Lens blur is awesome! I tried it on a photo of my son at Scout camp where he was surrounded by four other boys. With a very shallow DoF I was able to blur three of them in-camera, but not the unknown boy at his side. Using lens blur in Lightroom, I blurred this other boy -- and it worked so well it looks natural, making the boy appear closer to the camera and naturally out of focus.

Thank you for this video. Sometime in the future can you discuss how the HDR feature might impact editing for printing? I struggle with editing because I'm colorblind, so I tend to be very conservative with my changes for fear of creating unrealistic looking images and not even knowing it.

I didn't know SDR and HDR were differentiated. I thought you'd have to go through the tech specs and figure it out for yourself. Learned something there. I now know what they stand for. It'd be nice if there were a dedicated app that would show the gamut capability of your monitor. This was a very good and exciting review!

Anthony demonstrates and discusses three main changes to Lightroom Classic (LrC): 1:25 - Lens blur; 5:40 - Color Mixer (Point Color); 10:24 - HDR Output (monitor). And promises a future video on the lesser new features and more in depth treatment of Monitor HDR output. The introduction mentions new lens and tethering support.
To me, it does not look like this "major release" changes anything to Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). While Adobe keeps version numbering between ACR and LrC in sync, raising the version number of ACR doesn't seem justified, in this case.
Which gets me to my pet peeve: the quality of ACR's raw processing. Adobe added the optional "AI Denoise" that is especially beneficial to raw images from cameras without OLPF (aka AA filter), but AI Denoise does not address detail loss or detail recovery or prevention of the generation of other digital artefacts than noise. (The noise implied here as well as the artefacts are from failed raw processing.)

Great video Anthony, like always. This new PS-ish blur tool capability looks extremely useful and makes me wonder if Adobe is working to beef up LR so much that they can break the connection between LR & PS, so they can charge a higher premium for PS. Regarding the HDR monitor button, when you do the additional video on it, it would be very helpful to know of a way to determine on which side of the fence one's monitor sits, SDR or HDR. Thanks for all.

One other new feature in the cloud version of Lightroom that Adobe added, and Terry White covered it in a recent video, is that you don't have to work in the cloud if you don't want to. If you want to sync photos to the cloud you can, but if not and you want to work offline, like the regular Lightroom Classic, you can too. You can also copy photos from the Cloud, or pull them down from the cloud back to your hard drive.

Hello. Very interesting video as I recently came across these tools on my own last week. I used the HDR functions with differing degrees of success. My camera is my old, trusty Nikon d5200 and am iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have a current M2 Pro MacBook Pro laptop and was wondering if that screen meets Adobe's criteria for HDR. I also look forward to maybe a fuller tutorial on that specific feature. Thanks!!

  • @SolFaithman
    @SolFaithman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Anthony, great video as always. Have you had any issues applying the blur feature to images that are already edited? I'm finding that as soon as I try it on edited images which have masks applied to them my PC instantly jumps to 100% processor usage and Lightroom goes into "not responding" mode. Seems to works fine on unedited photos but seems to really struggle on anything that has already been edited.
Edit - to add, I just had an instance of the 100% cpu usage so I left it to its own devices for a while and it eventually settled down to normal. I opened the basic tab and went to adjust the highlights as a random test and again, instantly to 100% cpu usage. As soon as I click away to an unedited image in the film strip, everything calms down again!
Edit 2 - there is something definitely going on with later version of LrC. V13 has literally become unusable on my PC so I rolled the version back to 12.2.1, pre all the AI stuff being added in like noise reduction etc.....works like a charm, no issues what so ever!!!

Was very slow to display my pictures (Sony A7r5 panorama dng files) and was more rapid to open them with PS in order to visualise them. Could only see them in low resolution for several minutes before the full resolution was displayed. When I went to another picture and came back the same picture it happened again. Working on a MacAir M1 16 GB Ram. Does anyone have the same problems for this configuration ?
    Maybe related to the M1?
So will have to wait to 13.x or so ?

I upgraded to Version 13.0 today and now my AI Denoise doesn't work. Just loads and loads and loads. Anyone else have this issue?

Saves us peasant having to sell a kidney for a f2.8 ....Lens blur saves the day. You can now shoot blindfolded on a camera from the 1800's next to someone with a canon R3 and it's not going to make any difference 😂😂

In continental W/NW Europe, 12 hours after the release of Anthony's video, Adobe's software distribution algorithm and my "Creative Cloud Desktop" app that manages downloads and updates still report that 12.5 is the latest version. US-America first. I can wait, that's not the point, but it seems that the software distribution is a bit retarded (in the way it was set up).

I was hoping Adobe would improve the performance speed of the recently added Denoise to something like Topaz manages, but instead they introduce more adjustments that take an age to work.
    Disappointed :-(

Dont really care about features. I just want the performance better without having to buy a 2500$ computer that ends up sluggish a year later.

1:25 minutes of monotonous nothing before starting. At least put chapters that we can go to what really matters.

    I have an important question.
Sony A7 IV has added an update to ver. 3.00
The question is whether this version supports RAW files from Sony.
Lots of pastries and complaints about their decrees.
Does anyone have this camera and LRm in the new version?
