Thank you! This video explains the evolution of insular script very clearly.
It’s fun to see the cat disrupting you while you’re writing. I‘m a calligraphy lover from China and I have a black cat too.😂

There are more Uncle Jack. I also covered - as best as possible - Uncials, English Vernacular Minuscules, touched on the differences with Irish Insular Minuscules and Carolingian. It was all intended to aid script recognition and to show how to do the odd bits. And I covered a few related things. In a sort of haphazard way! Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

I am so pleased you enjoyed the video. Did you watch the others or is this the only script you wanted to see? And Brazil! How thrilling.

Hello John. How marvellous. I have 2 FB friends in Japan but how did you hear of me I wonder? Did you see the other videos? Appreciate your comments ... my FB friends are very biased.

I was searching for insular majuscule videos and this was one of the search results. More specifically, I was comparing page from the Book of Kells to the example in The Calligrapher's Bible and was a little stuck on the dart, which felt awkward to me. Your video was very helpful.

Thanks so much for sharing, I love your perspective of the difference between the two scripts. I also wasn’t expecting you to pull out an actual feather quill! Any suggestions for inks?

Thank you for the kind comments. As for inks ... that depends on 2 things. First dip or fountain/cartridge. Second where you live as you will have access to brands unknown to me in UK. Pens ..... dip pens and quills you can use any ink you like. If a metal nib make sure you clean thoroughly and dry even more carefully after use. If using fountain or cartridge pens then you must read labels more thoroughly. Indian ink or any which includes SHELLAC are to be avoided as shellac is a varnish and will set hard in the mechanism and render the pen useless. DO NOT try and put Iron Gall ink in it either ... it is corrosive and has particles - this is dip pen only and even more care for cleaning is to be used with a metal nib. Some 'calligraphy' inks are quite thick, you can thin them down with some distilled water. Buy syringe and fill your own empty black cartridges - much cheaper. I use Quink for that. I like Winsor Newton inks but most calligraphy suppliers will carry a range of inks which can be used. Just check labels or info to see if there are recommendations etc !! I am on FB but you can contact me on dawnb.1320@gmail.com if you need further help. Will do my best to answer.
