I have lost two family members, both murdered in the line of duty. When both the killing were found and prosecuted there was certainly some closer. Not that closer anyone would want but closer just the same. Not knowing who killed the person you loved is a terrible feeling. It’s a bad situation all around but not knowing is worse.

It’s not easy catching these monsters, even years later and with new technology. What’s really wrong here is that a serial rapist was let out of prison. These deviants never change. These murders would not have occurred if he had not been released.

I get that but at the same time these officers werent necessarily responsible for the handling of the case in 1996 but rather decided to reopen the case when given the chance and did the best they could with that possibility..and also at that time there was a whole lot less advanced technology and methods etc with regards to dna-analysis and the way dna was collected on a widespread level. This guy unfortunately was never called to answer for what he did, but i feel that the fact that everyone now KNOWS he was responsible for this act and it didnt remain a secret that he took with him in his death, helps a little bit. Also he died lonely, pathetic, in a concrete box, having contributed nothing to the world except pain, as the waste of space he was. He wont be remembered and wont be missed and his secret is out now. That is as much justice as could be given i am afraid

It can mean the difference between getting a life sentence with or without parole, so it's good to tack it on if possible. A protected class consists of groups of people who are frequently targeted with violence motivated by hatred for that group of people.
If the motive for the crime was hatred for gay people, for example, then that crime is a hate crime.
A hate crime is not a stand-alone charge. It's an enhancement that is tacked on to the crime committed.
