    Oh man, I'm stumbling on this series of build videos right as I research into my SLuckey AC30 build. So psyched to find this. I don't need it per se, but always cool and helpful to see someone else's build. Thanks!

      Sluckey is an amazing resource. He's helped me and so many other new amp builders learn the ropes. Thanks

    Awesome watch... thanks for that... keep us in the loop... would love to see the finished product...

      +Rod Nesser thanks, I'm going to make this series a pretty detailed set of most everything I do in the build, nitty gritty level of detail.

    Yep a 1meg pot for the trem will give more options for the user, than the option you may choose. But no matter what your final choice will be this building of an ac30'll be phenomenonal.

    Great idea! Waiting for the next video!
    I also plan to make a vox like amp after deluxe finish.
    But I want to make a mix of 30/4 and 30/6TB. With the normal channel from /4, blilliant channel and top boost from /6TB and without tremolo.
    What is the output transformer are you going to use?

      +PavelDashkov both the power and output are Heyboer, I used the same in a previous build for an AC30 top boost and normal channel build I did as my first from scratch build, it's a Hoffman style build

    Hi, am really enjoying your videos and will want to start my own AC 30-4 based on your schematic and the Steve Luckey layout. At this point (I've been at it for about 1 1/2 year
    and have built a few Fender classics and a plexi 45 all from Mojotone), I am trying to build from a schematic (without a layout) and find it very difficult.
    A few pointers would be appreciated.
    Keep me interested
    Leo

      We do have the layout already. Building from schematic alone can be very challenging

    What was the final cost? just curious to see how cost efficient it is and do you recommend an "simple" amp to start with?

    • @FrenchieFilms
      @FrenchieFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Wilson Jr I probably have paid about 800 or so for all the parts, but I lucked out on the transformers. They were on sale. But a new handwired vox is about 2200 or 2500 I think, and this model isn't made anyone. If you're wanting an easy amp to start with, I suggest a fender 5E3 champ. Check Hoffmanamps.com for most of the parts. Also if you're not used to soldering or general electronics work, I suggest trying out a few guitar pedal kits first, as tube amps have extremely high voltages, and are a bit more complex. Edit: fixed phone auto-corrects "sigh"

    Is it just my old drunk's eyes, but do I really see a 150/5W resistor from the 4 x EL84 cathodes to ground, bypassed with a 50 uF electolytic cap? I believe, that AC30 used a 50 ohm resistor bypassed with a 250 uF electrolytic cap. AC15 had something like 130 (120) ohm/50uF. At the end of this video the layout has a 50/10W though, bypassed with a 50 uF cap. Otherwise really nice work! Enjoyded watching this.

      Thanks for the comments, I honestly can't recall now, but the entire thing is documented here el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=20313.0

      I actually looked it over and it definitely has a 50ohm on the layout, that would likely be what I used, but I'd have to open up the amp and check. I've been wanting to do a video on signal tracing, and I need to shockmount the EF86 on that amp, so I may get around to that soon.

    Hey! What software do u use to draw this point-to-point schematics?

    • @FrenchieFilms
      @FrenchieFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bruno Marinho for the schematics, I use expresssch, part of expresspcb. Although I'm looking to move to Visio

    How difficult would it be to skip the vib/trem channel altogether?

    • @FrenchieFilms
      @FrenchieFilms  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think it would be super hard, I'd bet someone already has the mods to do it, I found this with a google search, but don't know how 'good' it is: www.audioservicemanuals.com/v/vox/vox-ac30/7284400-vox-ac30-4-schematic

    Nice work. Do you have a BOM you can make available?

    • @FrenchieFilms
      @FrenchieFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Burnttoaster I didn't make one, because I reused one from an ac15 that is identical except for the quad output tubes, but I may be able to get that done for you.

    • @Looloo256
      @Looloo256 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok I found the best list I can get quickly. Basically I built Sluckey's AC15 as an AC30, like I said, with basically 2 more power tube sockets, power tubes, power resistors, etc. Here's his full detail with an attached PDF that has at least a small parts list with the resitors, capacitors, etc. sluckeyamps.com/VAC15/ac15.htm

    Anyway you can send me the pic of your friends ac15 schematic? I have an old Hammond tube amp I wanna build an ac15 out of

      I'd have to look if I can find it, but it's available online at el34world.com. Search for sluckey's ac 15
