Here Is information on the five women singing in this version of First Burn. They have all played Eliza. Lexi Lawson played her on Broadway from July 9, 2016 - Oct. 28, 2018. She replaced Phillipa Soo when Phillipa left (and if you look at the date she started, it was 2 or 3 weeks after the filming of the version that came out of Disney Plus. Arianna Afsar was the original Eliza in the Chicago company starting Sept. 27, 2016 and left March 25, 2018. She did a brief return the weekend of May 19, 2018 performing the role on the Philip Tour (which was the 2nd national tour). Shoba Narayan was the original Eliza in the Philip Tour and performed with that company from Feb. 2018 - February 3, 2019. Rachelle Ann Go was the original Eliza in the London/West End company. She was in the role from Dec. 6, 2017 - Dec. 2019. Julia Harriman was the second Eliza on the Angelica Tour (1st national tour) and was with that company from Jan 6, 2018 - Jan. 5, 2020. I've seen Hamilton on stage nine times in five cities. The casts have all been exceptionally high quality. Alex is the musical director, co-arranger (with Lin-Manuel Miranda), and orchestrator for Hamilton. He won the 2016 Tony Award for his orchestration of Hamilton. He also won the 2008 Tony Award for orchestration which he shared with co-orchestrator, Bill Sherman, for Lin-Manuel Miranda's first Broadway show, "In the Heights." He again won the 2017 Tony Award for his orchestration of Dear Evan Hansen. Alex has an interesting background with hearing loss that was diagnosed when he was three. He did a mash-up of The Story of Tonight and You Will Be Found that Lin and Ben sang together for the Parkland shooting survivors and a beautiful version of Only Us sung by Ben Levi Ross and Taylor Trensch.

The other puts me in mind of a quote from The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss in which Vashet says to Kvothe, "You are clever, and charming, and a liar. I know you can bend the world with your words. So I will not listen." That quote isn't even in a romantic context, but I feel it fits perfectly.
I like to think this is Eliza’s initial reaction when she heard the news. The original burning rage in her heart and mind. And then she took some time, collected herself and didn’t give Alexander and the world the satisfaction of knowing she is that hurt. I, personally, think the version in the show more fits the character built up. Even in her rage she stays composed and quiet. Sometimes a quiet rage is more impactful in the long run than explosive “burns”.

This is the original version of Burn. It wasn't supposed to be sung by multiple Elizas in the musical, they just did it like this for the video to showcase all the different actresses that played her. :) Hope you do Congratulations next!
Somehow I ended up watching a bunch of reaction videos to this song. This has been my favorite so far. Your excitement makes me remember why I love musical theater.
Wooh 8 months late but just found this song so now I have to watch EVERYONES reaction to it. The line "I can't be trusted around you" makes me feel like she still loves him so much and if he were to get close he could charm his way back to her and she's not sure she would be strong enough at that point and end up forgiving him despite what he put her through. So she knows she has to keep him at a distance because she's mad and she wants him to know what he did can not be forgiven.
This was the original version that they edited because Lin decided it didn’t match Eliza’s nature to be that aggressive towards him. I like both because on one hand, she’s still clinging to hope, and on the other... well, you know the saying “Demons run when a good man goes to war?” Yeah.
There's an AMAZING animatic for this song by Ziksua, it makes me cry every single time. It just takes everything and puts it to a visual crescendo. Definitely check it out!!

I love this version of Burn, but the version in the musical is best for it. Eliza isn’t seething with anger, she’s just, disappointed, but knows how to hurt Hamilton best. It’s like when your mom says “I’m not mad, just disappointed...” It’s worse in a way than anger. Alex probs would’ve preferred her to just yell at him like this, but she didn’t. She doesn’t need to be throwing punches to show her anger. That isn’t her. It also would’ve made her forgiving Hamilton so soon a bit awkward lol. This is a fast fire but the other is a longer, slower, more seething burn.
They were all Elizas I believe. This was a version of Burn before they finalized the one in the show. I actually prefer this version. Their voices are phenomenal together.

She wants Hamilton to stay away from her because she wants to hold on to her anger ("Don't take another step in my direction), the anger she knows would easily subside just by her husband's coaxing through words. I love this song so much! I used to compete in pageants during the same time as Arianna here in California and I'm so happy to see her success. Congratulations is soo good, you should definitely consider doing a reaction to it.
"you enemy whispers so you have to SCREAM" is how Hamilton reacts to every insult/critique that his enemies throw at him, and that no matter how small/petty they are he always feels the need to respond with something bigger. Like how "the reynolds pamphlet" is a scream compared to some rumors whispered by his haters. Especially since by publishing them, he had made his family a laughingstock to the public and torn his family apart.

So, im late but had to comment. I love this version, but it doesn't work on the stage as well... we see Eliza on stage having her moment on stage, alone, devastated...this version is a direct conversation with Hamilton as she roasts the shit out of him... but in like, 4 songs she's supposed to forgive him, so it would be hard to move her emotionally if this is where we think her mindset is. Burn (on stage) leaves her at "we will move on, because we can do nothing else, but we won't be the same. Now sleep in your office." Loved this & subbed!
Btw top deleted songs to listen to (should listen to them all really they're so good!!) But my faves are Let it Go, original Adams Administration, Congratulations and Ten things, One thing... they all give me chills!!
aaah i love this song and your reaction to it! your energy is infectious! also, you are SUCH a good singer, and your lyrical analysis was great! i believe this was just the first version of "burn." personally, i love both songs equally, but i get why people might like this one better. i just think "burn" is better for the musical because eliza's anger in this would make the transition to the forgiveness in "it's quiet uptown" less realistic, plus the line about her erasing herself from the narrative is much more impactful in the regular "burn." if lin kept this in the musical instead of "burn," he would have had to make parts of the musical different for it to fit seamlessly with the other songs.

Yes they are all different Elizas from the different shows, I'm not familiar with where everyone is from except for Rachel which is the original West End actress for Eliza.

Eliza dont over think the "reacting" part. Its a huge deal in the songs because her letters and hamiltons letter were never found. Some say she burned it some say its still hidden somewhere. So no one truly knew how she reacted to this whole debacle XD

Hamilton left out "first burn" and replaced it with "burn" because he believe eliza wouldnt have admitted those feelings she had and knowing about hamilton and angelica. she's very reserved, so her calling hamilton out wouldn't of happened

Especially since by publishing them, he had made his family a laughingstock to the public and torn his family apart.

Great reaction Doctor Disney. Can’t wait for you to do Congratulations. I too wished that this was in the play but after listening to both First Burn and Burn multiple times I understand why Burn was the one they went with. I think Burn fits better with the play and Eliza’s character.

In the play I wish when Eliza was singing burn that hamilton was there to witness it and her sing it to his face would have made me feel better lol
So, im late but had to comment. I love this version, but it doesn't work on the stage as well... we see Eliza on stage having her moment on stage, alone, devastated...this version is a direct conversation with Hamilton as she roasts the shit out of him... but in like, 4 songs she's supposed to forgive him, so it would be hard to move her emotionally if this is where we think her mindset is. Burn (on stage) leaves her at "we will move on, because we can do nothing else, but we won't be the same. Now sleep in your office." Loved this & subbed!

aaah i love this song and your reaction to it! your energy is infectious! also, you are SUCH a good singer, and your lyrical analysis was great! i believe this was just the first version of "burn." personally, i love both songs equally, but i get why people might like this one better. i just think "burn" is better for the musical because eliza's anger in this would make the transition to the forgiveness in "it's quiet uptown" less realistic, plus the line about her erasing herself from the narrative is much more impactful in the regular "burn." if lin kept this in the musical instead of "burn," he would have had to make parts of the musical different for it to fit seamlessly with the other songs.

Hamilton left out "first burn" and replaced it with "burn" because he believe eliza wouldnt have admitted those feelings she had and knowing about hamilton and angelica. she's very reserved, so her calling hamilton out wouldn't of happened
