I wasn't particularly interested in learning this song based solely on version one. But 2, 3 and especially 4, definitely piqued my interest. Thank you so much for such a thorough lesson!

That was an incredible lesson for an incredible song. You really broke it down so that any level of guitar player could feel like they played the song to their liking. It'll take me a while to master Level 4, but I'm committed to watching your video until I do. Thanks!

Doug. This is great . Makes the song far more interesting than strumming and that works but picking out the melody is so much better.

Liked your video! Have been tinkering with the guitar for many long years, with many different forms from Rock to Folk, to Folk-Rock from 60's to 80's?
Edmund Fitzgerald, most just play the basic, Asus, Em, G, D. I think it needed something, and I have been trying to figure out what? You gave me that answer, with version 4! Now, I just have to commit your progression to my old memory! Thanks, it is appreciated!

@@dougedgell I have added going up from "Em" chord, picking "Ab", (4th fret), 6th string then struming the "G" chord, to add a little more to the song! What do you think? And the song has more ring to it with a 12 string acoustic!

Great lesson, but as a new player, can you direct me to the chord fingering diagrams for the "higher level" styles...I am having trouble following your verbal instruction...or at least share the chord shapes and frets they are on in writing, and i can try to look them up myself...except for that piece, i enjoyed this, and even at level "1" I have stepped it up for this song.

    Man Doug, that was AWESOME!
None of the other tutorials offered those chord inversions and the melody picking, and this is exactly what I (and the song) needed!
The LYRICS of this song are so important and EMOTIONAL, but sadly, the MUSIC over and over and over again and again and again is so very BORING! And especially if you are a solo act like me and there's nobody else to counter the musical BOREDOM!!
So those chord inversions you taught me are gonna COME TO THE RESCUE, and save the day!...err, save the NIGHT!
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I get the sense of what message you are trying to relay but I'm sorry Gordon Lightfoot was in excellent person musician etc and it's an insult I consider to use the word boring relating to addressing this superb song.
