      The only thing I later thought of that goes slightly against that. Is when Ronnie refused the 147 shook hands then potted the black. But I think everyone wanted him to get a 147 and didn’t care

    • @teece99
      @teece99 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Yes, no problem with the black hitting the rest in those circumstances. Yuan was unable to move the rest out of the way because John was shaking his hand! It would have been unfair to penalise him for this and clearly John was satisfied that the game was over.

    • @OfflineSetup
      @OfflineSetup 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My understanding is that only the player at the table can concede. It could be a rule change was introduced to speed up the game (147 excepted). The ref called no foul, Yuan won. The shaking of hands was not the end of the game although it was a distraction, the ref calling the end was the end.

    you can ban one person for life and then just slap another on the wrist. The greatest scandal in snooker was not match fixing - but the extreme punishment given to Stephen Lee. When Ted Lowe was asked once whether there was a limit to the amount of time someone could take on a shot his answer was that "yes there is a limit - but nobody knows what it is!)"

I once slow played an opponent I knew played very fast on purpose in a darts game and won, but I felt bad about what I had done afterwards. As we played I could tell for sure he was affected and you could say it's a tactic and in sports that counts as well, but in hindsight I don't believe I would do it again. Opinions anyone?

    There are two types of push shot; firstly one where you physically push the cue ball along with the cue (you are pushing the white) and secondly one where the cue is in contact with the white at the same time the white is in contact with another ball in which case you are deemed to be pushing the other ball along using the cue and white. In order for this not to occur you have to play the white away from the ball which it is already touching. In which scenario it is deemed you have hit the ball you are playing away from and you are credited with hitting that ball if appropriate. If that ball is not appropriate then you must hit the appropriate ball after playing away. Hitting the cue ball twice with the cue is not a push shot but it is a foul shot.

      The problem with that is that people aren't consistent. It is likely that he's better left-handed while in the zone than he's right-handed out of it, but age also plays in, so if next year he plays left-handed and seems to be in the zone, you can't necessarily compare that to him being in the zone while playing right-handed as a younger man.

      Higgins got away with that far too lightly imo. All snooker fans can remember the Fransisco brother's fixing scandal years before. But both of those players were journeymen at best. Higgins could beat anyone with his A game. So a bet on him to lose was worth a fortune if you knew the result beforehand.

    1st one (no 10) the handshake ends the game so, no foul.
    Ebdon’s slow play is a tricky one, as Cliff Thorburn regularly played very slowly. Playing one match he took five minutes to take a simple pot.

    If Higgins wanted out of the room, he could have said, "match fixing!?! F**k that I'm out"!! He was tempted because of the money, it's shameful entrapment, it's different if the player actively went looking for it, imo

    Higgins should have been baned for life! One of the all time greats and he goes and agrees to that. I hope he never wins another tournament.
    I agree that no. 10 on this list shouldn't be classed as cheating as the players and the ref had shaken hands and weren't even looking at the table.

    There are vital differences between the Lee and Higgins cases. Lee fixed matches, bet on those matches and made a profit on those matches. The evidence against him was overwhelming. Higgins agreed, in principle, to fix a few matches for money. However, as the NotW broke the story BEFORE any money changed hands and BEFORE the matches took place, he had what might be called 'plausible deniability'. His manager took the fall for him. Personally, I think Higgins intended to throw matches for money, but you can't convict someone on what you think, only on what you can prove. The case against Lee was proven, the case against Higgins wasn't.

    I think the question of the invisible touch is a very interesting one considering other rules. For instance, if you can make a perfect snooker, you will be penalized for it under current rules. Because a difficult snooker can get you an unlimited number of points, but a perfect snooker can only get you a maximum of seven because there's no way to say that an effort is good enough or not when faced with an impossibility. To be consistent with that, I think that a hit on the red that is so perfect that the referee doesn't know that it is a hit, that should be penalized for being too perfect.
    As you may have guessed, I think that this is completely wrong. A perfect snooker should be rewarded and likewise, if the referee can't say that it wasn't a hit, then it should be counted as a hit. But the rules should be logically consistent. If the rule is that it's the players duty to avoid perfection, then that should be the rule. Maybe a suitable reward for a perfect snooker would be that the victim is sentenced to one snooker needed, but gets the choice of a free ball from the current position or handing the game back to the opponent with ball in hand in the kitchen. I haven't thought very much about it, but that seems reasonable to me.
    As a computer guy, I could come up with some digital solutions, but I don't want to. Just make the rules logical and humans can figure it out on their own.

      @RiotDogGaming1 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're talking about the miss rule, the referee has the discretion to not call a miss if they deem that a player has made a good enough effort to escape a snooker

    The first one with higgins. Rules dictate that if, with the fowl having been accepted. If there was a mathematical chance of higgins winning the frame the referee should have abided by that rule. Even if it did look like he'd conceded.. Ronnie osullivan got a warning once for conceding a frame when there were enough points on the table for him to win with..(not requiring any snookers)

      We have learned one thing during history every superstar always goes unpunished i have never seen big superstar to get banned its always those "bad" players. If Michael jordan did something bad In 90s NBA would have paid hundreds of millions to it go away its all business and Michael was cash cow.
