did want to say that it really isn't necessary to be a patron in order to get the wool as there are always public shop updates and also they have been able to make more quantities than they have in the past. So might be worth a glance at the next public update, which I think will likely be in September. It moves quickly though so the only thing is, it's important to be there right when the update begins!
I just found your podcast today...August 29...love it...love the fact that you're Canada....I live in Alberta.....can't wait yo watch uour next 2 pods....look forward to seeing you both on Pod # 3
Nice to meet other knitters from Mississauga! Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one! I’ve never knit with Nutiden so thanks for the introduction. I may have to join the KAL.
Oh amazing!!! So nice to have another local knitter!! I'm thinking we may need a monthly knit night or something!! And we hope you join in on the KAL; would love to see what you end up making!!
Congratulations on your first steps towards a full-fledged podcast and KAL. The two of you had me hooked on your podcast when I heard one of your goals was to explain, enlighten and help us less-experience knitters on how to deal with an imperfect knitting gauge yet still getting perfectly fitting garments, or in other words explain and demonstrate knitting math. Please, please! Loved your color work swatch for the KAL, but I would need some guidance with applying it to a cowl or hat. Good luck and I look forward to episode one.
Aw thank you Judith! Haha and it took us three episodes but we finally JUST made it to an official 1.0 episode! Haha and hopefully we can help with the knitting gauge problem (or Jackie at least can)! And I can help with showing that even when things aren't perfect, they still can turn out wonderful!
You two are fun together, love your combined energy. Your different approaches to knitting projects is a nice take for a podcast/vlog. I'm also a fan of Nutiden, acquired collections over the last year. Carmen's combination of Ljus and Harden is genius, I may steal that idea. With experience and increased comfort knitting with Nutiden yarn, I'm exploring one strand vs two strands for projects. Typically I use double strands for each color on mitts, cowls, hats for the extra warmth. Using one strand of each color for color work is an idea I've been wanting to try out on a sweater. So interesting to see that you've explored this with your shawls and sweaters. All are so lovely! Looking forward to seeing more of you two and your creativity.
Oh thank you so much for your beautiful comment Julie! And please "steal" any colour combos that strike you! Also so excited for you to give single stranded Nutiden a try. The fabric it creates is unlike anything else! I (Carmen) just made a tee in single stranded Nutiden that was 101g!!! Light as air!! So looking forward to seeing what you end up making!
Hi ladies! I found your podcast through CadyJax Knits, and my eyes opened WIDE when you mentioned you're both in around Mississauga area? I'm in North Oakville, it's so amazing to stumble upon a knitting podcast channel that's local!!! 😍
Love your podcast. CadyJax referenced you in their bingo ball, so I looked you up and watched this episode. Your yarn and knitting is beautiful and you two are so much fun!
Oh Lisa, I'm so glad! Thank you for taking the time to look us up and then to comment!! We're so happy to have you as part of our little community! And Caitlin and Jackie are the best! They are so incredibly supportive of other podcasters. I don't know if we would have actually gotten started in the first place if it had not been for their amazing encouragement!
Ladies I so enjoyed your podcast. I have a bit of a Nutiden stash but haven’t knit anything other than a small swatch. You’ve both inspired me to join the KAL. I do know that I need a pattern laid out for me. I’m not good winging it on my own.
Oh we're too glad you enjoyed it Sherry! Thank you for letting us know; it's so encouraging for us! And I totally understand the hesitation to go "off-piste" and thank goodness there is an English option! I'm giving it a go though to see what I can come up with and if it works, I'll share what I did and maybe that will be enough to give another option. We'll see!!
Thank you for your podcast. Great to see another Canadian podcast in knitting. What inspires me is that I actually can knit and create something. Each time I do something new and challenging it makes me feel so happy and excited for my next project. Seriously took up knitting a year and a half ago. Thanks again for your podcast
I really enjoyed Your podcast🤗 I am a Nutiden fan, too. Knitting one strand with one strand kid Silk mohair creates a very light fabric. I loved seeing all your colour combination suggestions, very inspiring 👍🏻
Oh we're so glad that we inspired you, Helle, and so lovely to meet another Nutiden lover! And I agree that Nutiden and mohair are a dream together! So light but so warm!!
Hey Nutiden Fans! I just ordered my first batch. Can I ask- do you just knit from the plate or do you wind into a center pull ball? And other pointers? I am so excited for it to arrive
Am so glad I stumbled across your podcast! I also have a decent nutiden stash and after watching your episode am very motivated to dive into it and knit all the nutiden things!
Love the new podcast 😊 new to Nutiden and hoping to get my hands on some to join the KAL! I’m really in to rose gold, purple, and pink right now and love knitting just about anything. Am looking forward to more episodes! I think I may have more to watch already? I’m late to the party 🤣
We're so happy to have you with us and thank you for your lovely words!! Also, you can join the KAL with any yarn you want, doesn't have to be Nutiden! Although we hope you do end up trying it, in case it brings you the absolute joy that it does us! Haha and yes, there's one more episode so far and we should have another in about a week and a half. I just have to get back to Canada to film it!
Omg! You guys are so fun! You have to do this every week! And oh boy, the shawls are so gorgeous-but darn it, I can't be falling for another yarn, I've got too much all ready! They have such beautiful colors, aaaaah! 😁
Oh Sue! I (Carmen) love your enthusiasm so much!! You are definitely our kind of person! Haha and I feel you on not wanting to add another wool to the list but honestly, if I could only have one wool in the world, it would be Nutiden!!! I have a feeling it will be making its way into your orbit soon. And I wish we could post every week! Honestly, while I'm loving my British adventure, I can't wait to get home to do the next podcast!
Your podcast is amazing, Jackie and Carmen! So casual and yet so inspiring and informative. Love the informal way you are doing the podcast and the energy you are radiating is just superb!! Great job!
Watching you two was a ton of fun! Your knitting is exquisite!!! I'm so very happy that you've decided to embark on this TH-cam adventure. And I'm very tempted to join in on the KAL fun. 🥰 edited to add: I'm inspired by the natural world, and by makers that also have Nature as a muse
Nicole!!! @thegentleknitterpodcast I’m (Jackie) late to the game with comments and wanted to say that you, your podcast and your colour sense are a HUGE inspiration to me. Thank you for your kind words and so delighted you are here with us on this adventure. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for starting this podcast and KAL! I have a small stash of Nutiden that I haven’t made anything with yet because I don’t know what to knit! I love it so much and want to make something special! But I’ve not worked with unsound yarn before and am afraid to “mess up”. You have inspired me to jump in and start trying!
Oh we're so happy we inspired you and understand completely the feeling of Nutiden being precious! But once you start, I think you'll find that you can't stop! haha! Plus, at least in our opinion, the wool tells us what it wants to be, so whatever you end up knitting will be exactly what was supposed to be knit!! Have you cast anything on yet?
Such a fun intro to the two of you and the KAL. Thank you for sharing your friendship and knitting processes with us! I also really love Nutiden yarns and am in the middle of a test knit doing single strand colorwork with it - a much slower process using unspun yarn at a fine gauge, but one that I am enjoying. As far as inspiration goes - I have been surprised to find that in the past year or so, I am drawn to many natural/muted pinks and purples, after having avoided those colors since I was a preschooler (choosing instead to go with natural browns/greens/golds/reds.) I am not sure what has changed in my life to cause this but I am making my peace with it and beginning to knit and wear these new-to-me colors. :)
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment Bekah and we're so glad you enjoyed it and are here with us! And isn't that wild how what we are drawn to can change...even seemingly against our will sometimes! Sometimes a colour just insists that we knit it (and in my experience, the colour is always right)! And can't wait to see your test knit! Agreed that single strand Nutiden colour work isn't the easiest process but man is it worth it in the end!! I (Carmen) think I've decided that I'll go single stranded for the KAL. Even if I have to do math!!!
I’m new to Nutiden and I got so much inspiration from your FOs. How much do you typically order for your stash? Nice start to your podcast journey! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Jorie and we're so happy we inspired you!! Honestly both of our stashes are pretty much completely out of control and yet we still order a minimum of 1600g each update!! I will say though that neither of us have ever regretted a Nutiden purchase!!
What a great podcast. Love your stories and of course your projects. I get inspired by watching podcasts and seeing the possibilities. I have been wanting to try Nutiden yarn, so your KAL is the perfect reason to jump right in!
Thank you so much Katina and we're so happy to have you with us! And yaaaayyy that you're going to try Nutiden! As you can see, we love it so much and just want to spread the joy through the world!! Can't wait to see what you end up making!
Great first podcast! you both are inspiring and fun. I have wanted to try Nutiden for awhile and live in northern Canada so it is a perfect wool for most of the year!
Hi Deidre! We are so excited that you are inspired to try Nutiden!! It truly is the perfect wool for Northern Canada (and really - anywhere, since you can decide exactly how you want to to knit it to match the fabric you want). Looking forward to hearing your experience of this yarn we love so much
Love love your podcast! Love the yarn, I’ve never seen this yarn before, looks lovely! On another note we are neighbours…Burlington resident!! Looking forward to watching your videos😁!
What???? Another Burlingtonian???? That is so fun!! And thank you so much for the kind words; it makes us so happy to hear that others are enjoying our ramblings!!
What a fun podcast! I love that you called it episode 0.5 haha. Can't wait to see more! I also have some nutiden in my stash, so maybe this KAL will help me to finally use it? :)
Haha thank you! We actually just recorded our next episode and got all up in the air about whether it was episode 0.75 or actually episode 1 finally! We're quite the pair! And so excited that you might give your Nutiden a try!! Please let us know how it goes!!
How wonderful to meet you ladies! I love your energy, creative musings and how different you each are! I adore color work and I am recently drawn using all shades of a color and playing with that- like all shades of green or blue! Looking forward to podcast #1 ❤️
Hi Jacqueline! You are inspiring me (Jackie) too! Love the idea of a tonal colorwork (and those colours) and hope you will share what you put together.
Aw thank you so much Ellen!!!! That means so much to us that you love the podcast and appreciate our differences! We're so glad to have you part of the community!
Lovely to have found you two!! Now I want to knit all the things in Nutiden!! Love your gorgeous, gorgeous projects - and your plans for the podcast and kal. So much fun!
Oh yay!! So glad you're thinking of exploring Nutiden! It is truly unlike any other wool I've ever worked with. Just absolutely delightful! And thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words!!
I love your podcast! This yarn is so intriguing. Right now I’ve been most inspired by travel memories and using color pallets of favorite places for colorwork sweaters.
Oh what a fabulous idea to use colour pallets of places and then knitting them into a sweater!!! I had never thought of that but I'm in England right now and will think on whether I can do that here! And thank you for your lovely encouragement about the podcast! We had so much fun and can't wait to make another!
Lovely episode and I can’t wait to join you for knitting 🌟 Nutiden is so versatile, it’s like a chameleon, so, whatever you make it will come out gorgeous
Congratulations! What a lovely podcast to brighten my morning, it felt like sitting down with good friends over our squishy wool. I wasn’t initially planning to, but now I’m so so tempted to join your KAL, and look forward to the inspired projects. I’m not sure if I’ll be on time lol, but I will eventually get there, and I think I’ll be making a cardigan with the motif at the bottom near the hem. 😁 Now just to decide colours… 🤣
Kelly!!! This brightened my (carmen's) morning reading this! We're so glad that you felt like we were just chatting away with you! It's so nice to have friends who share love of the same things! And yay that you're tempted to join the KAL and I love your idea about the cardigan with the motif at the bottom!!! And any timing works with us really. Even if you don't do it during the actual KAL, we would always love to see your FO whenever you finish it! Haha and deciding colours is the most fun part imho! I would say pull out some colours that speak to you and put them on the floor in a pile. Then see which ones say "Pick me, pick me!!!"
What a fun and inspiring new podcast. Love seeing your knits and wips. The interaction between the two of you is cute and fun! I am quite new to Nutiden and am just in love with most everything about it. Currently working on the Boquera Basket as I thought a small project would be a good way to get the feel for working with an unspun yarn. What inspires me…? Color, images, nature, other’s knits. Looking forward to more content.
Welcome Gail! And so glad you liked the podcast! We had so much fun making it and so glad that came through! And yay that you're getting into Nutiden and I think the Bouqueria basket is the PERFECT way to start! Love hearing what inspires you too. I (Carmen) feel exactly the same way! So happy to have you with us!
Congratulations on your first podcast 0.5 it was so wonderful. I’m such a TH-cam consumer, I just love to knit and watch. Thanks for the Ciorcal cardigan inspiration from the bingo event earlier this year, such a great knit. Can’t wait for more, you two were so enjoyable to watch, thanks for sharing 💃🥰
Thank you so much for your encouraging and kind words and we're so glad you enjoyed it! We love knitting podcasts too and love doing the same (knitting while we watch). And we're so excited for more too!
I enjoyed your podcast so much! I had felt intimidated by the idea of trying to adapt this sweater pattern without it being clearly laid out, but I'm inspired by your spirit, your energy, and your color pairings to do some swatching of my own. Thank you!
Yay Emily!! I (Carmen) am actually knitting a sleeve right now and will see if I can manage to make a bottom up sweater on my own! I can't wait to see what you come up with too!! It's actually really exciting!
So happy I came across your podcast after it was mentioned by CadyJaxKnits! Love your shared passion for knitting!! So fun! Even though I am an experienced knitter, I have never heard of Nutiden yarn. It looks lovely and I need to learn more … Oh,by the way, I am also from Mississauga and can’t wait for your next podcast!
Omg, another local knitter! We're seriously going to have to get some kind of knitting group set up!! And this way you could actually feel Nutiden in your hands and give it a whirl! And thank you for the kind words about the podcast and we're so happy you're enjoying it!!
I love your new podcast and can't wait for tips on how to knit with this lovely yarn. I knit a sweater with it which I love to wear but it was really challenging to knit and my gauge became really loose. Looking forward to more episodes.
Oh that's so exciting that you've already gotten your feet wet with knitting with Nutiden!! We are planning to talk a bunch more about knitting with it and tips we have to make it easier. Also, there is this special thing that happens over time where it's like the wool learns your hands and your hands learn the wool and suddenly everything just feels so easy. It's magical! Can't wait to hear more about your Nutiden journey!
What lovely, warm energy you both have! This episode was such a treat, thank you. Gorgeous projects, beautiful yarns. Looking forward to seeing you again! ❤️
Oh Kristen! Thank you so much for your lovely and encouraging comment! That brought a smile to my (Carmen) face! And we're so happy you've joined our little community!!
Thank you so much for this episode. I love your knits. You love the same patterns I do. I am also obsessed with nutiden and have built a tidy stash. I feel like the yarn is so special that I only want to use it for exactly the right pattern. I’m currently working on The Hood in nutiden Liv. Single strand held with mohair. Can’t wait for your future episodes.
Aw thank you for your beautiful words, Eliana, and we understand completely about how precious Nutiden feels! It really is so incredible. And love that we have similar tastes in patterns! I (Carmen) have been meaning to knit The Hood for a long time and doing it in Liv would be breathtaking. Liv is so alive with all its flickering colours that I think it will just shine in stockinette, so The Hood would be a perfect pattern for that! Can't wait to see how it turns out!!
Never too many podcasts. Yours is really timely, as I wait for my first Nutiden order to arrive. Im in Melbourne Australia and have just finished my first Felix sweater in Plutolopi held single with a strand of mohair and absolutely loved it. I didn’t have any trouble with breakage a couple of times but easy to fix as you said. Anyway I think you are off to a great start. You had some awesome finished objects absolutely in love with that blue and gold shawl that was amazing. Love your KAL Im not so keen on knitting a pattern, it is a little bit geometric for me but I will definitely keep watching to see what you do and I will definitely be knitting in unspun also. Well done loved every bit of your chatter can’t wait for the next one.
Hi Michelle! Thank you for your kind words and welcome to the Unspun + Nutiden world! We are so excited to have you here and would love to have you participate in the KAL by watching along and getting inspired to whatever knit what you love! 🧡
Haha yes, Jackie has amazing HP knits!! And we're podcasting right after I get back to Canada so hopefully should have something to post near the end of August!!
Just watched your 0.5 and loved the energy between you two. So different and yet the knitting connection is strong. I’m totally inspired to work with nutiden. It’s been many years since I knitted with Icelandic wool. I’m wool sensitive but you’ve inspired me to try again
Hi Sandy and welcome! We’re excited that you’re inspired to revisit some Unspun yarn and can attest to the fact that Nutiden feels very very different (read: softer) from Plotulopi or Lettlopi and I think there are others too. Can’t wait to hear what you discover and please report back on what you find that suits you 💖
Yé ! A Canadian podcast :) (I live in Quebec). Your podcast looks like it will be lots of fun, can't wait to see episode 1 :) You also got me inspired to try out a new colorwork pattern.
Loooved your episode 0.5 : ) I've been a Nutiden addict since day 1. My color comfort zone is low contrast neutrals as well as bold combinations so I feel totally connected to both of you ♥ I will definitely join this knit a long in September. Already looking forward to the next episode- Good job you two : )
I love that you're a perfect combo of the two of us!! And thank you so much for your kind words and we're so happy to have you with us and planning on joining the KAL! We're so excited about how this is all developing!!
What an absolutely delightful pod! New fan here for sure! I’d also love to join the KAL, I have some Nutiden stash and love working with it, but have only held double. A bit nervous to try it single strand, but here for the journey! See you again soon! 🤗
Thank you so much and we're so glad you enjoyed it! And I (Carmen) was so intimidated by single strand Nutiden the first time too but it becomes easier and easier quite quickly! And the fabric makes it so worth it!! So happy to have you join us for the KAL!
Oh Sarah we're so glad to spark your interest and can't wait to hear what you think of it when you try it! Next episode we're planning to talk about our first experiences using Nutiden and hopefully provide some tips to make other people's experiences go great!
Great podcast, ladies! I just bought my first Nutiden, and this was really informative. I’m also from Toronto, but now living in Spain. Can’t wait for your next episode.
I was so excited to find you through CadyJax! Don't you just love this community? I'm new to Nutiden and would love to get involved with the KAL! I've just discovered Lily on Untangled and she inspired me as well. I am dying to make "Fields of Gold". Bella is so talented and I love her pattern. You go girls! I love having another podcast to watch!
Yay Susan!!! We're so glad to have you with us and you couldn't have talked about better watching company in terms of Cady Jax and Lily!!! We love both of those podcasts too! Oh and my Fields of Gold sweater is one of my absolute favourites ever, both in terms of the knitting process and the finished product! I HIGHLY recommend it!! And cannot wait to see what you end up making in the KAL!!!
0.5 is the new black! A question about the yarn you are talking about: you said it tears easily, how does it behave when it needs to be unraveled? Also, what is the name of your sleepy friend?
Hahahaha "0.5 is the new black!" Love that so much!! And great question about unraveling. To be honest, it's not fun!! But as long as you're pretty gentle, it can be done. And unraveling double stranded is definitely easier than single! Haha and thank you for asking about my dog! I actually hadn't even noticed him sitting there when we were filming or I would have introduced him! His name is Frisco and he's a 12 year old chihuahua-terrier! Just a little dreamboat!!
This was such a fun and inspiring podcast!! I’m so happy to see fellow Nutiden yarn lovers. All your projects are amazing. ❤️ I would love to have a friend nearby to geek over Nutiden with like you have. That also inspired me to go look.
Thanks so much!!! We met through this online knitting community and hope that this podcast and KAL will allow others to connect too - whether it’s online or in person. So - let your search begin! 💖
Thank you so much for your comment Vicki and it warms our hearts to hear that you enjoyed our fun musings and ramblings! We are so excited to film another once I (carmen) am back from England in August!!
You are both delightful company! I know nothing about unspun wool although I have an Icelandic sweater so maybe that is-will need to look more carefully at it. In answer to your question, I’m more of a high contrast person. I love color!!
Deb! We're kindred spirits as my last name is also Weiss! And thank you so much for the kind and encouraging words! So happy to have you with us and excited that we might have inspired you to try unspun wool!
Found you through watching another podcast….love your different approaches to color choices. All your finished objects are gorgeous! I would never have thought of shawl knitting with unspun. I would love to try Nutiden, don’t have access to it. My LYS started carrying Manchelopi which is unspun and I’m trying to decide what to knit with it, my swatch is awesome! Look forward to more.
OOOH! So excited you've started down the unspun path!! Can't wait to hear more about your experience with it! And neither of us have tried Manchelopi so would love to know what you think! Also, just a heads up with there is a Nutiden shop update on August 14th at 7am CEST and they ship everywhere in the world. Just in case you wanted to try it too!
I'm a Nutiden fanatic since about this time last year. I think I'm going with Ljus as my background color and Ro as the foreground color. I had wanted to make a weatherman sweater with the Ro but I just couldn't get enough and I'm sure there will be another good dark color offered in the future. I think Ro is meant for this sweater now! Now I just have to swatch and decide if I want to hold it single or double. Leaning toward double. I join KALs but rarely finish on time but I do enjoy the inspiration and push to cast on!
Yay Crystal! Always love to connect with another Nutiden aficionado!!! And Ljus and Ro will be incredible together!!! And isn't it amazing how the Nutiden colour ways often tell us what they want to be? We might think we will knit them into something else but then suddenly realize, "oh, no, you want to be THIS". I (Carmen) always try to listen when they talk!
Thank you for a lovely podcast! All knits you showed are absolutely gorgeous. I love how you showed pieces knitted in one strand of nutiden as well. I feel like everyone knits it up in two strands or with mohair but I love the fabrit that is produced when holding one strand of nutiden single. The section where you showed different color combinations was so inspiring as well. Seeing the swatches was very helpful. I'm really feeling Ljus and Snö as well as kvarts and lola together! I'd love to see more of your old finished projects in the future, or perhaps even hear you talk a little bit about your stash! Greetings from Vera in Sweden
Vera! Thank you so much for taking the time to post your beautiful words! We're so glad you enjoyed the podcast and love that you're another single-strand Nutiden lover! And thank you for the suggestion for showing more knits and stash! We definitely plan to do that more in future podcasts, showing what we're currently working on but also going back to older projects as well to give a sense of how things wear over time! So glad to have you with us!
Enjoyed this very much, I only have one problem. That is trying to find the yarn you used for the Badger sweater. You posted that it was Ra/Ragad used double and I was unable to find a yarn by that name. Thank you, Roberta
Hi Roberta! So glad you enjoyed the episode! And in terms of Ra/Ragad, unfortunately Nutiden is made in single batches and once it's sold out it's never made again! BUT you can often find some in people's stashes on Ravelry and they might have more than they need and would be willing to sell it? There are also new releases 8 times a year, so that's another option. Won't be exactly the same colours as Jackie used, but in my opinion they're all so beautiful that it's impossible to go wrong!
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 Thanks for the quick answer. I did put my name on the list for future Nutiden yarns. You both made some wonderful things.
I have some precious nutiden which I’ve swatches but not knitted with, but I’m the year I’ve had it I’ve looked at it and dreamed about what I could make so many times, that I feel like it’s been worth it already. However I would like to have a garment knitted in it soon 😂
Aw we TOTALLY understand how precious Nutiden can feel and that it's almost like you have to pick the perfect project for it, and then it never actually gets knit (although totally agree that swatching it, looking at it, and dreaming are also all worth it in their own rights!). We really feel though that it will become whatever it's supposed to become. Just trust your instinct and we're sure it will turn out exactly as it's supposed to!
Aw so glad you enjoyed it!! Haha and yes, I (carmen) want to know about the jumpsuit too! I'll ask Jackie and (hopefully) get back to you here (if I don't forget!!)
Just found your podcast and I binge watch them all. So interesting your FO😊. Could you also let us know when you are describing a project if it's a beginner, intermediate projects in your opinion and why. I consider myself a beginner even though i knitted only one raglan sweater. Thank you so much for sharing your passion it brings me joy❤
Hi Angell! Aw thank you so much and we're soooo glad you're enjoying the pod!! And that is a fantastic suggestion to talk about what level each project it! We will definitely try to (remember to) do so!!!
This was so interesting! I have not knit with unspun but you are both inspiring me! Can I ask how it feels next to the skin? I guess I have always been worried it would be a little itchy.
Hi Katie! Oooh so exciting that we've inspired you! I (Carmen) will say that the blends can vary quite a bit but I would estimate that around 90% of them feel lovely against my skin. On occasion there will be some more prickly ones that require a shirt underneath, but it's rare. Haha although the first sweater I ever knit with Nutiden happened to be a super scratchy blend and I remember feeling so upset by it thinking all of Nutiden would be like that. Fortunately that wasn't the case at all!
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 thank you so much! I just put my first order in for Nutigen and it should be arriving soon! Fingers crossed it is next to skin soft. I'm planning to make Samantha Guerin's new shawl that she just released today! I think it will be a good first project for unspun yarn. I look forward to following you KAL! Hope you continue to do KALs with unspun yarn through this platform! I will join the next one! Once I get my feet wet with unspun!
It was so nice to watch your first podcast! I would love to take part in this kal. Although I am not that great doing colourwork, I really want to embrace it and be at least okay at it. One concern I have about the Alvi sweater is getting 24 stitches/4" with a DK weight yarn. Maybe some suggestions for the next episode? Nutiden held single maybe? Also, I'd love to know how to knit this pattern top down, as Jackie will be doing. Now, I must contemplate my Nutiden stash and potential yarn choices. 🥰
Hi Marg! Thanks for tuning in and embracing a new technique. All our gauges will be different (because our hands are unique and so is each plate of wool!) but the 24 st gauge would likely work single stranded. We will keep talking about the technical details in our upcoming podcast episode but we’ll invite you to follow that impulse and swatch in the colours you want and see what the yarn wants to become 🥰
So much fun watching you two!! I’d love to join your knit-a-long in the fall! I have just purchased som Nutiden, and am looking for something to knit! I plan to knit the Purpurea Sweater by Teti Lutsak with some of the Nutiden, but the sweater you have picked is very appealing! Your podcast is a success!!
Thank you Rebecca for such kind words!!! And we're so happy to have you joining us! Also so excited to hear what you think of knitting with Nutiden. Our next podcast will talk a bit about our experiences trying it out for the first time and some tips to make it easier so if you have any struggles, just know we'll have you covered! And that Purpurea Sweater is soooo gorgeous!!! So glad to have you here!
Thank you so much for sharing about knitting with un-spun yarn! I have never considered knitting with un-spun yarn before. Is it similar to single-ply yarn in that it might pill more or not hold up as well over time? All of your shawls and sweaters are gorgeous, and I especially love how light and airy they are!
Oh yay, so glad we inspired you and can't wait to see if you give it a try! That's a great question about pilling. In general I haven't really noticed much pilling. Some of the really really airy blends can sometimes get really furry and fluffy (like a large mohair halo), but not really pill. The only one I can think of that did pill a bit was Brunte (which I used to make the Koyamae pullover by Joanna Ang), but that was a really high lanolin blend so I wonder if that had something to do with it.
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 Thank you for your reply! It is so helpful to hear from others who have experience over time with a yarn and garments made from it. I'm hoping to get some Nutiden soon and join in on the upcoming KAL!
Oh thank you so much Candis! We're so happy you're enjoying it and that we're inspiring you! Nutiden can be bought from Honer Och Eir, and it's released in batches, 8 times a year. The best way to find out when the next release is is to follow Honer och Eir on instagram. You can also go to the website and sign up for their newsletter. I think the next update will likely be in September. And for the KAL, we're so happy to have you join us and no need to sign up! You can knit anything you want with any yarn. The only requirement is that it uses the motif that we showed in some way. We're going to be making another episode next week that should give all the details but the KAL runs from Sept 1-Jan 31.
Really enjoyed watching your first podcast! I’m not sure yet if I will join in unless it’s something relatively easy, maybe some fingerless gloves. However I enjoyed seeing some of your Nutiden projects and stash. I’m knitting garments number 5 and 6, in scogsrå (Arctium pullover) and snö so high contrast colourwork and my Fisherquine jumper is in Väsen 😊
Hi Bern! Oh Skogsrå and Snö would be so gorgeous together and I love that you also have a nice neutral in Väsen!! Both ends of the continuum! And we would love to have you join the KAL in whatever way appeals to you! And if you'd rather knit your own thing and just be part of our community, we love that too!
I enjoyed the show-and-tell very much! I’m new to Nutiden and not sure where to buy it. I would love to make a sweater, though. Is there a difference among Unspun yarns, i.e., Plotulopi and Nutiden?
Hello! Thank you so much for your comment! You can buy Nutiden 8 times a year from Honer Och Eir during their shop updates! The next one will actually be in August and there are some GORGEOUS colourways!!! I (Carmen) can't speak to the differences between Nutiden and Plotulopi but I think Jackie is planning to talk about it. As far as I can tell, I think Nutiden is generally softer. Plus the colour ways are very very different in that Nutiden colour ways are made only once! And they're often composed of many individually dyed fibres all combined into one wool. They really are breathtaking! Plus, there is a huge emphasis on being natural and sustainable in Nutiden. I'm not sure if Istex (the company that makes Plotulopi) has the same principles. I think the prices are pretty equivalent, but Plotulopi can be bought more places and pretty much at any time, whereas Nutiden is actually easy to get but you have to do so within a certain number of hours on the day of each release.
Hahahaha right?? I didn't even notice he was there until later when viewers pointed him out! I at least introduce him in our episode 1 (which was our THIRD episode!!). His name is Frisco and he's a 12 year old Chihuahua Terrier!
Well hello! Here’s another long time Nutiden fan from Germany. I’m so happy to have seen the podcast announcement on Lorettas account. I’m absolutely smitten by your shawls, they are beautiful. In fact, I think I really need a Mare, like, right now! Jackie, did you really use just one plate of each color? I have one plate of Barighet and don’t really know what to do with it. Now I have a lot of ideas, I guess. So count me in for the knit along, but I need to think a bit more about what to make with the pattern… Oh, and I’m usually a low contrast knitter that loves to play with a pinch of high contrast here and there. Does that count? Thanks a lot for this great episode!
Hi Dorit! Thank you so much for your lovely and encouraging post! We're so glad you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed making it! And love that we're kindred spirits in our love for Nutiden! I'll let Jackie confirm but yes I'm pretty sure it was only 200g for the mare! Isn't it breathtaking? I can attest that it feels light as a feather and soooo drapey!!!! Can't wait to see what you end up doing for the KAL!
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 oh, that sounds great, thank you for your kind answer. I’m already searching for color combos in my stash. Nutiden for shawls is a double win: light, but incredibly warm!
Hi Kathleen! Nutiden is made by a Swedish company called Honer Och Eir and they do public releases about 7-8 times per year. Easiest way to know when they are is to follow them on instagram or sign up for their newsletter on their website.
Hi Micki! Oh that's strange that the link didn't work for you. I just tried it again and it worked for me. Maybe if you google Alvi pattern by Filcolana it will come up? I (Carmen) have also decided that I'm going off piste a bit and trying to just create it myself! Haha, if I'm successful, I'll share what I did and maybe that will help. Or if we happen to be the same size, you can just do exactly what I did!
Hi Ingrid! Thanks for being here and watching. It was so much fun to do and these interactions are making it even more fun for us! Nutiden is available for purchase from Honer Och Eir every few months and so long as you know when the shop updates are, you can get your hands on it. Every collection is a bit different: the last one was available to purchase for a whole day before it sold out, other times certain colour ways can sell out within a few hours, so it takes a little planning but is totally worth it! Shop updates are announced on their Instagram @honerocheir and via their newsletter (sign up at www.honerocheir.nu/). We’ll be sure to take some time next episode to share a bit more about the process of getting Nutiden (missed it this time amidst all our excitement!!) so those who are interested can experience this amazing yarn 🥰
Could you explain how you work nutiden single stranded, you seem to be of the few people who manage that quite naturally without baby difficulty and I actually didn’t manage at all. I’d be so great full for tips!
Hi Katrin and Stephanie! Thank you for the suggestion and YES! Next time we will absolutely talk about knitting with Nutiden held single and just knitting with it in general, and tips for making the experience as enjoyable as it should be! I (Carmen) will say that I cried the first time I tried to even cast on with it but the ease quickly comes along and it becomes the only way you want to knit! I would say that at this point I prefer single to double, if you can believe it!
I was wondering the same thing. Is it truly one stranded or one stranded paired with a mohair which you see often and I find that misleading 😊 Hope your next podcast will give me some enlightenment 😜 Loved this one (0.5) episode very much! Keep it up ladies!
And aren't Loretta and Natalja just wonderful human beings??
haha omg, there was a cute, scruffy doggo there the whole time. I didn't notice til the end when he poked up his head. Adorable.
Just started watching (Knit Together with Kim & Jonna reco:-)) I’m hooked. Now I have to binge all the episodes to catch up.
#theuntangledknittingpodcast sent me here and I'm so happy to discover your podcast! love, hugs, prayers.
Aw thank you Barbara! So glad you enjoyed it!!
Just started following you and I love how the yin/yang of both of you work. This dumb American has never even heard of a Yarn plate 😗 but wow. They are amazingly beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing these lovely yarns with us.
Oh it’s so wonderful to have you joining us!! And I had never heard of one before trying nutiden too!!
Really enjoy your podcast. I was sent your way by Lily of the Untangled Knitting podcast 💛
Aw thank you so much Leisa! So glad you liked it! And Lily is wonderful!!
Hi contrast! And that purple and white ohhh it’s soooo dang gorgeous.
Yay!!! Love having another high contrast lover join us!!!
And actually in our newest episode you can see the purple and white (kvarts) actually knit up!!
Life is way too short!!!
congratulation on you amazing podcast, im fellow knitter from Oakville, and just few km from you guys, can't wait to see more of you 😀
Aw thank you Sharon and we're sooooo happy you enjoyed it! So lovely to have another Canadian with us too!!
I’ve never knit with unspun wool, but your video has inspired me to try it!
Oh that makes us so happy!!!! Hope you do and we would love to see what you make!!
Thank you for listing a reference on other unsound yarn and i only knew of 2.
You're very welcome!!!

I really enjoyed Your podcast🤗
I am a Nutiden fan, too.

I see it now - thanks!

It's so nice to meet you. I love the podcast and cant wait to see your next one.
Aw thank you so much! So nice to connect with you!!
Wonderful podcast! Looking forward to your next one and to the KAL! 😃
Aw thanks Monik!!! We're looking forward to the next one too! haha
Omg, you two are so adorable! I love your two different personalities and styles. Love that I found your podcast!
Aw thank you so much Ellen!!!! That means so much to us that you love the podcast and appreciate our differences! We're so glad to have you part of the community!
Have a look at your color wheel and for contrast colors take opposite colors. Eg. Orange with purple or green and red
Thank you! I actually don't even have a colour wheel but I like the idea!
Such a relaxing and inspiring podcast episode, Carmen and Jackie!👏🏻 Can't wait for episode 1.0! 😘
Thanks for watching Joanna! We had so much recording this and hearing from you all that there will certainly be another one soon!
Thanks Anja and excited to knit with you too. Nutiden really does make beautiful things easy.
Now just to decide colours… 🤣
Love your idea and I have never been in a Kal but this has sparked huge interest for me. I can't wait to see this unfold
Thank you
Oh we're so glad to get you inspired and we would love to have you join! There's something so nice about knitting along with others!
Love this! #inspiredbyellenkal
Great first podcast. Totally enjoyed the two of you. Looking forward to your future podcast. The KAL sounds like great fun! See you both soon.
Hi Deborah! Thanks for your kind words and for being here. We’ll see you soon!
Fellow Canadian. I think I've become obsessed with nutiden from just watching your podcast. You guys are great together!
Hi Tracey!! 👋 🇨🇦 Thanks for your kind words! We love the yarn and are so happy that you’re feeling that love too. Welcome to the land to Nutiden :)
5 minutes in and already inspired! So fun!
Oh I'm so glad!!! Thank you for letting us know and so happy to have you with us!
The 2 of you are inspiring me!😍
Yay!!!! That brings us so much joy!!!
You had me at Harry Potter ⚡️
I can’t wait for more episodes! I hope you continue to do them regularly! 🧶
Welcome Sarah and so wonderful to have a fellow Canadian! And we're so glad to have inspired you! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Thank you for an inspiring first episode :)
Thank you for commenting Tanya and so great to have you with us!
Just a few minutes in and love you guys already ❤️
Oh we're so glad Dana!! Thank you so much for joining us and hope you liked it!
Thanks for all this information ~ have knit w/ un-spin wool/yarn. But now I am interested in trying.
Thanks for being here and we are so excited to be a part of your first Nutiden experience!
Brand new to and love everything about Nutiden. Great first episode. Can't wait to see Episode #1 :)
So glad you’re sharing in this Nutiden experience with us and thank you for your kind words. Welcome!!
This was such a fun and inspiring podcast!! I’m so happy to see fellow Nutiden yarn lovers. All your projects are amazing. ❤️
I would love to have a friend nearby to geek over Nutiden with like you have. That also inspired me to go look.
Thanks so much!!! We met through this online knitting community and hope that this podcast and KAL will allow others to connect too - whether it’s online or in person. So - let your search begin! 💖
I enjoyed your podcast so much. I can’t wait to see more. Xoxo
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 thanks for the heads up!! I ordered some and am so excited for it to arrive. Looking forward to your next podcast too.
We love all those combos of Nutiden! Will definitely keep sharing our projects and our stash 🥰 Thanks for tuning in!
How much fun was this podcast! I’m a fan. Jackie - I love your jumpsuit. Can you tell me where you found it?
Aw so glad you enjoyed it!! Haha and yes, I (carmen) want to know about the jumpsuit too! I'll ask Jackie and (hopefully) get back to you here (if I don't forget!!)
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 Hooray! Thanks so much Carmen. Can’t wait to find out! Hope you are having fun in England.
@@meganmoore3764 Thank you!! And I just found out she got it from Joe Fresh last summer if you can believe it!!!
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 💗
Where can you purchase this yarn? I’d love to join the KAL. How do I sign up? Your podcast is wonderful and informative as well as inspiring.
Fingerless mitts would be AMAZING with the pattern! Arctium is in my queue as a must knit also!
@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 Thank you!! Very good information. I’ll keep looking.
I thought you were sitting on a sheepskin. Then it moved and looked at the camera! 50:15 Such a cutie!🙃
I’m in southern Ontario too and would like to try Nutiden yarns. Where are you sourcing it?
Hi Kathleen! Nutiden is made by a Swedish company called Honer Och Eir and they do public releases about 7-8 times per year. Easiest way to know when they are is to follow them on instagram or sign up for their newsletter on their website.
I love Nutiden and was looking for a pattern! Does it come in English? I only saw it in Danish and the English version website does not work.
This was really fun! Is the Nutiden incredibly hard to come by?
Same! I have a growing stash of Nutiden but had difficulty managing it without breaking frequently.

@@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 thank you ☺️
I was wondering the same thing. Is it truly one stranded or one stranded paired with a mohair which you see often and I find that misleading 😊 Hope your next podcast will give me some enlightenment 😜 Loved this one (0.5) episode very much! Keep it up ladies!
