    Note to the viewers. Remember this is a workout video. Not a martial arts video. There is an intentional difference. Think of hitting the gym before practicing at the armory. Thanks for watching.

      I do 5 minuts of 45°angle hits from early medieval swords fencing (with 1.116 gr sword) on one hand and then other 5 minuts on other hand. After this 5 minuts of shield rant (15x hits on one hand and change to other hand on 5 minuts passtime) hits which 4.5 kg round "viking" shield. Greetings from Poland.

    If you extend the shield arm during your first cut, your sword hand will have more protection. And if you lower the shield hand while raising the shield arm elbow, you create a space for your sword arm to rotate around the shield while still giving it protection. I understand it's for beginners, but I think it's better to start out practicing these habits rather than developing them later. Look into I.33 for additional inspiration for the exercises if you want to cover more ground. Otherwise, it's been an excellent video and has inspired me to practice again more

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not a doctor. But I can tell you that I did help a woman who was in a car accident strengthen her shoulder after a car accident. All I can say is try it slowly. If it hurts then stop. This exercise is low impact. If your joints can stand doing it then it will strengthen them. But please be careful and go slow. If it's painful then stop.

    I tried to find more info about this Trebuchet technique but I wasn't able to. Is this a standard naming for the technique? Also the Orion or Athena position are quite exciting terms but are yours? Thank you

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they are my terms. Keep in mind this is an exercise system, not a martial arts system. Firing the muscles will be different so even if I chose to use, as an example "from Vom Tag launch uberhau," then it still wouldn't convey the correct way to swing. Thus the easiest way to cut through all that confusion is to use different names.

    3 things I want to point out about the video until 2:59 (because I did not watch the rest)
    1. When you take a step forward, you want your sword to land at the same time as your foot. This is now you add more strength to your attack.
    Also, if you move your foot before you swing your sword, you are advertising your move to your opponent. which is not a good strategy.
    th-cam.com/video/A1tTDcakB0w/w-d-xo.html
    2. when you swing the come around and swing the sword from the left side, you seem to forget that you have a shield. You are very likely to hit your shield or your arm doing that.
    3. You need to move your shield with your right arm because when you attack you are exposing your hand.

      Note the title of this video is Intro Sword Workout #1. It is not "How to use the sword to destroy your foes." There is a giant difference in what we program into a workout vs what we program into a martial art. This is not a martial art video. This is a workout video. The objective of this video is to strengthen joints and build muscle by utilizing maximum articulation, burn maximum calories, achieve balance in the maximum range of motion. Etc. It is not nor claims to be a martial arts video. I will add athletes at the professional level hit the weight room and perform drills that utilize a more full range of motion than what they perform in their sport. This is for the same reason this video utilizes full range of shoulder motion. In my view it is important for a sword fighter to understand how a full rotation of sword in hand feels. Practicing full range of motion is not only beneficial to any sport or martial art, it is also essential for joint health. But you are correct in that the movements in this particular video are not martial art movements. They are fitness exercises meant to supplement the martial art.

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shoot for 200 -300 strikes a day. That takes about 10 minutes to 45 minutes depending on which strikes you are doing.

    Great video. Is this part of a fighting system though? I have looked into kendo, kenjutsu, hema and other arts / videos on TH-cam, but I am looking for any martial art with practical sword drills. I have a background in martial arts and I used to playfight during my childhood using sticks. But take fencing for example; holding one arm behind my back or on my hip is not my style. I like to use strength over speed. So basically, if anyone can tell me a decent sword art, please reply! Thanks

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is not part of a fighting style. This is a workout meant to train large muscle movement with swords. However, like lifting weights, doing these motions as an untrained person will shorten the learning curve for those in training for a specific weapons based martial art. Fighting and working out are two different things, as you may know. Workouts are meant to burn maximum calories, break down muscle mass and get stronger. Fighting should be fast, efficient, and controlled. Kill a man then move on to the next one unwinded as possible. This makes martial arts at odds with fitness training in terms of how to move. But they are also extremely complementary.

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as a sword art looking for strength over speed? It sounds like an axe + shield might be your bag. Or Highland Broadsword and targe. HEMA is a lot of things so there might be something in there for you. Buhurt is full armor steel fighting. SCA is sort of an in-between HEMA and Buhurt, but has no emphasis on historical accuracy. Ive done a bit of everything and I can say there is no "pure" or best sword fighting discipline. It's all very fun and challenging. One can fight military saber with more power and less speed, or Longsword. But my gut sense is you want to try sword and shield. There might be something for this in your area that does this. Thanks for checking out my video and please watch some of my others.

      Meyer's long sword.
      I-33 sword buckler.
      And back sword are great arts.
      Note this video is not a fighting system. This would get you killed on the real martial field.
      (For sword drills use Meyer's four openings. Or the 16 cut diagram.)

    Ok so this makes since but how would I adapt this to a Viking round shield. Seems like it would be a bit difficult to do a full swing with a round shield. Sorry new to sword and shield workouts

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question. Keep in mind when holding a viking shield the proper form is to angle the shield in your hand. Holding the shield parallel to the body is a big no-no because it blocks the path of your sword hand. Angle the shield so that it barely covers your center line. You will find sometimes your sword arm will recover swing in the shady side of the shield, and sometimes on the outside of the shield, depending on the situation and what you are trying to do.

    Good vid, man. Just a few observations for you to ponder. For maximum power the blade should strike before the foot hits the floor. Try an aggressive stomp step. It works great on the enemies psyche and gives more balance. You length of step is good. This is all to just advice to make your sword work more martial in nature. Take it or leave it. No big deal. Good job.

      I for sure like the routine, and will personally adapt it for myself and those working with me....but I agree; building proper footwork and kinetic chain in my mind are "beginner" things. In fact I currently do a step drill with no cut at all....

  • @sirbricklord8074
    @sirbricklord8074 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How many of each should you do for a decent routine?

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what you are trying to do. I like to set it up in 10 or 15 yard increments. So I will go back and forth 4x15 yards then switch to a different workout. The other thing I like to do is go by a timer for 45-120 seconds. Rest for 30 seconds, then repeat. It's not the weight but the power you can put behind it that makes it the workout with no ceiling. If it's too easy then swing harder. This exercise works well as a module. So make sure to switch out to another movement.

    is polyurthane swords legal to own?

    • @BladeFitAcademy
      @BladeFitAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All local and State laws of the US vary. I don't know about other countries. Cold Steel and other companies sell them on Amazon and other websites easily available for the mass market. But these are not swords. They are sword trainers. They are not sharp, not intended for self defense. These are training equipment. So I don't know how to answer your question, exactly. And I'm not a lawyer.

      Because this particular exercise is for both right hand and left hand. Plus is meant to be simple. Adding more things makes the person focus on the equipment when this exercise is designed for them to focus on the body mechanics.

That's what this video teaches. You can watch some other videos on this channel showing military saber, sword/shield or longsword for greater context.

      Starting with 250 cuts twice a day. Then move gradually to 500 cuts twice a day. The thing of it is we can always swing harder or faster or with more control. So one never out grows the routine.
