"Ievan polkka" (Finnish for "Ieva's Polka") is a Finnish song with lyrics printed in 1928[1] and written by Eino Kettunen to a traditional Finnish polka tune. The song is sung in an Eastern Savonian dialect spoken in North Karelia. It is sung from the point of view of a young man, about a woman called Ieva (dialectal for the name Eva or Eeva in standard Finnish) who sneaks out and dances the polka with him all night. The song is often mistaken for a traditional folk song, but the lyrics by Eino Kettunen are still under copyright.

The first letter of the song's name is actually I (capital letter). I as in India, not L. - The song is an old Finnish song and Eeva is a Finnish woman's name. The name of the song should actually be "Eevan Polkka" in official Finnish (Eeva's Polka in English), but the name Eeva is pronounced with the dialect of one part of Finland, Ieva (i,e,v,a). The first e has changed to i according to the dialect. That's why the song's name is Ievan Polkka (Ieva's Polka in English).

Thankyou very much for this as I always thought it was 'L'. I google a lot of things mostly but only when I need confirmation from something that is or based on some level of fact. I first heard this through Hatsune Miku as I love my anime and then got really drunk and started looking into the other versions until I got to the Acapella versions that back-date a generation or 2. I personally enjoyed the Turkish version with his bongo drum the best. Thanks for the info! Cheers.

I've always known that the first letter is i because I'm Finnish. And so what if someone uses Google? What's wrong with that? Perhaps you should use Google yourself to translate words because the word you used twice is not transilation but translation.
