- This video is about our Alaskan Cruise on the Disney Wonder, August 2018. We enjoyed a 7 day cruise leaving from Vancouver Canada heading towards Alaska.
Monday we boarded the Disney Wonder and headed out from Vancouver towards Alaska. Tuesday our first full day had us traveling 675 miles heading towards the Tongas National Rainforest and Tracy Arm Fjord.
Wednesday after a day at sea we arrived at the mouth of Tracy and Endicott Arm Fjords. Based on the amount of icebergs and the weather report, the captain decided to head up Endicott Arm towards Dawes Glacier. Although there are no ports we were able to board a water-jet-powered catamaran to enjoy the incredible views of the Glacier, icebergs, and waterfalls along the Tongass National Forest.
Thursday we reached our first port of call Skagway Alaska. During the early period of the gold rush, Stagway was the largest city in Alaska with over 10,000 people. Skagway was the gateway and first leg to Dawson city, the Yukon and the gold rush. The white pass mountain trail required miners cross into Canada on a tretcheus path with 2 tons of food and equipment. The large amount of gear was required by the Canadian mounted police based on what was required for survival. At the end of the gold rush the railroad was completed through the pass but by then the gold rush was over. While Joann and the kids spent the day horseback riding in the Valley at the beginning of the Chillkoot Trail. Mom, we enjoyed the views from the White Pass Trail Railroad up through the mountain pass.
Friday brought us to the capital city of Juneau, named after a gold prospector Joe Juneau from Quebec. Our worst weather with rain most of the day. Joann and the kids went hiking and whale watching through the waters of Stephens Passage. Mom, Aunt Denise and I enjoyed the views of Mendenhall Glacier, the only glacier you arrive by car.
Saturday was our last port of call the small town of Ketchikan. Known for the world’s largest collection of totem poles. In fact the totem pole illustration watermark in the US passport is based on one from Ketchikan. We had some great excursions, coastal tour along Misty Fjords. Guided hike through the Black Bear country of the Tongass National Rainforest.
Our last day traveling back to Vancouver was our best weather day by far. The clouds, rain, smoke and haze was gone and we had spectacular views of the Alaskan and British Columbia coast line.
It truely was a great vacation and Disney Cruise Line is a wonderful way to see the southern coast of Alaska. I hope you enjoy the video, leave a comment and let me know what you think - thanks Jim

My wife and I lived in CT for 15 years. We lived and met in Norwalk CT, then moved to Bethel. Both our kids were born in Danbury Hospital. We later moved to PA for work about 12 years ago. But I do think about our time in CT, nice state to live. Cheers Jim

Thank you so much for the kind words. We had a great time. Huge Disney Cruise Line fans, the Alaska Cruise was so much fun. The weather can be hit or miss but it certainly is beautiful and worth the trip. We've been a several Caribbean cruises and the Mediterranean cruise as well. Must admit the Mediterranean cruise of Italy was our favorite. We posted a video of that one too. We are looking forward this summer to another Caribbean cruise in late August. @@jimdickson4462 Yes I did. I am going to make it as a TH-cam video but I didn't get as much as you. My grandparents (the people who took me) don't like being recorded so I had to avoid them when I was also spending time as a family with them. That is really good though that you had a great time and I really do hope that your next Disney Cruise in the future is even better. I also just went on one a couple of days ago so I have even more footage.

Great video!! Loved the editing. I am going on a Disney Alaska cruise in a couple days and I'm so curious as to how the weather was?? You all seemed to be in a general mix of warm and cold weathered clothing throughout the cruise!
Hi Katie - thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Regarding the weather the lower part of Alaska is considered to be a rainforest. Typically we think of tropical rainforest in South America and Asia. But Alaska lower portion you will be seeing is a rainforest. Which means you may see allot of cloudy days and rain. Make sure to bring rain gear just in case. The temps can be as low as 50 degrees this time of year so dress warm. It maybe a good idea to search on youtube clothes to wear on an Alaska cruise. But I would dress for possible cool and wet weather. Reach out with any other questions and have a great time you will love it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, we had a great time. We did a Disney Port Adventure called "Black Bear and Wildlife Exploration - KE12. I'm a huge wildlife fan and seeing the black bears was on my list. Hope you have a great cruise and enjoy Alaska.

Jymn Meier I am so glad you enjoyed the video. We went on the Alaskan cruise specifically for my Mom. We thought she would be able to enjoy the scenes right from the boat. No worries with a wheelchair on the boat. Many folks with wheelchair needs enjoy the ship with no issues. Also many of the excersions are assessable with a wheel chair. Many more than you think. You should have no problem.

Thanks for comment Joel - we never saw the passengers get back on the ship. I have a feeling they didn't get back on. If that's the case they would have had to take a small plane and meet us at the next port.

Sure Melissa, we had two different excursions. My wife, Mom and Aunt went on KE19 Misty Fjords & Wilderness Explorer. Speed up the coast in a catamaran to Misty Fjords to observe a wealth of wildlife and stunningly grand natural features. Me and my kids went on KE12 Bear Country & Wildlife Expedition. Observe the majestic wild black bear and other wildlife in their natural habitat from the safety of an elevated boardwalk.
What type of camera are you using to film?

CATAMARAN? Up here we'd call it a FERRY. Catamarans are long n sleek sailing boats, me thinks! 😃😄 😉
Interesting, yeah Ferry's in the lower 48 are are more known for transporting people and goods from one place to another. Although many times they can be Catamarans which are simply two hull motor or sailboats. Although Sailboats are the most common multihual or catamaran boats. What excursion did you do to see the bears?
It was the day we arrived at Ketchikan. It was the port adventure called - Black Bear and Wildlife Exploration (Seasonal) (KE12)
