  • Doc Jenni visits a horse whose owners are concerned she has ulcers. They reported she has a history of being “girthy” and a trainer they had worked with before thought she might have them. The only way to truly confirm a horse has ulcer is the see them with a camera cut tells the clients there are refer pain sites. Watch as Doc Jenni does an ulcer evaluation looking for symptoms of ulcers and shows us the pressure points one can check.
Dr. Jenni Grimmett is an incredibly approachable veterinarian, a wonderful teacher, and talented Cowboy Dressage horse woman. Learn more about Dr. Jenni at SAVE.vet.

So what ended up being the issue? It's so important to listen to horse handler observations! What exactly bc were the observations and if you don't think it's ulcers what did you recommend they check for instead? My horse diagnosed with ulcers via a scope hadn't displayed much at all on the ground but main my in resistance to lateral work and lack of forward energy. First vet sent me packing. A month later I didn't 5k in a big work up at a university. ULCERS. Squamous, glandular, pylorus. Grade 2/4! Now on month 2 of treatment.

I just did this test on my horse. She flickered on the wither. Near girth and flickered on chest. Not severely reacting but after watching your helpful video I do think it is an issue

cribbing and other behaviors like it (weaving, pacing, head bobbing) are a coping mechanism to deal with intense prolonged boredom or stress. commonly seen in former racehorses, often arises from being stalled for long periods of time
