      Thanks a lot Jeff. I can't wait to get back on the bike, especially now the sun is beginning to appear again.

      Cheers Paul. The pain really is like when you break a bone (and I've been there a few times). On the mend now though, slow though that may be.

    Good to see you back making videos David I did my back in years ago when I was a postie lets just say I haven't done that job for a number of years now but I'm still living with the pain

      That's grim Mark. Hope it's not too bad for you. I'm hoping that with more rest and then careful exercise, I'll fully recover from this. I certainly haven't planned to be afflicted by it long term. keeping my fingers crossed.

    Lots of good music out there for bargain prices, especially if you have wider, or more eclectic tastes like me. I have grabbed many new vinyl albums for €10-15 over the last year.
    Beterschap David!!

    I feel your pain, the last 4 weeks have been incredibly restricting. I've been hobbling around like a drunken sailor. Disc pressing on nerve is not fun. Anyway some good finds there, always enjoy your videos.

      Crikey. There's a lot of these back injuries about. Hope yours is on the mend too. It's a slow process though, isn't it?

    Hi David! Very sorry to hear about that health setback. That sounds incredibly painful. I wanted to do another marathon after my terrible outing here in Boston /22, but it just isn’t in the cards. My hip flexors and right knee have said enough is enough unfortunately.
    On the music front, that Icelandic record sounds good as I enjoy Sigur Ros. I’ve never been a big Zappa guy, but I could listen to him talk all day. Highly intelligent and a very interesting personality. I enjoy that Steve Van Zandt TV series Lillehammer. Did you ever watch The Sopranos David? If not, you really must. Your comments on Orwell are right on point. Trudeau is a menace. You should hear my 95 year old mother go on about him. 😮 Take care of yourself my friend. ✌️

      Hi mate. Yes, this back problem is a bloody nightmare. Shit happens, I guess. I know I'm years ahead of you, bit we're all getting older and the curtailment of your marathon aspirations sadly come as no surprise. I used to do distance running myself (middle, not marathon) and played football relentlessly when young. A skiing accident and then my cycling mauling by an errant driver did for my knees. Gotta keep moving though, whichever way works! Keep on keeping on Mike.
      I haven't seen Lillehammer (I really should) but I'm still only a third of the way through 'The Sopranos'. You lot on TH-cam have been playing havoc with my box set marathons!
      And it's good to know that my overly-diplomatic (😉) comments about Canadian politics resonate, and I imagine a chat with your mum would be a feisty affair!

    I'm sorry to hear about your back issues. I wrenched my back years ago, and it was surprisingly painful. I hope you recover quickly. I'm looking for more Public Service Broadcasting records (I only have one, and I enjoy it). I'm going to have a listen to Jóhann Jóhannsson; he sounds like someone I would like. Lilyhammer was a great show! I have read several Philip Roth books, and I should get to reading to more. I have also read everything that Orwell published. Canada is a special place 🙃 I just can't get over the insanity of American politics, and the lies that are routinely issued! People believe anything, as long as it comports with their own views. I worry for the future of democracy.

      Jóhannsson’s final score, Mandy, is stunning

      @davidatkinson-lifematters4826  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Brian. Thanks very much. Johannsson's music is, in places, stunning. Far from rock music, it's modern enough to distinguish it from even 'modern (20thC) classical. So evocative and other-worldly in places. If you like that vibe, I'm sure you'll get much out of his music.
      Good to know that Orwell has been a big thing in your reading too. As for the politics of Canada and the USA (read Europe too), there's a chapter in that Zappa book on his reflections on politics and the media. The book was published in 1989, and he rails against the lies, corruption, and propaganda of US politics. There are sections in this chapter that could have been written last week. I don't know about you, but my political idealism has evaporated over the last four years. Gone. And for good.

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidatkinson-lifematters4826 Yes, idealism is long gone. American politics have always been weird, but it has never bee crazier with alternative facts, post-truth, propaganda, and raging identity politics. Everything that came before seems almost benign somehow.

    Hello David. Back issue. Been there - done that. I can greatly sympathies with you. I think back (no pun intended) when my issue like yours crested - I remember trying to get out of the car (i was by myself and the driver) After grimacing in pain on the slightest movement - I fell out of the car on all fours, and slowly stood up. Forward. Got past it over time. Pinched nerves - herniated disk . Hang in there David. It will finally pass. I have strengthened my back and very careful lifting. It is the twisting while in a compromised position that does the damage. Chill. Take care and music is a great healer too.

      Cheers Pat. It's no fun having this sort of back problem. Can't do anything. But like you say, it's slowly improving, although I watched a video earlier today from a doc who talked about 6-12 months. Ouch!

    • @patmeadows4759

      Pat here again. What really assisted me in my recovery from that back issue was a osteopathic physician here in Victoria BC Canada. He has since retired. He also helped many friends I recommended him to over the years. Great name. Dr. Church. A good physiotherapist can help too, plus when you are up for it - some massages. 6 -12 months seems extremes (anything past 4-5 months) . You can't imagine what a debilitating back injury is until you experience it!! You can really see why many many people got over prescribed and hence got 'hooked' on opioids. I bet you really miss your bike rides let alone general well being physically. I really enjoy your bike ride vids. You're a really positive fellow so just keep those positive vibes going and your family is there for you too. Get well very very soon!!

      @davidatkinson-lifematters4826  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@patmeadows4759 Thanks again Pat. Yes, I won't take my back for granted in the future. Depending on what the specialist tells me this week, I'll be up for physio. I even initially tried a session of acupuncture, which did seem to help, but that's not a workable daily proposition. I have turned the legs on my spin bike (without incident) so, given the right advice, I may test the back on a bike ride next month. Cycling might actually help, with the back and legs in a consistent plane, and it might get the blood and other hormones flowing to the affected area. It's going to hard to hold back when the sun shines and the spring temperatures rise!

      I've been curious about Zappa for the last thirty years or so. I had zero interest before that, and that's probably the reason why his appearance at Knebworth in '78 just didn't stick with me. I don't know about you but for me, every few years or so I have a flurry of listening sessions, picking-out his albums, and then it stops. He isn't one of those artists I play routinely, even though I enjoy his stuff when I do. Strange that he hasn't really stuck with me as a favourite.

      Hi Michael, To be fair, I was probably a little harsh in this video. I think compared to others in the genre, these Yes albums are definitely good. By casual dismissal is almost certainly because I've been listening to their complete discography over the past couple of months, and these recent additions are just not of the same standard. Competent and enjoyable though.
