The real injustice here was that Russell Crowe didn't win Best Actor for it, which is probably in the top 5 acting performances of all time. He was THE reason it won, and why Ron won. Crowe, unaware of the matter, called them up and started yelling and ranting about how that speech was a special moment he dedicated to someone! They explained themselves, but at that point the damage was done! That was one of the first incidents where the general public found out that Crowe has some SERIOUS anger issues! Thus causing Academy voters to change their mind last minute! I mean he's the ONLY actor to have won the Critic's choice, golden globe, SAG, and the Bafta without winning the Oscar! He was a shoe in for his second consecutive Oscar, but he had to kill it for himself! Oh well, Washington gave a bad ass performance worthy of that Oscar as well!

A Beautiful Mind was an amazing movie (one of my favorites) but come on, no one other than Lynch could've made Mullholand Drive

No one could've 100% understood it either. No one could've stood Gosford Park and Black Hawk Down. Those movies lacked anything other than philosophy and visuals. A Beautiful Mind was made for everyone, despite being a biographical drama and not a self involved snoozefest.

I personally think it's HILARIOUS and RIDICULOUS that Ron Howard won a Directing Oscar over Robert Altman, David Lynch, Peter Jackson and Ridley Scott. All four directors pretty much superior to him in almost every way.

While I agree that Ron Howard is a great director, a beautiful mind was an actor's movie (Like Howard says in his speech). On the other hand, Black Hawk Down in my opinion, is the definition of a director's movie (even though it does have great acting in it). Balancing those battle scenes with cohesive emotion while at the same time making you FEEL like you're actually witnessing a real war is not a lot directors are able to do. Ridley Scott did that. And he deserved the oscar for it.
