- In this episode of The Bluerpint Explosive Exclusive, host Kritsween Walia will discuss how in June, the price of electricity in Karnataka increased by Rs 2.89 per unit. This follows the announcement that the people of Karnataka would receive 200 free units of electricity from the state government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. According to reports, the increase of Rs 2.89 per unit was made in order to accommodate the new Griha Jyoti program, which promises households free power with a monthly cap of 200 units. The plan has already been criticized because, prior to the assembly elections, Congress offered 200 free power units to each household. Fuel and power purchase cost adjustment (FPPCA) and April arrears are included in the additional cost. In opposition to the power tariff increase and load shedding, the BJP staged a demonstration in the City. On Monday, Siddaramiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, made the claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is encouraging wasteful and extravagant use of the scheme that provides free electricity for up to 200 units. We are joined by few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “We have to come up with a plan, we have to come up a new policy. There has to be a way to implement them,” stated Rohan Mitra, Political Analyst.

The truth is this 1. In Gruhajyothi, if any consumer on an average is using 100 units per month, then s/he will only get free electricity upto 110 units per month and will pay for any consumption beyond 110 units, even though the poll assurance was upto 200 units 2. In Shakthi, the women can only avail free bus fare travelling in ordinary or red coloured buses and not in any of the luxury buses. Therefore women will only continue to get free fare only in red buses and not in any sort of luxury buses, Accordingly the Govt wants poor women to remain poor or become poorer as they can never utilize better facilities available in luxury buses.
