    This is basically combining individual prompts / chats into a single detailed post. I suggested this idea in SeoWritingAI forums back in March but they were too slow to implement it. Maybe I should take a look at Perplexity, it seems they are doing what I was looking for.

    the problem is that when content generation becomes a trivial exercise, then readership of your content will plummet because why would they care about your content when they can just generate it just as easily?

    • @tommylinsley2081
      @tommylinsley2081 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      Yes but... the general public will continue to be too lazy to generate their own content. Proof in point: people continue to ask questions to people that they perceive to be some kind of expert even when it would be much quicker if they just "googled" it themselves (even if they know that their "expert" is just gonna "google" an answer). A.I. will not change human nature.

    • @Dom-zy1qy
      @Dom-zy1qy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tommylinsley2081 I'd imagine the amount of people who ask other people questions on the internet has decreased proportionally with the number of people now using LLMs.
      Besides search engines like Google are already presenting "generated" content (quotation marks bc it's usually RAG based and thus not entirely devoid of human produced content). It's just going to be easier and easier to generate content than it is to look it up, heck I'd argue it already is.
      There's genuinely only been 1 time since chatgpt launched that I've needed to ask other humans for help (was related to aws services), most of the things that aren't cutting edge research can just be coaxed out of LLMs.
      The OP here does bring up a really interesting point, have to agree there.

      One, this can be used by individuals who just want to learn for themselves, and two, generating content requires having a question you want answered. I guess you could click on my headline to see if the content is interesting, then go generate it yourself, but why?

      Genuine human generated content will become the premium content, like handmade furniture or art…. What the world 100% needs now is for all AI generated content in any medium to be stamped as such so the consumers know what is AI and what is Human…. And decide what they consume… I’m so bored of watching AI generated videos already, but as these get better and more ‘Human’ then the need to know if it’s AI or not becomes a huge priority for society

    Perplexity AI uses search engine APIs for its search functionality. While it does not copy search results directly from Google, it does utilize Google's ranking signals to determine link quality. Additionally, Perplexity uses APIs from Bing for its ranking signals and likely accesses Google data through a third party to maintain its own web crawling and indexing capabilities. This approach allows Perplexity to provide comprehensive and accurate answers by leveraging various sources and advanced AI technology.
    This is the answer when I asked it, dows it use search apis. Now 1) i can type my self 2) What if google and bing block these ai bots? What then?

    The brain needs stimulus and challenges to develop. This can be observed in brain scans. When you construct something from scratch, it's like weightlifting for the brain. It has to handle multiple elements, such as imagination, structure, sentence construction, writing, meticulousness, perseverance, and so on. With this new AI tool, it's just another tool to make us dumber and dumber because we forget how to create fundamental knowledge and know-how ourselves. It's a bit like a carpenter reading their way to a degree without ever having held a hammer.

    • @shaunparfett

      I completely agree. I am old enough to have had to use the Dewey Decimal System at a sanctuary for learning called a library - both public and university. Gaining knowledge involved manual labour and discipline. I work in IT and am always amazed at my much younger colleagues' dislike of learning, even though videos like this provide the knowledge without ever leaving your couch. There is no reason to not learn with even the pre-AI technology. I have been saying for years that AI, when it arrived, would not even have to be that intelligent as the world was being dumbed down. For those who will grow up with AI, the employment opportunities will be limited. However, those with a thirst for knowledge will always succeed.

      The thing is I think this is more complicated than you think.
      I think there is such a thing as enabling focus on higher order thinking.
      Think of the progression in mathematics. While higher order theory had the capacity to evolve, its implementation, verification, applicability at scale took far too long using humans to make any of the work meaningful. With more compute, the grunt work was achieved, new problems identified and solved. Mathematics and mathematicians didn’t suffer cognitive loss due to this, they simply get to focus more on the higher order stuff and whether it can be implemented.
      What if we move toward a world where the grunt work just isn’t necessary anymore.
      And the people who do focus on higher order creativity, get to focus on the biggest of concepts rather than spending time making it coherent in text?
      The thing is, it’s already true that some of the best scientists suck at communication via text or speech. But their work is still solid.
      I don’t know I actually still do see merit in what you’re saying. It does make it very hard to think about where to put your effort in.
      Should we keep doing grunt work as an exercise? Or can we achieve bigger and better things by outsourcing?

      @luminariasanctuaryofficial 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Brain dev is one of my specialties, so theory I agree. Are these the skills we need to build though? We have really big problems to solve from climate to ecosystem collapse, that require massively complex long term solutions building, but spending hours daily with formatting and sentence construction isn’t part of the solution, it is a distraction. I’m all for AI helping us focus on the big issues by solving the small ones.

    • @ki2500
      @ki2500 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@luminariasanctuaryofficial I am not necessarily against AI per se, but what I am thinking about is more the process leading to something rather than the actual result. To understand a result and be able to work further with it (on a serious level), it doesn't hurt to understand the process. It's as if everyone now becomes architects without understanding the craft on the construction sites. So the basic knowledge that creates the foundation gets lost. And when you might need to acquire this knowledge, the brain is not trained for it. Stamina and endurance, among other things. So I certainly don't think you can say that these are skills you will no longer need. But, yes, AI is amazing and I use it every day.

    I love perplexity for basic niches, but it’s concerning when it’s a more complex one.
    Perplexity so frequently gets information wrong and hallucinates studies etc, even when linking to a study you think it’d get it right what it’s about.
    I think it’s great for basic niches, like history, dog training, etc… but unreliable in some niches I’m in like health where it’s just too inaccurate to be trusted. To be fair it’s better at research than other off the shelf ai tools. Ultimately tho, we have had to build our own custom solutions in house in order to overcome deficiencies in most ai tools out there.

    I'm having a few problem deciding what AI to subscribe to, at the beginning.
    I've been using Codingfleet to generate and document Code & other development tasks. Python & ChatGPT engine is the default, and other languages & engines are optional.
    So I'm covered on the programming front. But other things like medical explanations or nutrition advice or science summaries, I'm not sure what to use.
    The thing is, the relative advantages of each AI are going to change over time.
    Also, ChatGPT has only monthly subscriptions. I prefer to do an annual subscription, cancel right away so it expires in a year, then manually renew.
    Can you point to a current comparison of strengths for each AI, in terms of both the content and the ease of the interface?

      Thanks very much Dan for the tip. I'll work on a video to compare the different AIs. At the moment, I'm using ChatGPT 4o in the teams plans. Teams plan has better privacy options and much higher limit and since I'm a heavy user, it's the best I've found. I use that for job about everything including summaries and interacting with my own document. I also use Perplexity AI for any search related need. And I pay for that as well to take advantage of the better models they provide for $20 a month. I also use Poe.com. That one gives you access to all kinds of large language and image models and the paid version gives you access to some great models like Claude 3 Opus. I only use that if I'm not liking the answer from ChatGPT and trying to test out other models and see how the answer compares. I use the free version of Gemini only to interact with TH-cam videos, because Google Gemini has a really nice TH-cam extension. And I use Midjourney for anything related to image creation.

      @@SkillLeapAI Thanks, that gives me a place to start, and I'll await your comparison video.
      When you do the comparisons, if you think it's worth it, please include the pricing options - meaning monthly, yearly, or even longer. I would choose the longer subscriptions.

    The content is human. Perplexity has no idea what the Roman Empire is or was, it is just an extraordinarily fast data aggregator. Using human data aggregation to produce a similar article doesn’t make it ‘better’ as such; that would depend upon the level of the human’s knowledge of the Roman Empire. There aren’t many PhD experts creating regular online content. In other words AI will be ‘good enough’ for most casual uses.

    You say it may change how you write content. You are not writing anything. The AI is just synthesizing a search query into the format of an article. Absolutely useless and misleading. "Perplexity pages" are just going to litter the internet with more bot-written bullshit wasting everybody's time and making everyone feel like an expert.
