Dorothy Stevenson I get what you’re saying then again she now sees she’s losing herself and is suffering her dad has the right to be disappointed but not cut off his child he should’ve used this as another parenting moment college is hard you’re finding urself and like his dad her grandpa said he did the same shit but he wasn’t cut off. I think he should’ve listened to her and talked to her like an adult that she is Bc she clearly wants to do better she’s still finding herself that’s why this show is called Grownish you’re never really fully grown you’re just ish♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

MsCocoaBoo I see your point but I think the reason he cut her off is because he doesn’t have enough trust in her to keep funding her education in an environment that has corrupted her so much. While she realized she was changing, he found out about her drugs, boyfriend, and probation in one moment from different people and Zoey actively tried covering it up in his face. Plus while he did cheat, pops reaction to Luca clearly shows that she crossed some farther boundaries and based on Dre’s relationship with his dad in blackish he didn’t grow up with that kind of money and support. I feel that Dre believes that she needs her safety cushion removed so she can focus on her priorities.

Agreed. He basically created a monster. He praised her mercilessly and always put Junior down for not being as "cool" as she is. Cool kids in high who are click - y and can sometimes be shallow, a lot of them turn out to be beer guzzling party kids in college. I see those kids all the time at school. Zoey's to blame for her own actions, but Dre didn't help by putting her on a constant pedestal.

One criticism I have for this show so far is that it focuses too much on relationships in college. When I was in college (20 years ago) I was all about the books and pretty much nothing else. Having said that, I am happy to see Zoey getting this much needed dose of tough love. Better to get checked by your parents now than by the real world later........PLEASE believe the latter is far more unforgiving.

Its realistic. Which is why so many students struggle. Nothing wrong with having friends and dating, but the kids who did the best when I was in college were always reminding themselves and everyone else "I came here for my education!" Lol, would bring it up in arguments. Would repeat it to themselves after they got caught up in social drama.... but many students go to college and literally forget why they're there. I was specifically referring to the biological development of our minds. Our brains don't develop until we're 25, so a lot of our impulsivity, problem solving, and reasoning functions aren't 100% as an adolescent. It's why the most chilled, mild mannered, reasonable teenager does some crazy dumb things at some point. It's apart of growing up. That's Zoey's issue, she has a good value system, but struggles with impulsivity and reasoning. Basically what I'm saying is she lacks wisdom. Sorry to text book you lol

College is difficult and it’s not always as simple as just studying and when you’re surrounded by people who can just get by it’s hard to discipline yourself and focus on you. Tbh I thought it was harsh at first but then I forgot that she's been really disrespectful to her parents before and takes a lot of things for granted, I just think she needs to organize her life a bit more, she can party but she shouldn't make that the main importance if she can't keep up. She shouldn't be cheating especially! because if she got kicked out other colleges would have looked over her records anyways, tbh with how easy her parents are on her I would have made her get a paying job at least by 2nd semester of her freshman year just to make her more grateful. The only exception for any probation during school is if she had major depression or health problems. She's been insecure a lot and she's not doing things for her future, she's just been trying to impress everyone else this entire time. I think if she didn't lie to her dad so much then he would have been easier on her.

When he saw she was giving him tough love which really panged her then this whole new person started to emerge. He eventually graduated college summa cum laude double major in Engineering/Math. I think part of the reason why she is so spoilt is that Dre never showed or told her about the struggles he had to go through to be able to reach this far. This I'll teach her. I'm quite similar to Zoey with the exception of the over-reliance on parents and spoilt attitude. I'm from an affluent family, but I was alive when my parents were not so well off. We got kicked out of homes three times, lived in an uncompleted house with no electricity, no walls, no beds, nothing. My sis and I got to see the struggle before life got good for us. I'm a student at uni and it always hurts my soul when I ask my parents for money even when my dad was working(now retired)because I know that sweat and pain came out behind the cash flow. I make it up to them by studying hard and even working part time while in uni to not be too reliant on them. She has to learn to provide for herself, cause she will never learn how difficult life can get.

Honestly, this is good parenting. My mother would’ve done the same thing. The woman who raised me, worked so hard so that I could have more opportunities then she had and financially is paying my tuition out of pocket without any support, would cut me off so fast for living the kind of lifestyle Zoey has been living. It’s not about the boy (although the fact that he’s been freeloading in the apartment her father pays for is a factor) but the drugs, the Premium Liquor sitting in her cabinet, the weed, the designer clothing, the apartment... Her only job was to get good grades, don’t get arrested, (and I’m pretty sure this is unspoken) and don’t have a boyfriend freeloading off of money that isn’t yours. This financial independence will teach her the value of a dollar. Especially since her parents aren’t required to pay for her education. It’s a privilege and a gift and she shouldn’t have taken advantage of it.

So you mean to tell me it took you 19 years to make a monster and your response is to walk away from the monster you created and tell them to become a human being on your f****** own?
Yes, Zoey should have to get a part-time job. No, Zoe should not be getting money directly anymore. Give me a list of groceries and stuff you need and I'll have instacart send that s*** over. This. This is the only sensible comment. Splurging too much is always bad, even if it's your own money. Where has she learnt this from? Dre literally put everything on a gold plate and handed it to her. And now all of a sudden he remembers that she's spoilt? When you pay attention he gets angry when he sees Luca... Like wtf. Your dad brings women half his age in your home and that's alright, but her boyfriend makes him angry. About cheating, his father told the truth right there. And for the fact that dre didn't had all these amenities, yes. Because his family couldn't afford at all. Her family can, dre is the person from who she learnt to be this extravagant. He buys an expensive car for his mom like it's a t shirt. First he spoiled her and now he's blaming her

Times have changed since our parents' day. "Putting yourself through college" on an entry-level paycheck is almost impossible. To say nothing of the time crunch. As it is, Zoey's already struggling with some of her classes. What she needs is some tutoring, not an extra job on top of the job-and-a-half that is college. I HOPE this situation doesn't last long--and I hope Zoey doesn't have to go into debt to pay for school. Indentured servitude is a harsh decades-long sentence to pay for a "youthful indiscretion". It seems like Zoey had already resolved to mend her ways, and she probably would have with a little counseling.

Zoey has been incredibly selfish lately, and doesn’t realize it until it’s too late. But the worst part of it is, no one is helping her out either?? Everyone has been absorbed into their own thing this season, and watching Zoey drown in a crisis she’s having. Not once have I seen anyone tell her she needs to grow up, and get her act together like last season. All I’ve seen is the twins turn their backs on Zoey because one of them had problems with their man and kept snapping at her. Even Luca is kind of not even really helping, I know you can’t always prevent your friends down world spirals. But I feel like you could throw a life raft? Idk who was writing this season, but they honestly made everyone in this season selfish as fuck. Especially since everyone has been NOTICING Zoey drowning, but not even helping.
