Oh look, it's Jimmy's legendary Black Beauty. It was stolen in April 1970 and remained missing for 45 years until it was finally rediscovered and reunited with is true owner in 2015.

I love “Nobody’s Fault but Mine” because Plant has the greatest harmonica sola I’ve ever heard. At least it’s my favorite harmonica solo. I think it’s their most underrated song in their catalog. Badass!!

Back then they would often (well, occasionally) use two microphones when recording live. One for the house mix, and one for the board mix. So, if they released a live album they could easily re-EQ the sound.

  • @PeterTea

Thanks for reacting to this. They closed the show out in style! They were having even more fun because it was Jimmy Page’s birthday and his mum made him a nice vest. Their live stuff is great but it’s always good to check it out versus the studio stuff since they change up their music so much. You should list all the Zeppelin songs that you’ve done somewhere. It’s all good or more likely great by them. Tea for One. It’s their second longest studio track. A slow burning blues piece. A bit similar to Since I’ve Been Loving You. th-cam.com/video/_I_uLwq3iwI/w-d-xo.html

🎸 Jimmy Page played his super tight stringed Custom 1959 ‘Black Beauty’ (complete with Bigsby vibrato system and a six-way toggle switch. Love the sound he created out of it. Oh, and the second mic is certainly NOT to help Plant’s voice travel further. That Monster voice of his needs no help in that department. That second mic is for the harmonica

I actually spend time with Jimmy Page and Perry Margouleff the guy that found this guitar the Black Beauty he is playing here that was missing for decades and what an amazing night it was to sit with them and talk about it, and last year when Jimmy had the exhibition Play it Loud at the Metropolitan Museum we were there when they displayed Jimmys equipment from that era, also a bunch of other artists as well like the Beatles , Hendrix , Stones etc etc....had a blast

Two mics on top of each-other were also used in 1970s as a way to lessen feedback. One was 180 degrees out of phase with the other, which cancelled the feedback noise out. That became important as the '60s were ending - because the powerful amplifiers like Marshall stacks were getting higher and higher to accommodate the hard rock and the bigger audiences.

Second mic is probably an instrument mic and not a vocal mic.

Sal - thanks again for another great reaction. I love this Royal Albert Hall concert. It's just them and the music - before the stage show with a bare chested Robert and a dragon-suited Jimmy (although I like that too) Love the call and response between Page and Bonham - guitar and drums and Page and Plant -guitar and harmonica - You have so much more Led Zeppelin to get to- the studio albums are great for their perfect musicianship and production values but the live performance are where they really shine. I think Led Zeppelin is unique in that respect. Check out another FABULOUS live performance from Earl's Court in 5/1975 of Trampled Under Foot from the Physical Graffiti album 🔥🔥🔥 th-cam.com/video/HGFITl5mFvs/w-d-xo.html

Ozzy Osbourne used a double mic too around this time. Check out War Pigs, live in Paris. Something in the back of my mind thinks it's actually to do with having to juice up the P.As of the day, but I could easily be wrong.

You are young right? I think so from your comments. I’m not at all saying that it’s wrong, just making sense of your comments. I am definitely older, and graduated HS in 1983 (I’m a dinosaur I know). But I heard you say you were a Michael Jackson fan, but in the ‘ 90’. I was fortunate enough to have lived in real time for the best music he ever produced. At the end of my HS days, MJ dropped the absolute shit with the best music of his career. All of us “Rock Diehards” had to concede that MJ had just released one of the greatest albums of all times in Thriller. Billie Jean remains one of the best songs of all time, mic drop 🎤 and no argument
