Man I can't believe that Nedum still defending Manchester City. The fact that, they are in a serious bad spell at the moment. So much so, that Pep has no answer for it, because he wasn't in this position before. And that's the problem, because a wise man once said, when you on top, there's someone to knock you down. And that's exactly what's happening to Manchester City right now, they so acustom to winning, that when they lose this amount of games, they can't deal with it.
He has been in the position before and it was as close as last season. Read my comment on this forum. The same things have been happening when mid-field has been underperforming. And there is no midfield right now (very weak).
Could have easily been more than 5-0 to be honest if Liverpool had been a bit more clinical. Salah missed an easy goal which normally he would have scored, VVD's 3 headers, Jones' goal, Gakpo's second attempt, Nunez's attempts. As good as Liverpool was, they need to be more clinical.
Why have none of these experts mentioned the fact that most of the city players are shattered, they’ve had 4 seasons where they have dominated the premier league, and it doesn’t last forever.
I think it was a mistake bringing back Gundo. They needed someone that was going to replace KDB (Phil is no KDB) to at least be able to provide the creativity they need. Sure, Rodri was a blow, but they really need someone to create opportunities. Defending could be dealt with by inserting whomever back there, but that lack of creativity is hindering City a lot. Also, Walker gotta go bye bye. He can’t defend anymore.
For people that are saying . “Oh city are gonna be back, dont write them off” Truth is city has never been out of form like this conceding too many goals and not even scoring . And yes they may find their form again . But it’s really Liverpool title to lose at this point .
They have been out of form as close as last season, but only for a shorter time. Read my longer comment on this forum. But, I agree this dip is the longest and most remarkable one.
They won’t be winning the league but they’ll easily finish top 4. This isn’t like previous seasons. I’m sure they’ll win against Forest and the results will get better but this isn’t a team that will go on a 15 game winning streak. Even last year when they had their annual dip, they were grinding out results, even if it was draws, they didn’t look resigned like they do. The team needs a refresh. This is like Liverpool 22/23 when the midfield legs were gone.
That chart saying it’s “worst” doesnt say much because its only in comparison to past seasons.. those numbers are still better than most teams lool just saying
The mistake was he often doesn’t use his full substitutions. Nearly every match he has made less substitutes than his opponent this season. Premier league schedule with European matches and internationals is too demanding for that. He is the type of manager that sees the shape looks good and doesn’t tinker much when ahead. Now his players are battered and look tired.
Pep and the City hierarchy probably knew they needed to bring in some quality players over the last two summers but they have hardly spent anything. I think the club is saving money in order to be able to pay what might be a few hundred million in fines from the ffp.
This season has proven to me that Phil Foden has been a system player all along. Doesn’t take games on by himself, doesn’t really nail down any position. Has 1 goal contribution in the league and it’s December. When the system fails he fails.
Pep likes to do these stupid hybrid like positions with his players and atm the players look like they dont know what they are supposed to be doing or where to be. That was evident against Liverpool, the players all looked lost.
Liverpool fan and I'm telling you City are gonna turn this on it's head, starting tomorrow.. they won't win the league.. but they'll finish with 85+ pts.. i gaurantee you.
Pep always puts out of position players in the wrong position and come out to say how thd opposition were better. Lewis winger , Nunes winger while Savinho, Doku Greslish on the bench.
Alex is too carried away with emotions and strong statements. I know that this is sports show and they need some spice for it to be entertaining. But, ESPN analysis is definitely not the best from the technical point of view. Guardiola is not a problem. Read my (longer) comment on the forum.
I agree and disagree with Ale Moreno and other these days critics of MCI with high emotions. First of all, this is not the first time when City is showing "surprising" dip in performance and conceding goals (defend) like a "mid-table team" or worse. Go back to last season and, at about the same time, with Rodri only missing, they have been battered by Aston Villa (at Villa Park) and they could have lost 4:0, 5:0 easily. Just have been lucky to lose by 1 goal to nil. This is an attack-minded team that play on a foundation of a strong mid-field and mid-field pivots/pace-setters/playmakers like Fernandinho,David Silva and now Rodri. Without such a person both the attack and defense suffer enormously. I also really do not know what is the plan and if Pep has plan B and is ready to switch to it. NO/WEAK MID-FIELD = a disaster for ManCity and everything crumbles and completely out of tune like now. They have had a period last year when they had been conceding 2,3,4 goals in matches against TOT, CHE, Wolves, Palace. They barely pulled off the game with Luton (relegated) last year (1:2) at Luton town.
So what you’re saying is the team was already showing cracks last season and the powers that be at the club should have seen this coming and their recruitment was poor and now they can’t fix it this season because it’s too late. This screams of poor management BTS. It happened to Liverpool in 22/23. They didn’t plan ahead for the midfield and thought their aging midfield was good enough to keep going another season and they had to rebuild the following season. The “dip” they had last season in December was 3 draws and a loss even when results weren’t convincing. Not 4 losses in a row. They also have NEVER been this far behind before, not even in the season Liverpool ran away with the league. They won’t win the league this year. But I don’t think they’re finished like Ale says. They’ll pick up some results now.
@@kd5973 Exactly. The club decided to make/save some money by selling and not reinvesting. Therefore, this is deeper and longer setback so that it costs already EPL and UCL. Securing top-4 is a priority. I would scrap UCL and FA (send the academy team) altogether in favor for the squad (already depleted) to stay fit. Yes, hunt for good personnel is even a bigger priority if they want to stay competitive. Walker, Bernardo Silva (and KDB?) wanted to leave back last year and even 2 yrs ago (like Mahrez, Gundogan did). They are not motivated anymore. KDB will never (unfortunately) recover from now on and it is best to play him last 20-25 min. Academy yield is 10% at best and they already sold Palmer. And I have no idea what is going on with Foden. So the "dip" is indeed more serious. I do not know if Pep/club has a plan. I do not see (so far)) plan B. This is an attack minded team and strategy. They do not know how to play other versions. "Parking the bus" also requires some skills and proper mindset.
They have had dips of similar nature (last season for example at about the same time). This is just deeper and lasts much longer. See my expanded comment on the forum.
