      Goto do that as an Operation Lifesaver Presenter.
      8-mm videoed grade crossing behaviors athe many grade crossings between Goleta (Santa Barbara) and San Diego.
      As the train approached the Taylor Street crossing in Old Town at 59 mph (49 mph?), a Mexican-looking grandma ignored the mee-mool lights *(o)T(o)* and gates and crossed the track. Camcorder frame-by-frame shows that she stepped off the westrack 2.9? seconds before the locomotive arrived at her spot.
      She had timed perfectly! Of course, had she tripped and fallen, her death would have been in myideo.

    Do locomotives have a gauge to tell you whether the locomotive is on an incline or decline or do you get that information from the locomotive speeding up or slowing down?

    • @thomasdupee1440
      @thomasdupee1440 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There is no such gauge on a locomotive. An engineer has to qualify on the route before he's permitted to run on the line. The grades, curves, bridges, signal locations, rules and special instructions, etc. are observed and noted during qualification.

    • @thomasdupee1440
      @thomasdupee1440 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The locomotive independent brake should always be released during an application of automatic train brakes. This allows the engineer to control slack through the train.

    • @k2stack
      @k2stack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      applying the automatic starts a braking process that puts the brake shoes on the wheels, starting at the lead engine and eventually to the entire train, bailing the independent keeps the shoes off of the engines wheels only allowing them to roll freely

      @@MrATL27 well the balance is what you make it there is an extremely high divorce rate amongst people who travel on freight trains for work. During my earlier years on the RR some of my coworkers would have boats only to wind up selling them because the weren't home enough to enjoy them on the other hand there were those who could not work enough and even tried to work their vacation had no use for personal days just had to work work work. I doubt if anyone could paint the picture better than you could actually experience it for yourself. On the RR you enjoy the moment but maybe not the whole thing ...Its a job and the company will make sure the workforce knows that. The way I summed it up in my head is when I couldn't see light at the end of the tunnel I resigned to believe that I still would make it through and just because I saw light didn't mean I had it made. I know I'm all over the place with this but that is the reality of the RR and everyone's experience is different. I had many days that couldn't wait to go to work and I had many days that just didn't think I could go to work another day...Again I thank God for the RR and that He got me through.
