Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 5 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming background I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15 We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to were we are now. We took on a 500 acre hill farm in 2019 currently 5 years into the tenancy.

Great job Sam, Firstly ALL farmers are Somebody not nobody's, without farms where would we be ?? Secondly as a retired Welder fabricator that welding was a piece of class, I've seen welders not weld as good as that and as for the sunken tractor, I thought for a minute I was watching Clarksons Farm !!! What beautiful scenery Sam.. very beautiful in the summer but I bet it's incredibly hard in the winter! I've seen tractors bogged down but that was well done, well done on getting it out with out damaging anything. 👍

I like it that most of the time you are so upbeat. Great content, kids, baby farmer! Oliver welding and award. I am going on a cruise in two weeks and needed some clothes without Lycra to which I'm allergic at a local thrift store. Found a great pair of pants and complementary shirt. I hope you can get off a day and take your sister and baby shopping.

Made me laugh that someone else (and not you) this time got well and truly stuck/bogged down and with two tractors required to free it. Loved Nancy’s exclamation of ‘get in there’ after a successful operation. Brilliant video and congrats on the nomination. You could probably wear a dressy trouser combo but it’s always nice to get togged up in a fancy party dress.

I agree when the sky is blue and the ☀️ is out it makes you feel happy
Once bailing is done how long can the wrap stay on each bale. I know this helps fermentation
Although I live 4 miles from Birmingham City Centre I can drive 15 minutes and I’m in Staffordshire countryside and I see the wrapped bales all over the fields.
@joanne26 it sure does, can stay on forever. But the crop inside might not be okay. Usually like to use them up 1st year if not 2nd year is okay but after that not sure crop be okay unless it's nice dry stuff. Wet bales will just rott.

Oliver how do you find the Zetor?
He's started off with zetors and built upto this one. They are cheaper and very reliable. Most reliable tractors we've had. 👍
@@Sam-shutt totally with you on that. I still have a 1972 Zetor 2511 and Zetor crystal 8011. Built like bricks. Newer ones were not as good but the latest seem to be reliable
