- Quickly breaking down the main points of Japan's fifth historical era: the Nara Period (710 CE - 794 CE)! This video is aimed at people who want a simple and broad overview of Japanese history, as well as those who want a quick and easy way to brush up on what they already know. Topics covered include the moving of the capital to Nara, the implementation of the Taika Reforms, the problems with the Ritsuryō tax system, and a quick summary of the era's major political players and events.
Check out a more detailed exploration of the Nara Period here:

Main video music:
Otowabi ( / @otowabi )
(Sadly the creator of this music seems to have taken down their website, but their awesome Japanese-style tracks can still be found on their TH-cam page that I've linked.)
Intro and outro beats by me, with some samples used.

1. As a teacher I know how difficult it is to condense information, so these videos are really impressive.
2. Subtitles are a great idea to understand complex things in a short time and are really helpful for non native English speakers viewers.
Good job, as always!
Thanks! Trying to formulate my plan of attack for condensing the info in these short videos is always a mix of fun and frustrating, so I really appreciate the positive feedback 😁
Always excited to see you upload new content. Even though you already covered the Nara Period, having a bite-sized refresher like this is still fun to watch!
Feuding with the Four Fujiwara Brothers sounds like a dope side quest for a Yakuza game lol
Great vid!
you're back! looking forward to see how you cover sengoku period
No more procrastinating, Sengoku is next!
I'm actually going to begin work on retelling the stories of the Former Nine Year's War and your videos on them have been extremely helpful. Plus, you're my go-to guy when I want to brush up on my general Japanese history. I'm very interested in pre-Heian Japan and this little review of the Nara period is great. Keep up the good work.
I’m personally looking forward to this! 👍🏻☺️
I look forward to seeing what you do with the stories! Subbed!
Well, I say "retelling," but more specifically I'm translating the story from the Konjaku Monogatari Shu in my own words. I would do the Later Three Year's War but the version in the Konjaku Monogatari Shu has apparently been lost to time. Also, thank you both for the support.
The king is back! Thank you for gracing us with another banger video
Adamさんお久しぶり短い動画も好きです。I’m glad there is a new video even the short videos are really good
Thanks man 🙏 I know they’re not as exciting as the long ones but I’m glad you’re enjoying them!
Thank you ! I can only imagine the work going into these videos, both for the graphics and the very smooth narration. Thank you very much indeed.
Always love more content. 😁👍
It's great to see new videos! It's always a great adventure. Regards from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Sweet. 🤗
Superb work!
Nice video, very educating:D
It’s about time for the Sengoku Period my friend
I appreciate how much work you devote to making this fascinating history accessible to us in the west.
Gracias
A topic you could cover is the relation between japan and the "southern barbarians" the Nanban. Going over the Portuguese, English and Dutch, maybe even the americans?
That would definitely be a cool topic… I will add it to the ever-growing list!
