Nintendo forced the change. Nintendo was very hands off in Japan, but they were very strict about their content in Europe and North America. These subsidiaries often even censored their own games.
That violin hook is just a lovely touch. All of these compositions and re-renderings are so fucking solid. What a one-of-a-kind atmosphere this game has.
I remember when I didn't know you could do that and had to straight run the gauntlet, without ducking. made the stage way harder, and luck was a factor.
this is definitely one of the very best BGMs I've heard from any game but then again Super Castlevania IV had arguably one of the best original scores for a game
Playing this for the first time, this stage took me 3 days to beat, probably around 60-75 tries. It’s not even THAT hard, it’s just unforgiving, no room for mistakes. I’m thankful that the stage has the best track in the game until now kept me entertained while while I died repeatedly!
I love the way the effects at 0:33 move slowly from left speaker to right and back (listen with headphones for the full effect). It makes you feel the same way this level did: surrounded, uneasy, and fearful. Easily my favorite track.
In the Japanese Version of this Game is this Stage full of Blood, in the American and European it's full of deadly Acid. Seriosly, why they changed it? Blood fits perfectly!
Its only because u played this game so often and was thinking ok this set is perfect. But try to imagine a torture chamber with blood?! It is kinda better^^
Early SNES games and their soundtracks dared to push the envelope. This was, and still is, one of them! Yeah this upload is 12 years old, but classic game OSTs never grow old. They age like a fine wine. Thank you, to the OP.
@@andylabardy242 That they were. I own a Sega Genesis 'Mini' console....40-something games on it, and I played Landstalker in 2020. Love that soundtrack. The 1990s was a heck of a time for video game music.
In the Japanese version, this stage had a lot of blood in various places; the lakes were red blood lakes, and the crushing spikes were covered in blood.
Playing this on the Wii; it's around this point the game's Difficulty Curve really ramps up! & after hearing this track too many times really rams home that implication!
I love how bleak and dark this track sounds, and then at 1.00 you get that emotional sounding part. This track is an example why the people who claim games such as Castlevania Bloodlines or Dracula X are better are just flat out wrong. Super castlevania just builds so much more atmosphere.
Personally dunno about Dracula X, but Castlevania Bloodlines IS good(a really good ost also); just that this game's ost is a whole awesomely unique beast!
I got stuck for awhile at the first castle level, but once I beat it, I quickly breezed through to the clock tower level and after a few tries, got stuck on the last level and only came back later to complete the game.
It reminds me when I reached this level for the first time... I was 17 and despite being kinda scared I got through it and beat at the first try... I never been so proud about myself... the only part that speeded up my heart was the final bridge before the frankenstein boss..
Wow, that... the-... The super nintendo could play this? This sounds like an actual recording of an orchestra. I mean... I knew the SNES' sound chip was capable of a lot, but hot damn this soundtrack is god tier among SNES games.
Snes had a very primitive sampling capability. So you could record actual sounds and put them in the game. But there were heavy limitations. The longer notes you hear are sounds that are looped so tightly to the point that they're seamless. But they are ultimately very short sounds. Still it was that technique that made a lot of Snes games sound the way they do. Since drums don't need too last long, you can record them in higher detail...
To me, this track sounds like it came from a late 70s early 80s Horror movie. I am reminded of the music from the opening sequence of 'Dawn Of the Dead.'
im currently stuck on this stage due to those FUCKING SPIKES!!! i cant get past it. however i have gotten past it in the past when i was like 8 im 23 now and cant get past this damn stage!! go figure!!!
chris conrad JESUS CHRIST THOSE SPIKES! If this music wasn't so good I would've rage quitted when I got to those spikes from hell raining down on me, throwing me all over the god damn place!
You mean the one with those annoying flying eyeballs that drops fireballs and that invisible bridge? Oh my god, I hate it with a passion, especially with the triple shot crosses, one fuck up and you're screwed. Oh and when you reach frankenstein, i'd recommend staying to the far left and spam whatever subweapon you have hoping that he dies before you do.
chris conrad Still baffles me why spikes cause instant death in this game, the same reason why water kills you instantly in simon's quest. Atleast in sotn that doesn't happen, but it does take a huge chunk of your health away tho.
This soundtrack is very sad because there are hanged skeletons with chains at the background Those skeletons were people, not like skeletons that throw bones
American and European versions - Green Acid
Japanese version - Blood
That's why the Japanese version is far superior
And that’s why I prefer to play the Super Castlevania 4 uncensored hack.
Blood is more creepy, sure. But acid makes more sense. It kills you. It is a bit more realistic.
@Noncehub Perhaps blood contains pathogens that could put potential harm on your health.
Nintendo forced the change.
Nintendo was very hands off in Japan, but they were very strict about their content in Europe and North America. These subsidiaries often even censored their own games.
One of my favorite tracks of the entire game. This level was about patience, you rushed, you died.
Except the very last part. The dissapearing blocks were more or less russian roulette.
Agree
That violin hook is just a lovely touch. All of these compositions and re-renderings are so fucking solid.
What a one-of-a-kind atmosphere this game has.
I don't know why, but I always liked hearing this music while Simon was duck-walking under the moving spikes;
it just felt cool for some reason.
I remember when I didn't know you could do that and had to straight run the gauntlet, without ducking. made the stage way harder, and luck was a factor.
I always think the same. XD
Very tribal, very creepy, very looming, very awesome.
Oh my God yes, those drums dude!
reminds me of my childhood! awesome
Above all
Very good !!
Omg that's so true the most underrated soundtrack!!🔥
Foreboding is the word.
this is definitely one of the very best BGMs I've heard from any game but then again Super Castlevania IV had arguably one of the best original scores for a game
And the music was produced by the SNES sound processor. Its not streamed. Super impressive! The SNES has the best sound chip of any console! Fact!
ouhh..this level was soooooo hard...
Tell me about it
One of the hardest in the game
Giant floaty eyeballs with drippy blood..acid..spikey traps..sigh such a great game..dark brooding tribal-ish music.. underated soundtrack and game
Let's be honest, the only hard part about this level is the disappearing tiles where the creature boss is.
The green droplet and the green water were deadly!
If you would've told me today that this soundtrack came from video game music back '91 I would've never believed you!!
This game has the best music :)
Of all videos I've ever played.
This track shows how ahead Castlevania was for it’s time. Best game remake ever
This song has literally lived rent free in my head for 30 years
Pure majestic track.
This track is freaking awesome, this game has one of the best video game soundtracks of all time in my opinion
A perfect 'n unforgettable game. Those skeletons shaling on the walls along with this song were awesome.
Playing this for the first time, this stage took me 3 days to beat, probably around 60-75 tries. It’s not even THAT hard, it’s just unforgiving, no room for mistakes. I’m thankful that the stage has the best track in the game until now kept me entertained while while I died repeatedly!
The eyeballs were the leading cause of death for me in this level
Tears of pain
Man i still cant believe how awesome this game/music was..this was and still is a Rare combination that you rarely get out of games today!!!
Julius Cirkel It's because Nintendo was much more restrictive with their censoring outside of Japan.
+Julius Cirkel IMO Acid's better since it's it's a torture chamber that's also a lab.
Its only because u played this game so often and was thinking ok this set is perfect.
But try to imagine a torture chamber with blood?! It is kinda better^^
They also removed all crucifixes in the game and some blood in the title screen.
Because censoring
Listen to all the sounds in the background. Best one of all.
Absolutely awesome soundtrack, and this is one of the best tunes on it. Hard to believe this was made in 1991.
Those damn disappearing platforms. That was the worst part.
I'll be tackling that blasted disappearing bridge on Wednesday night. Pray for my survival.
Amo a percussão dessa música. Como ela se casa perfeitamente com o sintetizador e o piano.
É uma maravilha de ouvir em loop!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pretty much like something from Aztec culture. Badass.
Really??!
Huh...................................................................
thanks for the valuable info, sir ;)! Lol
This songs makes me think of Riptor from Killer Instinct for some reason xD
Lol. Jungle rhythm
The first night I played this game, this stage was as far as I got. I beat it the next day.
I had to skip it via passwords... After I beat the rest of the game, then I was FINALLY able to beat this one... T_T
its so good...
The vanishing platforms of hell.

Yes hardest level for sure loved this music too it
more lives and cruse words were used in this level then i care to admit but i always loved the music so it kinda evened out. thanks for the upload!!
This 16bit game had the most insanely creative and original chip music ever.
For 1991, this piece sounds foreboding.
This is the best music from the game.
This level was the bane of my life
*Exciting and scary to play this level!*
Oh man, the game is great and the OST is fantastic.
I need like ten hours or 48 hours of this song on loop
the best song in the game!
Probably the most frustrating fucking level in the whole game
I used to name this stage as the "Dungeons and Catacombs".
Makes me think of zombies getting down at the club.
This is where hell started for me
93bendzsi And it only got worse, seeing as how the Tresury was worse than the Torture Chamber by far.
This music and stage appears in the second castlevania on the n64 with music included.Wasnt too hard but it did have some difficult parts.
In the Japanese version, this stage had a lot of blood in various places;
the lakes were red blood lakes, and the crushing spikes were covered in blood.
Sounds aesthetically Castlevania to me ;)............
And certain parts of the stage dripped blood from ceilings.
_All of this can hurt Simon._
i hear this music when my sister get's in from school -_-
AudioXVNVX LMAO, good one
***** haha seriously!
This is a perfect theme for a ex manager from a job I use to work at
Playing this on the Wii; it's around this point the game's Difficulty Curve really ramps up! & after hearing this track too many times really rams home that implication!
Song reminds me of the music from the pit stage in MK 1.
Love that track
Who hears the shaking sceletor even the sound is not in the track 😆
Freakin masterpiece
Putting my son on to a good retro ost. Classic

this really feels like your in a dungeon.
Accurate tune for the exact scenario ;)! Hehehe
....Fascinante, nostálgico e invaluable....
The epic sound of Playtime is Over! Time to put up or shut up.
(accidentally scrapes one of the spike traps, even if it's not moving)
*INSTANT DEATH*
Always think of the scratchy chain spike sounds

Listen to Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues OST. Snes had an amazing sound system.
This one made my bass speaker kick and windows vibrated. ... As others said, this is dark tribal -ish...! turn that bass up!
I always thought this Sounds like some Sim Cain style drumming. Love Song from Hard Volume
I will still die 5 times on this stage to this day AT LEAST
Play an original SNES Castevania 4 cartridge on a Retrofreak game console then ;)..........
U could argue that very point for most of the old school Castlevania games, tbh...............
The hardest part on this stage is the disappearing blocks at the end;
that section will never become "easy", it will just become "more manageable".
A ship through a sea of blood would be a great title for this song
Spooky and the level was a pain in the ass
best music in the game
+Mysterious Maximus
absolutely but this is truly my fave track,it goes so well with what you're going thru on the stage, love this game

Reminds me of Castlevania 64 music.
True. Just hearing this music makes me remember how many times I died on this stage.
Tool must have played this game growing up. Check out the song Reflection on the album Lateralus!
It's probably the theme for the gates of hell, this is brutal!
Nice song.
So so good
This could be a Radiohead track.
scram
more like Tool song
greenGrass Tool Reflection
I wonder how this would sound if someone managed to add the missing part from its prototype version, but with this version's instruments.
só quem tem cultura conhece!
I agree. Very majestic indeed man. 😊🎧🎵🎶
Two fuckin words: VANISHING BRIDGE
Felt it
Looks like you are the science guy now
Tortura de chamba
xD

Reached this stage after beating Sir Graskull( the knight), but could never beat the torture chamber. Talk about pure torture.

This probably where most people backed out of the game because of the spikes. Insta-kill everywhere. One wrong move and it's off to the cemetery.
