I made a horror game.
Nextbots have come and gone as a popular gaming meme, but where are all the scary horror games? The best nextbot content can of course be found on Gmod and in some great Roblox games like Nico's Nextbots and Evade, but I wanted a game that was slightly less meme-y and a little more horror-forward! Munci is in need of help, and you must rescue Munci's children from the graveyard. Beware, however, as nextbots like Maxwell the Cat are determined to make your life difficult.

I made a horror game for itch.io (itchio) that focuses on turning Nextbots from Garry's Mod Gmod and Roblox into a scary horror game. I use Unity to develop my game, and I had a blast adding Munci, Maxwell the Cat, and other nextbots into my game. Thoelian is a popular TH-camr who played a large role in the popularity of nextbots, and it would be super cool if he played my game. I think other TH-camrs like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, and Caylus would also like this game, and Caylus even played my last game, The Stairwell Experiments! If you're reading this, I'd love it if you'd recommend my game to your favorite TH-camrs, I would love to see them play it.

I think it'd be even scarier if it was raining. Something about the sky doesn't look right. Fog could work too, but that'd just make it impossible to spot something chasing you, especially in the darkness. You could see through the rain though, it'd solve that problem without causing new ones.

nope, it's all still new to me. but I am definitely extremely slow at editing and spend way too much time tuning everything, but I think I'll get quicker. I did watch (and still watch) a ton of youtube, and I've always been curious about whether or not I'd enjoy it and be good at it. I tended to analyze video editing on stuff I liked and looked at the deep histories of both successful and unsuccessful channels for fun. it's all super fascinating! : )

Dude, I love how the nextbots aren't constantly chasing you in this! I feel like it gives you that rush of adrenaline when you hear the radio turn on, and I find that epic!!!
Also, I find nextbots super unnerving, since they sort of fall into the uncanny valley for me, haha

There was actually a more complicated nextbot named Gargitron, who got an even better version called Terminus. They can:

I loved this! The purring sound was actually very relaxing. My favorite bot was definitely the least scary lol.
I haven't made it really far into the video yet, and I'd be assuming you meant the Maxwell nextbot that appeared in the thumbnail if there weren't already music associated with him.
This man is an actual legend for creating a free game that's _this_ good for a short-lived meme, completely revamping the genre into making it good. Big ups to you my guy.

hey there, thanks! I'm just trying to make the best games I possible can as a solo dev while learning how to get people to notice (marketing is hard!) TH-cam is just one part of my goals, and because I can't make a ton of videos, I'm able to read and respond to comments haha. some people on TH-cam genuinely have too many comments to look after
I was brought to tears when I recognized the backgroung melody from the main menu! It's a truly tresured Ukrainian national song "starry Night" - "Ніч яка місячна". My granny used to sing it acapella to me and that always pulled on my hearstring as it is a romantic and intimate song. I strongly advice you to check out the full song, it's worth it!
when I found the song, I thought it fit the environment so well and it was so beautiful. admittedly, I did not do a deep dive into the song as I was rushing, but I knew it was a Ukrainian folksong. I will be sure to take my time with future music, I'm glad it was accidentally a really good bit of music and culture to spread!

This turned out really good, it's nice to see a game about nextBots that is good and has unique mechanics (the radio and creatures with unique behaviors)and it's not just another mediocre game that probably mines Bitcoin on the computer.

@@derndeff just an idea but if you want to push this even further multiplayer might be a good option. It could work like a game of tag but victory is when you have lasted long enough whilst not being 'it'. The idea popped into my head when I read the word tag just a moment ago.

You should make Gong more uncommon to come across then allow him to break into the sage zone to shake up the players. Then you can make him more like a “survive until he leaves” situation.
I'm so glad everyone's trying to make Nextbots scary again! This looks AMAZING. And, it actually seems pretty damn spooky!
Fun fact: The first nextbots audio for the intro showcase is actually a German number code radio channel. You can tune into it at certain times on the right frequency, but the audio is very unsettling. The audio consists of that creepy jingle then the little girl saying numbers, she repeats it twice as for the military personnel to not forget or miss was was said and thats what the whole channel consists of.
I like the idea that there are 2 harmless nextbots, yet they can actually be harmful in another way. Froggy can block audio cues of dangerous nextbots, giving a risk of being around him. Maxwell getting zoomies and chasing you when you run around him too much (reminds me of when my dog gets excited and runs around when I get playful). Game looks cool. Why not try the game myself? You earned a subscribe.
Stunning work man, I like how you gave your own twist to it. Having an objective helps and the safezone is also a great addition to give that tippy toe feeling of just making it.

that's a good idea, next project will definitely be a little smaller than this one. I have an idea for capturing a fear of heights from manmade structures (which is really the only phobia I have, other than claustrophobia), but part of my objective is creating an interesting video, so it's definitely a balance between game and video idea

Definitely seems like a creepy game! I like the lil' banging the enemies do to the gate when you're in the safe zone. Makes it seem like they really wanna getcha!
The gate rattle was just one of those random thoughts of "oh it'd be super easy to make them play a sound and pause, let's try something real quick" and I really liked how it turned out : )

I feel like a nextbot that could somehow get in the safe zone (only if you mass up of course) could be a good mechanic because breaking the feeling of safety in horror games is a good way to keep the player on edge and stop them from staying in the safe zone the entire time.

YES!!! Someone finally made a scary Nextbot game! Most Nextbot games I find are just filled with stupid memes. This is such a unique and original game too! Also thank you for adding Pinhead (Gong) in the game, I’d seen him in a few games and videos and I hoped more people would use him in games. Anyway great video keep up the good work!
i think making some sort of timer in the safe zone would make the game scarier, like after a certain amount of time in the safe zone then the nextbots can enter the cemetery. Also adding some buildings (both whole ones and decomposing ones) with some hiding nextbots in them could be cool too.
An idea I have is like a nextbot that can alert other nextbots people if your too loud or smt or a nextbot that like mimics the muncis
I am 15 and have been making games since i was 12. I found your channel a few weeks ago and now i love your content. You have inspired me and helped me get back into game dev after a month of inner conflicts. I am now making a game with my friends as the team leader. I just hope that it goes well.

I have an idea that you could do if you ever update your game: what if there was a secret ending where if you find 5 keys around the map and go to a certain place, you can find a hidden cult that made the nextbots hunting you down, and after discovering this, you can get a secret “Munchi night” where instead of finding baby munchi’s, you will have to find lost souls while surviving Munchi themself. And let’s just say she gets… angrier every time you find a soul.
I had a small thought as I was finishing the game thinking that I could add some element where munci becomes dangerous, but the game was already so close to complete lol. if it does get an update, I think something like this would be really cool

I got a amazing idea for a feature: you should add a time limit to add a bit of pressure to the game. When the timer is running out, the mother munci will start stalking intill the timer runs out. When the timer runs out the mother munci will charge at you at full speed and will kill the player. Her jump scare will just be her eyes with static and muffled screams of children in the background.

Looks amazing! If you think about making an update some day, here's some ideas.
1. You can add other tools so the gameplay doesn't heavily depend only on the radio, like an infrared monitor.
2. Maybe add more nextbots?
3. One of those nextbots can only be seen on the infrared monitor and it will only play a warning sound on the radio, after that, the only way to know where is it, is by looking on your infrared monitor to localize its heat.
4. Make your flashlight limited, maybe spread some batteries all over the map, the flashlight can be turned on and off to save power. If its used for too long it will turn off and the player will have to search for batteries in order to keep searching the children.
5. Maybe make the game more long by expanding the map and adding more children, maybe some of them instead of being hidden under gravestones, they can be hidden on an abandoned home, inside the closet, under the bed, etc.
You should upload the game to steam it has a lot of potential!
Love the ideas, I especially like the concept of requiring a visor to see where it is, I've wanted to make a game that has some mechanic like that. I could release it on steam, but it costs $100 which I can't really spend right now on a free game

I've honestly never modded any games before, but nothing is really off the table! I used to love adding mods like the SCP mod to Minecraft, and there was an apocalypse one where you had so many days to gather resources before all the trees would die and it would turn to infinite night... i like the idea

You should add a rare event where theres a 0.02% chance for a rare nextbot to spawn and you have to fight it or something. Good game btw

In the future you should add an update where it allows the player to change the picture that chases you. So they can change whatever is chasing them with the addition of gameplay.
