A guide to flat shows in SSO!
What are flat shows?
Flat shows are apart of a discipline called Hunters or Equitation in real life, which somewhat translates to SSO. In real life they are referred to as Under Saddle. Hunters are based off of how the horse moves and looks, whereas equitation is based off of the riders equitation. It is rated out of 50. For each mistake you make points will be deducted, including incorrect attire. In Star Stable, flat shows are based on how you control your horse and how reactive you are to commands. Ex. Staying on the rail, only going on the quarter line for passing, not cutting people off, circling, and quickly reacting to what the judge is asking.
What attire should you wear, and what should you not?
For flat shows with rated attire you should wear a show coat in a darker shade of the colour green, navy, black, or brown. Beige and white tight fitted breeches (riding pants) are allowed. Black helmets, gloves, and boots are most common but brown is allowed as well. No facial accessories are preferred. For the horse, brown bridles and saddles are standard but black is allowed as well. You should wear a jumping saddle and a simple English bridle with a Cavesson noseband. Flashes (the piece that connects to the noseband and goes in front of the bit) and drop nosebands (another type of noseband that completely goes in front of the bit, not attached to a normal cavesson) are illegal in real life and at times in Star Stable if the attire rules are on the stricter side. Boots are not allowed in real life and most of the time not allowed in Star Stable. You should wear a white saddlepad, preferably a shaped pad (sometimes referred to as a numnah) in real life and in star stable. If not, then you can use a normal long white saddlepad or one of the short cut ones. Mane bows are not allowed, but coloured tail bows are allowed to signify if your horse is a possible danger.
Flat show lingo
Cutting- cutting across the arena form one side to the other
Q-line (Qaurter line)- rather than on the rail, you would be about a quarter way into the arena if you are on the quarter line. This should only be used to pass another rider.
Reverse- the change of direction. Most people in star stable just do a tight half circle then continue in the other direction, but you are really meant to go towards the inside of the arena, turn towards the direction you were initially going in, then come back to the rail and continue in the opposite direction. This usually occurs at the walk.
Show name- when the judge asks for your show name, you should say your SSO first and last name or a made up first and last name, then say riding and owning or showing and owning (or just one, ex. Showing, riding, not showing and owning or riding and owning), then your horses show name. An example of a show name would be “Guaranteed Gold”. You may also see letters in front of a horses show name, ex. “RS Gauranteed Gold”. This is to emulate real life, as registered names (show names) are often already used, so the breeders barn name initials will go before the actual show name. People use either their SSO initials or the initials of the club that they were in when purchasing the horse. Ex. Lillian Polarfeather showing and owning “RS Guaranteed Gold”. I personally like fo add a little extra information to my show names, but this isn’t necessary. Ex. Lillian Polarfeather showing and owning 2011 Dutch Warmblood, “RS Guaranteed Gold”

Hey! I am a sso live shower, so I do a ton of flat show every weekend! You did pretty good, and I just thought I would throw a few tips out there! For a flat show this is how I would dress: typically hunter flat shows are considered to be “pleasure” while equitation flats are considered actually called flats. In both you can only wear a Navy or a Black Show coat. In most Hunter undersaddles however, you can wear green, burgundy, grey, black, or navy. So because its a global show, you can wear any of those colors! Black is best for the helmet, gloves (full length), and tall boots. Those tan breeches are good! The saddle pad should be a white or cream half pad, or the numah (white fluffy saddle shaped pad). The bridle has a flash on it, which would get points taken off in a live show, but im not so sure about a global show. Brown tack is nice! And the last thing, is please PLEASE DONT EVER WEAR anything on your horses legs again for a flat show! hunters is all about those bare legs 😂

show names are basically when you make up a name for your horse that is like "Sign of the Time" or "Queen of Hearts", tail bows are only the back bow not the front, tail bows aren't required if they aren't needed.

Answers to questions throughout the video (I don't play SSO, but I ride competitively:
Q-line: Quarter line. Dressage arenas are 60mx20m. There's a line that splits right down the middle of this to make two long rectangles, called the centrelines. There are two quarter lines in an arena, midway between the centre line and the track.
Flat class: also known as rail classes, they mark the horse and rider. There are no jumps in flat classes.
Attire: generally white boots, saddle pads, etc. In dressage, you'll rarely see brown tack, but idk about hunters. As for coat colours, it depends on where you are, eg. some countries have red coats for showjumpers.
Where to be in the arena: if you look up 'arena rules', you'll see things like faster horse gets the outside track. So if one horse is cantering, those trotting will do so on the inside track. It's courtesy to not walk or halt on the outside track or near the rails.
Tail ribbons: the colour of each bow has a meaning, but this can vary depending on where you live - these are the ones for Australia. Red in the tail = kicks, red on the mane or forelock = bites, green = green/young horses that are new to the show ring, blue = stallions, white = for sale.
Hand gallop: A forward, slightly extended canter in which judges often like to see horses in a frame that's longer whilst still engaging the hind end. It remains a three-beat gait, making it not a racing gallop.
Show name: a horse's official, registered name. Ie, my horse's show name is Another Sunny Day, as he was sired by Another Warrior (who was, in turn, sired by Brave Warrior). All of his siblings have 'another' in their name. Some that I've met include Another Lady, and Another Elliot. Similarly, my mare, out of Piperia, is called Piperia's Train. Though not all horses are named after their parents, most horses or high-end breeders do this so people know where they're from.
I'll say again, that I don't play SSO. I have never played SSO, and probably never will (I'm broke). All these tips are from my experience showing irl, but I'm more familiar with three- and one-day-eventing. Hope this helped

Hi I’m a English equestrian and I wanted to give you a few tips. So with flat shows you don’t wear boots and you have to wear a saddle shaped saddle pad outher than that you did really good

I only have lifetime on 2 accounts- the rest are for mail times and are not Star rider. A lot of them were made for sso con 💗
