Just bought a Blackfoot and Beetle at the same time and 2 of these Diffs are on the way as well. Thanks for pointing this out, that diff made my first Blackfoot a nightmare!!!
I hadn't even heard of this before I saw Matteo's video - thanks guys for getting this awesome info out there! I can't wait to get mine installed when it arrives this week!
This is great! Thank you for putting together this video! I have what I think would be an original Blackfoot I received as a teenager around 89. It hasn’t run in years but I took it to our local Hobby Town a few years ago asking what I could do to get it running for my kids. The store owner was the same guy we would have purchased it from years ago but he said there wasn’t anything we could do with it. If I recall correctly I needed a new set of dog bones almost every time I ran it because they would round out. I think it may have issues with it electronically as well but at least this is a start!
Yeah those dogbones are a pain! MIP makes a replacement diff to be used with the new tamiya CVD's. It is episode 44. As for electronics, some a simple turbo racing radio with a cheap brushed ESC and you are good!
I am inclined to comment - very awesome vid, I can't belelive how well your closeups are, super fast focus and amazing explanation! Indeed I remember the thorps, and I have a few on me, one for the tamiya beetle, kyosho scorpion and I think one for the ultima, keeping them all, I got them for a bargain with a bunch of other stuff, they are the 'holy grail' of vintage hop ups, the new ones - MIPs have the same soul as the vintage ones and I am grateful to tamiya to making these re-releases for all to enjoy
Oh I know. I remember when those thorps were out....but my 10 year old self could never afford such a thing! Who knew that me going to MIP every few months to bother them about that diff for 7 years would finally have worked....
@@AMPROEngineering Customer feedback and great insight from others always befits one and all if they listen to it. Great stuff. Just got myself a kyosho field baja beetle body, 1998 release I think since it is a single speed and has a GX11 engine on it, just love kyosho engineering on the roller, but not so much the lexan bodies, I prefer tamiya hard bodies, nothing compares but for bashing, lexan is the inexpensive option
AMPRO Engineering for that very reason not one of my car is stock, all are custom builds, I like to use bodies from tamiya mostly and kyosho, tamiya, ayk parts all come together for a one of a kind build, mostly for scale look. It’s been working good so far, vintage parts are hard to come by but if one keeps looking, he or she will find it.
Hi from Canada. So excited to pick up a Monster Beetle 2015 at my LHS - should arrive within the next couple weeks! Thank you for your very informative video regarding the MIP Super Ball Diff. Went and ordered one right away as I want to have the best experience running my Beetle (with the stock motor). Cheers Alberto!
Great video mate, always love listening to your wisdom and knowledge. I'm one of the 80% overseas sales. I bought two MIP Super Ball Diffs, one each for my Blackfoot and Monster Beetle re-releases. I've also just acquired an original Blackfoot, and just tonight won an original Subaru Brat body. Those two items will become my "Ulitmate wanted ORV", the Mud Blaster. When money allows i will be upgrading to the MIP diff, and drive-train in the original Blackfoot come Mud Blaster. Also very keen on 3 sets of your Tamiya Blackfoot ORV Series Zero Toe-In Steering Knuckles. Again, once some money frees-up I will get some. Thanks for your videos
Wisdom...I like you. Glad you like the ball diff! Took 7 years to make that happen but for me it made the ORV actually something I can drive. Without that, my Monster Beetle was rarely driven and my Brat got its diff locked for the trailer I tow with it. Honestly I didn't like the ORV. Then the ball diff happened and now I am finally in love!
Thank you for all the info I subbed I still have my original Blackfoot to put together, release actually and I just purchased the Blackfoot 3 yesterday!! thanks for all the input in the link I'm definitely going to get the MIP ball diff. I tried to put one of these together when I was a little boy 30 something years ago when it came out and I remember smashing it to Pieces because of the rear end fell apart on me right away, how times have changed and things have gotten better, now I can relive my childhood! 😁😁👍👍👌👌
Thanks for the great vid. I am waiting on my OG Mud Blaster to arrive. It was built, never painted or ran outside. But I am going to fully build it, and also do a Monster Beetle body and I WILL run this OG Mud Blaster outside...no shelf queens here! Seller is even tossing in a period correct ESC for it....I cant wait to run it!
Very nice! Careful with that mudblaster shell though, they are ultra rare and weak as glass. I would snag a lexan runner shell for it. They are indestructible.
Great vid Alberto, I want the next special episode to be the BEHIND THE SCENES at MIP as they are ACTUALLY MAKING and packaging this work of art, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask Eustace if he will let you film that ala How It's Made.
Nice video! I acquired a Monster Beetle re-release around 2016 and it was sitting in storage until my kid grew up. Now we built it together and on first battery run it sounded like the gearbox is full of rocks, it ran but it sounded really bad. I've been reading on "clicking" around the web but ours sounds more like popping (or rocks). I installed the Traxxas shims yesterday and it seems to be running okay-ish, but when turning the wheels on hand I guess the issue is still there. I am hoping the ball diff will fix this issue, it costed arm and leg to order from USA to my country. But my kid absolutely loves the build so I must get it up and running. :)
Yes, the ball diff is the permanent solution to this horribly annoying problem. I know so many people that try all kinds of things to get the gears to work better but there is only one solution to this. Even with the gear pressed in place, the trash pot metal is terrible and they will always wear out eventually...always at the worst time. I worked for years with MIP to get this to market and it is just outstanding. Please note all the other parts you need as mentioned in the video. There are part numbers in the description for the axles and dogbones.
@@AMPROEngineering Thank you a lot for your detailed reply! I will order the replacement parts also you mention on the video. I hope it's happy driving after improvements.
I started getting my MIP diff assembled for my re-release Brat and I believe there are more parts needed for those with any era Frog, Brat, or Lancia Rally. As you noted, a new counter gear is needed "Part Number 58060 - X9954" but that does not include the counter gear bearings needed to complete the diff. in the Monster Beetle re-relase manual it calls for 2 x BB8 which is a Tamiya 850 metal bearing (note that stock this is NOT a ball bearing) to be used in the counter gear. With the Brat counter gear you use 2 x MD2 which is a Tamiya 1150 ball bearing. The counter gear bearings from the Brat/Frog/Lancia Rally do not carry over to the Monster Beetle/Blackfoot counter gear, they are too big. So if I have it right, those of us with vintage Brat/Frog/Lancia Rally or re-release Brat/Frog would also need 2 x 850 metal bearings or 2 x 850 ball bearings to be used in conjunction with the new counter gear. The counter gear shaft and the white plastic shaft ends/caps seem to be the same and would be used in the reassembly of the diff. Not sure if this is noted anywhere else or if anyone else has run into it yet.
The bearings are different? Really? Wow I had not noticed that. Thank you for the info. I need to take a look at my cars. I have installed this on the Brat but not the frog. I think the brat may already have had the BF gear set. This is why I didn't notice it but I do have a Frog that is completely stock.
AMPRO Engineering Just wanted to circle back on this. I finally got my bearings in and they fit the counter gear. I ordered standard MR85 ball bearings which I got a little cheaper than any Tamiya package I found them in. Loving my new ball diff now!
I had the ole Thorp in my Black Foot from the 80's. Cool to have another and have good brushless motor and lipo battery. The thorp did make a noticeable difference
Just ordered the MIP diff. Despite the screw mod through the centre of my stock diff, it died running brushless power. I'm really looking forward to the new diff & a UK supplier has stock so it should arrive in a couple of days.
Yeah I also had the screw mod. Ignoring the basic design flaw, we are still talking about aluminum gears. They just will not hold up. Hope you like it! I bought 6!
Good vid. Looking forward to seeing them running. I have one of these on the way. Unfortunately this means I will have to rip apart the rear end which has your double wishbone set up on it. And I really wish I listened more when you stated only an 80mm length shock. Oh well.
You know, it was faster for me to install this on my double wishbone car than my monster beetle. Very little needs to be taken apart on the rear end so that's a plus. And yes, 80mm shocks max. Any more and you risk damaging the outdrives/axles. Just make sure the axles and the outdrives do not rub or come into contact with each other. Let me know if you have any questions.
Awesome! I just recently (last month) built a RC10B6d so I know how similar this diff is with the awesome Team Associated stealth ball diff. Whenever I build a ball diff, I use one of those magnetic trays to dump everything in so I dont lose anything. I'm very clumsy :( Definitely want one of those monster beetles. Cant wait to see what parts they make for Tamiya classics in the future.
Finally ordered the MIP ball diff set! I found an old school Blackfoot in fairly good shape a while back, stripped it completely down and restored it with the addition of modern electronics and new bearings. I made the mistake of also adding a 540 Torque Tuned Motor and after 4 runs, the original diff turned to grey jelly. I oddly feel bad about destroying it because it was original to the truck but also surprised it lasted that long. 😂 After installing the MIP diff, what would you say is the best upgraded Tamiya motor that one could install without over doing it? I want the Blackfoot to be quicker but I also don’t expect it to do 30 mph down the road. Your advice would be much appreciated. Great tutorial as always!
It is an outstanding upgrade. I am a bad person to ask that question, lol, everything I have is slow. If you want more speed, a brushed 18T mod is good. I have seen insane brushless setups but remember, this is an ancient design and is not capable of modern motors. I hope that helps.
@@AMPROEngineering Hmm, then maybe I'll stick with my Torque Tuned motor and call it a day or I may try the Sport tuned for a tiny bit more pep. Both of my boys want it to go faster, which I totally get, but I don't want to break it either. lol
Hi, thanks for the video! Great job explaining the install! I was wondering, I picked up a Frog that was originally from the 80’s. Given that if these style vehicles aren’t driven on road and mostly in sand/dirt, can you just lock the diff gears together with JB Weld and make a locked differential?
Do they have a better from in suspension for the new release Blackfoot truck please comment back and let me know because it does the same thing all the other ones do
I have a dirt burner in my modded Blackfoot, to go with the sassy chassis aluminum chassis, JG carbon fiber shock mounts, kyosho gold shocks, lemans 360 motor, rooster speed control... built it 20 yrs ago!
Any suggestions for further upgrades? I just watched yur vid on the swing arm reinforcements, the JG rear shock mounts actually use that lower hole in the arms for the vertical relocation.
I have an original Monster Beetle gear box that I need to do this too. You are saying that I will have to pick up new axles in order for them to reach diff?
That is correct. The Original hex drives will not work with this diff. Only the 2015 and 2016 CVD axles will work. The 2005 Frog & Brat dog bones will not work either.
So yes and no. Yes it will work but you need to change the main gear to the the blackfoot style. Then you need to make sure your frog has the CV axles as this was never tested with the dogbones and obviously wont work on the hex drives.
hi im frank hey throp wasnt the only one to make a slip diff for the the mud blaster ,frog brat,Blackfoot i had a mud blaster back in the day.and I used a throp diff first but than Robinson racing product came out with a slip diff in a 32pitch or 48pitch witch I run telescopeing shaft with from them and it was awesome . so technically they are the first to incorporate rc-10 technology in this matter but some time I would love to talk to you about the mud blaster in more detail .
Oh yeah Robinson made one too. I am just happy to get rid of those old Thorps. Now, these are bullet proof. I will have a buyers guide on the MB soon. Working through the Frog still. You can email me at amproengineering@gmail.com
@@AMPROEngineering thanx man i really didn't have any trouble with either one but like I said Robinson came in a 48p thorps only came in 32p but withe the frogs 3 different counter gears it was better than stock,
i used to have a blackfoot back in the 80's. i upgraded it with a trinity motor and what i believe was a ball slipper or ball diff i cant remember, i just remember the guy at the hobby shop said i should get that with the trinity mod motor.
it may have been. i think the reason i thought it was a ball slipper is because the gold pan rc10 i had back in the 80s had a ball slipper i believe. i remember a friend at church had the original rc10 gold pan and wanted to trade me for my modded blackfoot so i did, i couldnt pass that up. i had always wanted an rc10 back then especially after seeing jay halsey in magazines with one...lol.
Such a great addition to this line of Tamiya models. I just installed one this weekend and the Blackfoot is like a whole different truck. How hot of a motor have people been running with this dif in the gearbox? I had an old speed gems garnet 13tx2 I put in and the truck feels really fast. Just worried about eating up the nylon gears.
The ball diff is indestructible but the rest of the gears are not, as you mention. I think a 13x2 is too hot for me but I am running a 17x3 Orion and it feels great. Just be careful with jumping and landing with the tires spinning under load. The ball diff has no slip.
Great video! Please could you tell me whether the rubber o rings off the old cups are to go back in the new cups or are the not needed with the new diff? Many thanks 👍
If you are using the constant velocity drive axles then you will not use O-rings. If you are using the older style dog bone then Install the O-rings as they were originally
Hi there. I took screen shots of the item numbers for the shafts and pinion for Blackfoot that should be used for ReRe Brat etc. The numbers don’t get recognized online for the gear set to be used for Brat. Can you please put up the correct numbers I can cross reference for ReRe brat? Thanks.
They are correct, I just searched them: www.jadlamracingmodels.com/tamiya-frog-hot-shot-boomerang-bigwig-thunder-shot-3515004-13515004-16t-pinion/ www.tamiyausa.com/shop/tamiya-goods/rc-diff-spur-c-gear-58060/
So the CVD's that are needed come with the re-release BF or if you have an original (which it seems like you do) then you need to locate the Tamiya 53908 set that I go over at 18:30 in the video. MIP does not make these.
I have insdtalled this in 2 other vehicles ... attempted a third one today and the thing just slips and slips ... I have disassembled, reassembled, cleaned, regreaesed and adjusted the diff exactly as shown in this video ... any tips or insight ? WHat would cause it to slip, what could I be missing ?
Hmmmm....once I heard a customer got the wrong diff balls...That sounds like what you are talking about. I would reach out the customer service and let them know. I think that is the issue.
They are my design. See episode 13. I happen to have a couple sets ready to go if you are in the USA. If not, shapeways handles that globally. Email me at amproengineering@gmail.com
Great installment. Still waiting for mine to ship to Europe together with a friend's package (saves shipping costs). We ordered them the first week. Looking forward installing them in my new shiny MB 2015. It will never run with the stock diff :-) Your 'Beetle Power! Watch Out!' will actually have a new meaning now. By the way, do the diffs come with an MIP sticker? Thought I saw one in the package. It's gonna be great running it in 2017. Still anxious to be able to solve the rumble-tumble-problem with the wheels that the Universal Shafts are causing though.
AMPRO Engineering Sounds amazing!!!! I expect them to work better with full suspension than the Tamiya. That would simply and truely make the Monster Beetle a real runner! :-)
UGH I'm having such an issue with this diff. For some reason when I tighten it down in the final step, the only way the two shafts turn in opposite directions like they're supposed to, is when its almost too tight to operate. Then when I loosen it & turn the shafts, they both turn in the same direction. I'm so stuck.
It was intended for the rere so for a vintage one you will need the rere axles, as I mention in the video. If you have a rere, then you are good to go.
hi the thing i dont like about this mip diff is that these no upgrade parts like steel parts and they say the screw in the middle goes lose over time is that right? good video have u tamiya grease not mip grease they say its better i'm not sure can u tell me thanks
No these are case hardened steel and the screw will never back out like old ones from the 80's. Carbide balls and precision CNC parts. MIP grease is designed for this application. Do not use Tamiya grease on it.
Yes. As noted in the video, you will need to get the new Tamiya CVD axles for it to be compatible. They can be found on ebay and usually on the Tamiya site for your country (www.tamiyausa.com should you be in the USA)
Do you have some kind of website that I could see all the hop app stuff that you have for the Blackfoot and for the king Blackfoot? Also for the monster beetle and for the brat, please please comment back and let me know. Thank you so very much. I've always commented and you've always get back to me now. Thank you.
I have a Super Blackfoot from the early 90s, it has a different transmission that's all plastic. Will this diff work in it? If not Would I be able to swap a 2016 transmission into it? The rear suspension is different than the original and 2016
No it wont. The super blackfood doesnt need it since the diff on that is excellent. You could install the blackfoot trans and suspension but I would not do it. The SBF is way better than the original.
Haha! Well take it from me, if you don't have the MIP diff, you can't run the big wheeled ORV series. That diff was trash and caused me years of grief when I was a kid.
Never understood why Tamiya didn't step it up and remedy this problem decades ago. It's really sad on they're part. And yes I'm a tamiya fan through and through.
Honestly a solid diff like the Brat and Lancia had would have solved it. The Frog was the one that came out with the working diff. I am just glad MIP now has the final solution with their Ball Diff.
It sounds like something is binding. This differential is designed specifically for the black foot and not the frog or the other small wheeled variants. If you install this in one of those, the gears will not mesh correctly as I brought up in the video. If that is not the case, something else is preventing the gear train from turning. Double check your assembly
Hello I have a original 1986 Tamiya blackfoot with throp racing gears in transmission, and I was play with it and motor locked up,and now the transmission squeals, and gears still looks good, and moves slow, could it be my bearings in transmission doing this, thanks for your help
Hi Justin, what you are describing sounds like motor failure. Does the motor work when it is not installed? It also could be a bad bearing but the squeal is usually something related to the motor. Does the trans spin freely when it is assembled?
Do you mean tried installing this in the WO or am I familiar with the one on the WO? Yes to both! LOL! We tried to see if we could get this to fit multiple Tamiya's but the face was that none of them needed the diff like the ORV's and there would have been too many compromises to make them fit other cars. If this is a sales success then this will not be the end of upgrades for Tamiyas from MIP.
I got an MIP tranny on an on-road stock conversion RC-10 and performance-wise it gets 5 stars, however not sure we buying MIP aftermarket parts are gonna keep them afloat. We are lucky to have all these reissues from Tamiya, but people like Associated only did their old 1984 buggy 1 time and they sold out too quickly. Lots of people lost out on that classic and It's a damn shame. If you want that reissued RC-10, you gotta pay 1000k for it on Ebay.
They do a great deal of OEM parts as the main revenue. Plus the owner is brilliant! There is no room for a single mistake in this era of cheap overseas manufacturing that's for sure.
Good question, there are three main parts to it, all with separate numbers but I would google "tamiya blackfoot CVD Universal". I cant wait for the MIP telescopic ones.
I am wondering if you ever made the parts for the king BlackfootSo I can put in one big order for all of My RC car parts please comment back Please let me know thank you so very much for all of your video RC Cars and trucks thank you again bye now
@@AMPROEngineering OK thank you so very much if you would can you please put it to my attention TH-cam comment back to me and let me know when you are doing it for when it is done thank you so very much Please be safe you and your family with this Virus going on Bye bye now
Any idea what size/dimension those first 6 ball bearings are? I got the set and opened it and they all spilled all over the place. Of course, I found 5, but didn't find the sixth.
Josh Millington well it is not the Motor mourn that is the issue, the diff gear is not Going to mate with the brat counter gear correctly. You need the monster beetle gear bag then you will be all set.
2016 black foot I put in a mip super ball diff black foot comes with a 10 tooth pinion gear do i use 10 tooth pinion gears or a 16 tooth pinion gears thanks again
So I installed this on my 2015 Monster Beetle and I am pretty sure I installed everything right however I noticed that when I run the Beetle at full throttle from a stand still there is considerable slippage it seems. The motor will wind up but the Beetle won’t take off... rather it slowly starts going then gets up to speed. Might this have something to do with the tightening of that in internal spring in the ball diff? It almost seems like when a grub screw on a pinion gear is slightly loose (however I did check that by the way and it is tight). Sorry, gearing isn’t my specialty. Any ideas?
Hmmmm, yeah there should be no slippage at all. Are the diff balls and the thrust balls installed in the right spots? I would snug up that diff screw and see how that goes before you tear it down. Let me know.
So, I finally found the time to play around with this. I did what you said and tightened the diff screw all the way down and then backed off a little over 1/8th turn this time. Worked! I guess that screw is very sensitive to the performance if only a slight turn made that much difference. Thanks for your help! And thank you for what you do! I have so many mods of yours on my Monster Beetle that it looks like something else now. You should set up a page online somewhere so we can upload pics of our Ampro modded rides!
The gearbox was good until they put it in the black foot where the differential was just not capable of the loads exerted by the rotating mass of the wheels. Once you replace that with the MIP diff, the gearbox is solid.
@@AMPROEngineering I Agree but disagree on using nylon they just disintegrate with brushless power using steels gears in my frog has fixed that problem
The stock counter gear? Does the trans close up completely? Is this on a re-re? There should be some play in the stock set up but how much are you seeing? It should fit the same way that it did before you opened it to replace the diff. Let me know.
AMPRO Engineering it is the new Transmission I just don't remember it having about a 1/4 inch of play. I am going to take it apart again. Also where did you get the bigger roll pins for the rear arms on the shapeways IRS. Thanks
A quarter inch! No that isnt correct. As for the roll pins, I actually used tamiya screw pins. I think they are usually found in kit parts bags. I typed "tamiya screw pin" on ebay and buy the longest ones i can find since I can chop them shorter if need be. Wish I had a part number but thanks to Tamiya I dont. Keep me posted with the trans. I installed 6 so far and they are perfect.
AMPRO Engineering What would be the best way to reach you besides TH-cam. I took it apart today and two other transmission still I have to much play on the counter gear in the new transmission. Should I make a video?
September 2017. Out of stock from MiP directly. Had to buy from Chinese seller on eBay. Hoping it's authentic. Will see when it gets here. Will need the cvd's next.
$60 is over priced? I sold my ancient Thorp diffs for $150 each after I bought a dozen of these. For engineered/manufactured in the USA with the best materials available, its dirt cheap.

It certainly felt good.

That's awesome Vinny. I know for me, that diff changed the ORV. It is fun now!
I had the ole Thorp in my Black Foot from the 80's. Cool to have another and have good brushless motor and lipo battery. The thorp did make a noticeable difference
I had a thorp in mine too. So much better than the stock gears but it still wore out all the time! Haha! So glad that these MIP units came out!
I bought 6!
looking forward to getting one soon
yeah it really transformed the truck for me.
Oh man great job on that Diff! i need a MIP Ball diff for my 86 Monster Beetle
Thank you! It is awesome but remember, like me you will need to get the new CVD axles from the 2015 Monster Beetle for it to work. What a change!
Thanks for that i will indeed! Cant wait!
I'm very clumsy :(
Definitely want one of those monster beetles. Cant wait to see what parts they make for Tamiya classics in the future.
Yeah, the Stealth is a piece of art. I love mine. I have a magnetic tray but they work too well, the balls got stuck, haha!
After installing the MIP diff, what would you say is the best upgraded Tamiya motor that one could install without over doing it?
Both of my boys want it to go faster, which I totally get, but I don't want to break it either. lol
Just got mine this week. Haven't even started building my beetle re-release though.
You are going to love it. I just did a running video.
i got mine also i cant wait to get my beetle finished up and get started building my blackfoot
Nice, you will love it.
Yes you can. This was how the Brat and Lancia rally came originally.
Do they have a better from in suspension for the new release Blackfoot truck please comment back and let me know because it does the same thing all the other ones do
The original and rere blackfoot are for the most part, identical. They only added CVD rear axles.
I have a dirt burner in my modded Blackfoot, to go with the sassy chassis aluminum chassis, JG carbon fiber shock mounts, kyosho gold shocks, lemans 360 motor, rooster speed control... built it 20 yrs ago!
Well done!
Any suggestions for further upgrades? I just watched yur vid on the swing arm reinforcements, the JG rear shock mounts actually use that lower hole in the arms for the vertical relocation.
I would say body mount braces are a good thing to add as well as the zero bump steer knuckles.
I guess because of the sassy chassis I can't convert to the double wishbone rear suspension.
I guess it depends on how the trans is attached. Most of the rear suspension is bolted to the trans.
Did you ever make a really bar for the super blackfoots and how about the monster beetle please comment back it let me know
Not yet
I have an original Monster Beetle gear box that I need to do this too. You are saying that I will have to pick up new axles in order for them to reach diff?
That is correct. The Original hex drives will not work with this diff. Only the 2015 and 2016 CVD axles will work. The 2005 Frog & Brat dog bones will not work either.
have you ever made those front Parts yet for the king Blackfoot
Working on it very soon.
Can also be used in the Frog gear box ? ... Which my understanding is the same gearbox shared by the Blackfoot
@@AMPROEngineering thanx man i really didn't have any trouble with either one but like I said Robinson came in a 48p thorps only came in 32p but withe the frogs 3 different counter gears it was better than stock,
Great channel, dude. What tyres are those on the Beetle?
Thank you! They are stock Blackfoot and Bruiser tires.
i used to have a blackfoot back in the 80's. i upgraded it with a trinity motor and what i believe was a ball slipper or ball diff i cant remember, i just remember the guy at the hobby shop said i should get that with the trinity mod motor.
Sounds like you got a Thorp ball diff. I used to have a few of those but canned them when I got the MIP unit. This thing is a masterpiece!
it may have been. i think the reason i thought it was a ball slipper is because the gold pan rc10 i had back in the 80s had a ball slipper i believe. i remember a friend at church had the original rc10 gold pan and wanted to trade me for my modded blackfoot so i did, i couldnt pass that up. i had always wanted an rc10 back then especially after seeing jay halsey in magazines with one...lol.
Oh don't remind me of the old Associated 6 gear trans...that thing ruined my childhood! Haha!
Bought 2 of them Brilliant 😀🇬🇧
Glad you like them!
AMPRO Engineering huge thanks!
Will your stand up back shocks and H arms work alongside this? I assume so....end of video confirmed I think
Oh yeah, totally!
So 3 years late, but is the double wishbone suspension still available?
LOL! Oh yeah, its all on shapeways. Link's in the description of the rear suspension build video, Episode 35
Did you ever make those king Blackfoot Front parts for that truck please comment back
Not yet. I havent gotten to it.
Hi there. I took screen shots of the item numbers for the shafts and pinion for Blackfoot that should be used for ReRe Brat etc. The numbers don’t get recognized online for the gear set to be used for Brat. Can you please put up the correct numbers I can cross reference for ReRe brat? Thanks.
They are correct, I just searched them:

Hi! I just upgraded my tamiya blackfoot. One problem I can't find the MIP leg bones. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So the CVD's that are needed come with the re-release BF or if you have an original (which it seems like you do) then you need to locate the Tamiya 53908 set that I go over at 18:30 in the video. MIP does not make these.
what type of diff would you recommend for a homemade konghead style build?
This one. It is the best and the only permanent solution.
Hi, Can you still get hold of this kit and ship to the UK ?
Yes, MIP still makes this and ships world wide.
Groovy tunes!
Thanks, I know the guys from Blue Pinto. Great group!
We're did u get the little metal rear shock arm supports...thanks nice vid
I am hoping that the next upgrade from MIP is universals.
AMPRO Engineering Sounds amazing!!!! I expect them to work better with full suspension than the Tamiya. That would simply and truely make the Monster Beetle a real runner! :-)
Oh yeah....that's the truth!
Confirm that the correct balls are in the correct spots. If there is still an issue, reach out to MIP. They have great cust service.
Nice channel! Subscribed.
Thank you!
I just ordered one. Thxs
Awesome! It is one of my favorite designs.
Can this be used only for re re? Or can it be used on vintage versions also? Thx
It was intended for the rere so for a vintage one you will need the rere axles, as I mention in the video. If you have a rere, then you are good to go.
@@AMPROEngineering yes, i eventually watched to the end. This is cool!
Hi just dug out my very old and beat up grass hopper.were can I get a upgrade parts list .thanks
Very cool! All upgrades are on my Shapeways page in the Grasshopper folder. Link to my store is in the description!
hi the thing i dont like about this mip diff is that these no upgrade parts like steel parts
and they say the screw in the middle goes lose over time is that right?
good video have u tamiya grease not mip grease they say its better
i'm not sure can u tell me thanks
No these are case hardened steel and the screw will never back out like old ones from the 80's. Carbide balls and precision CNC parts. MIP grease is designed for this application. Do not use Tamiya grease on it.
I have the Blackfoot from 1986 can I use this Diff also?
Thank you.
if you go to Amproengineering.com there will be a link to Shapeways. From there you can see the sections we have for those cars.
@@AMPROEngineeringOkay I will do
I have a Super Blackfoot from the early 90s, it has a different transmission that's all plastic.
I just bought one today because of the TH-cam videos and I don't even have a car for it yet :)
Haha! Well take it from me, if you don't have the MIP diff, you can't run the big wheeled ORV series. That diff was trash and caused me years of grief when I was a kid.
AMPRO Engineering I finally got one for Xmas and have been running it non stop. Diff is great but broke steering servo horn jumping it. Thx
For all the parts that you made so far for the Blackfoot what would it cost for all of those Parts please comment back thank you
Oh boy i dont know. the best thing to do is to add them to cart at Shapeways. You will get the exact prices.
great work and video's, just subbed glad for upgrades on tamiya vehicles and others . Thank you for the work.
Oh it is my pleasure!
What is your favorite Tamiya big wheel RC? AMPRO and everyone else? I want something fun.
the CW01
Never understood why Tamiya didn't step it up and remedy this problem decades ago. It's really sad on they're part. And yes I'm a tamiya fan through and through.
Honestly a solid diff like the Brat and Lancia had would have solved it. The Frog was the one that came out with the working diff. I am just glad MIP now has the final solution with their Ball Diff.
Just installed this diff and only here a beeping noise no drive any help would be great?
It sounds like something is binding. This differential is designed specifically for the black foot and not the frog or the other small wheeled variants. If you install this in one of those, the gears will not mesh correctly as I brought up in the video. If that is not the case, something else is preventing the gear train from turning. Double check your assembly
It just occurred to me that it's very easy to install the gear reversed which would bind the trans
Have you tried the diff in the Wild One? I have a Thorp diff in my Wild one from my old Blackfoot.
Thanks for the reply. You answered my question :) I am going to order the MIP for my Blackfoot. Keep up the good work on the videos.
What's the part number for the blackfoot cv shafts
Good question, there are three main parts to it, all with separate numbers but I would google "tamiya blackfoot CVD Universal". I cant wait for the MIP telescopic ones.
great video..!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I am wondering if you ever made the parts for the king BlackfootSo I can put in one big order for all of My RC car parts please comment back Please let me know thank you so very much for all of your video RC Cars and trucks thank you again bye now
Not yet. It will be up soon though.

Any idea what size/dimension those first 6 ball bearings are? I got the set and opened it and they all spilled all over the place. Of course, I found 5, but didn't find the sixth.
Oh gosh I dont know. Can you check them with a caliper?
@@AMPROEngineering I don't have calipers, but found a little hard white ball that seemed to be the same size. Fingers crossed it works.
I am considering this upgrade on my re release brat do I need the adjustable motor mount to run the monster beetle gearing thanks!
Josh Millington well it is not the Motor mourn that is the issue, the diff gear is not
Going to mate with the brat counter gear correctly. You need the monster beetle gear bag then you will be all set.
I ordered mines 2 days ago.
Awesome. This transformed the car for me
Hi my name is Ron I have a 2016 black foot I put in a mip super ball diff do I use a 16 tooth or a 10 tooth
As in pinion? I would use the one that came with it. It is the safest bet. I do not recall off hand what it came with but 10 sounds too small.
2016 black foot I put in a mip super ball diff black foot comes with a 10 tooth pinion gear do i use 10 tooth pinion gears or a 16 tooth pinion gears thanks again
Thank you
Sure thing!
When is Tamiya going to make something fast?
I'm waiting for something good. They haven't made anything competitive in a decade or more.
What are these tires?
Now that is a great question. They are some ancient Proline units from the late 1980's as far as I can tell. Hope that helps.
Great video, just subbed.
Well thanks Julian!
Why do they still use these shat gearboxes?
The gearbox was good until they put it in the black foot where the differential was just not capable of the loads exerted by the rotating mass of the wheels. Once you replace that with the MIP diff, the gearbox is solid.
1:00 => Quote from the Tamiya RC Handbook (published 1990) - Monster Beetle: "....differential of the highest grade...." ;_)
Oh yes....the HIGHEST. LOL!
They need to make hardened steel gears
They would wear too much. The nylon is excellent and does not get hot. They real issue is the lack of a slipper.
@@AMPROEngineering I Agree but disagree on using nylon they just disintegrate with brushless power using steels gears in my frog has fixed that problem
I just installed my MIP Diff and cant figure out why the upper gear moves side to side? Is that normal?it has a lot of play. Thanks
AMPRO Engineering I posted the video on you tube. Do you have bearings or bushings in your counter gear? This might be the problem
September 2017. Out of stock from MiP directly. Had to buy from Chinese seller on eBay. Hoping it's authentic. Will see when it gets here. Will need the cvd's next.
Yeah this was supposed to be a limited run. They know there is a back order and last I heard were going to make a new batch.
Y find peces for repair my monster bettle and find used peces for my black foot.
Yeah they are all the same fortunately.
That's why my Blackfoot is in storage
Exactly. This one sat in a box for nearly 20 years thanks to that stupid stock diff.
I find peces for my black foot What hobby shop has peces for my black foot.
I would say look on ebay. That's what i do.
Way overpriced
$60 is over priced? I sold my ancient Thorp diffs for $150 each after I bought a dozen of these. For engineered/manufactured in the USA with the best materials available, its dirt cheap.
