Quit facebook almost 2 years ago, no instagram, no anything :) life surely became much better and if I go back to facebook for a short time (like, an hour), I feel a huge amount of anxiety and pure evil.

I unfriended my friends who gives no sense and always blames others. Now I had a good time looking at my timeline, I only see positive contents and self improvement. That's why choose your friends wisely and share the things that will help others to excel on what they do.

I've read the book and it was absolutely fantastic. Makes you self-aware of how much I am on my phone and it makes you stop and think if what I am actually doing is benefiting me. I use Digital Well-being on my S10 to set daily timers for Reddit (15 minutes) and I've completely removed Facebook from my phone. I still have the account and I checked it for the first time this month and believe me when I say this, I didn't miss out on anything. So now I've taken the time that I would have used for Social Media and put it towards reading books I have always wanted to read. It's a very small step and there is always room for improvement but the results have been nothing but good. Excellent video!

This book is next on my reading list. My wife and I actually watched a TED talk by Cal Newport that initially sparked our interest in ditching social media. I was really happy to see he wrote this book to expand on the ideas he touches on in the talk and am really looking forward to reading it. I've been reading a lot about minimalism lately (both digital and analog(???)) and I have to say that it has really changed my life for the better. Keep up the videos about new books and your minimalist lifestyle because it's very helpful for those of us who are pursuing similar goals! I've found that my screen time in general has plummetted since I ditched social media, and I find myself leaving my phone unattended for hours at a time, if not entire days with no negative consequences. If anything, my phone-less days are highly productive and leave me feeling so refreshed and clear-headed. If it's not on your list yet, Fumio Sasaki has a book about minimalism that I found to be a good read (listen, in my case). Most of the concepts within were already familiar to me, but I think his perspective on minimalism is slightly different from the "Western" minimalist movement, since his writing was largely in the context of Japanese culture and social norms. Anyway, thanks for the upload, Kraig. I've been following you since the early Wedding Film School days and think that your content has gotten a lot more honest and forward lately. I enjoy it as a breath of fresh air amongst my sub box. Keep up the good work. Don't like this comment.

This video came at the right moment for me. Today I met up with my cousins and some friends to watch a football match. I was already feeling a little down cause it's too hot outside where I live to do any outdoor activities. I was expecting a night of talking and laughing and watching the game. Instead everyone was on their phones for the whole time. They didn't even watch the game, so after the first half I just left. I looked at them and inside it made me sad because these are my real friends and family and I couldn't connect with them at all. I feel incredibly lucky that the woman I got engaged to is not like that. Great video buddy.

I’m 20 now, and quit social media when I was 15 (also the height of my anxiety). I don’t watch TV either (personal preference). None of this felt particularly ‘rewarding’ at first, I just went cold turkey and felt just fine without it.
But over the years, I noticed I’d started to develop relationships with people differently, at my own pace, getting to know them upon first meeting instead of through their Facebook/instagram profiles.
I’d also become way more content with myself, knowing I can enjoy my day how I want to. If I didn’t do much, that settled just fine with me; doing “nothing” for a day felt more like doing something, instead of scrolling for hours.
There won’t be a trophy waiting for you when you quit or limit your time on social media, but in incremental ways it does help, such as enjoying other things more, getting closer to those around you, finding things out about yourself you didn’t know existed!

  • @OmarAlSamadi

Thank you for sharing this wisdom! I deleted my Facebook about a year ago but still struggle with Instagram. As a photographer it's my main outlet to sharing my content but I still find myself using it for pointless scrolling far too frequently. I often delete the app with the goal of downloading it again only when time to share a new photo, but then I cave. It's hard, but I'm trying and this video really re-enforces the benefit of these more healthy habits. Again, thank you!

  • @JonBear

Such an important message. We live in a world of abundance, where our problems come from having too much. Haven't read this book before but I have read Cal Newport before, great author and he has an insane work ethic. Absolutely amazing guy. I also made a video on this, where I talk about how most of out problems are solved by removing some of that abundance ->Switching to minimalism
"Extracting eye balls and attention is now more lucrative than oil" -Did you come up with that? That's one banger of a quote

  • @al-fl7rn
    @al-fl7rn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for this. I have recently developed extremely bad habits after relapsing into video games again, but not only that I also spent hours on TH-cam and social networking platforms like Discord, too. I would sacrifice my sleep to play with online friends due to FOMO. I continued to do this for over 6 months which has caused my life to almost entirely collapse; my grades were barely good enough for my standard, my health wasn't well taken care of and I completely cut off any relationships IRL.
Now I'm slowly starting to take my life back. I've cut down the time I spend playing video games, I still have a craving at times but I rarely have the tendecy to want to play. I deleted discord, I change my email address to a random one and deleted my account before I could change my mind. I've been off discord for almost two weeks and I went an entire day without playing games. I did play earlier but I had free time, I didn't sacrifice anything.
As for TH-cam, I've unsubscribed to any gaming-related channels and am still trying to cut down on my time in TH-cam but I'm getting there. I've been avoiding negative content such as drama, etc.
I couldn't sleep because there were so many things on my mind but after watching this, somehow, my mind is now at ease :)
    I'm going to subscribe! Hehe!~

I got a timelock on Reddit and TH-cam for 15 minutes/hr and 1 hour a day... I reach the limit every day, but I'm happy that I have it. After 2 months of using it i'm already reading more, and slouching on the couch less. I still watch TH-cam on my computer, but the mindless reading of Reddit before and after bed has been reduced to just 10 minutes, I'm happy with that. Also, I'll always love your content, keep it up Kraig!

Great videos, a great guy. I think social media is a place where the company gains more from the user than the user does for themselves. I have 5 thousand friends on FB, but I only see a small percentage. But if I paid I’d reach all of my friends ‘digital friends’. I use technology on iPad and phone to constantly draw cartoons for t-shirts. Can be frustrating, back and forth. So what you say makes total sense.
I’ve been told stoicism is a great read to better understand the world and people. The Little Witch and the lost boy is the last audiobook I listened to with my girls.

Minimalism, in my point of view, has to be crossed with an intentional thinking about everything we do. Not in order of becoming crazy and maniac but in a traditional philosophical goal. We have to ask ourselves about what we do, how we do it - at every level of our lives. This secular way of thinking helpw create a virtous circle of thinking and self-improvement.

Got a real Wes Anderson vibe from some of those title cards. Incredibly well-timed insight, and glad to see that you're doing well!
