Replace the doors, pull out/replace/weld the pillar, then give it back to him. This lovely Subaru deserves another chance! Full 6sp swap wouldn't hurt either..
I have to comment again. You’re a smart guy and excellent mechanic, I know you can replace or pull that B-Pillar and change the doors. Then have the car retitled as a reconstructed vehicle and then you can eventually get the car back to your friend. This car is way to nice to become a parts donor. I know you can do this!!!
What a lovely tribute to an absolute workhorse of a vehicle! Old Red served its family faithfully. As for what keepsake to make, my idea is to mount the iconic hawkeye grill (all 3 parts including the front Subaru badge) on a wall plaque alongside the owner's and rear Subaru badges.
I really appreciate the care that went into this video. I had a bad encounter with a deer recently that took out my WRX wagon of nearly the same vintage (and about half the miles). I would give your friend the steering wheel separate from any other shadowbox thing you might do. I had a lot of fun as a kid playing with the steering wheel from my dad's old MG. You could also shadowbox the oil cap and write up a certificate or plaque with the mileage achieved as a testament to the care and attention to detail poured into the car.
I own an '07 Impreza 2.5i SE. The car has held up remarkably well, especially for being a S. Arizona vehicle.. The only issues that have arisen came after a reputable (supposedly) garage worked on it. The crystal gray metallic paint is in good/excellent condition courtesy of hand washing and waxing, and regular maintenance has taken care of the rest. I purchased this car with only 5 miles on the odometer, and I've never looked back. I have 18 or so years on you, Mr. Subaru; but I've learned much from your videos. 😎
Sad story. My first car was a 2005 Legacy, 2.5i, owned it for almost 2 years. Cray lady totaled it making a left turn. Took care of the car like it was the only car I could ever own. All fluids changed, preventative maintenance, winter ready with new tires. Totalled on a sunny January day. Then I it started to snow hard, and I got a rental mazda 3. I understood what it was to not have AWD, I own AWD vehicles exclusively, no excuses. I could not get out of my driveway to give mom a ride from work on that FWD mazda 3. I knew how spoiled I was before. But every loss makes space for something new. Bought same sedan but 2007 Legacy. It was a stopgap. I did not get the same feel that I had in my previous car, despite numerous improvements in the car's design. It was only months later that I bought a 1992 SVX, and one year ago 1996 JDM SVX. I kept the grill and the keys off of my original 2005 Legacy. They are still hanging in my garage, as though they will be picked up once more one day. Even the battery in the remote is fresh. Same trinket left on its chain, untouched. I even wrote a brief story and a farewell message in the back of its user manual, in case someone ever buys the wreckage. With all maintenance Km stats, fluids used, parts replaced. All recorded. Kept with respect, I did all I could do. No regrets. Rest in Pepperoni little legacy.
Best looking 325K miles Subi I've seen so far.. definitely must do an iconic pic/plaque to include maybe a collage of some of the owner's pic memories with the car, like racing, iconic scenery visited with the car, events, etc. Also include the Subaru front badge, the car's vin plate number, trunk honor badges, and keys.. Side note: My '01 Forester SF was totaled too by a girl that t-boned spinning me around 180 degrees. That was a few months after I had just overhauled its motor. I still miss the Forester, it saved my life. These are very strong cars..
What an amazing, meticulously cared for car. Stark contrast to the '10 Forester I test drove yesterday, with rust on the inside of the car, the aroma of burning oil, and a shimmy at 40 mph that only got worse.
I had a 07 wagon and loved it but Hurricane Sandy ate it for lunch under 7ft of water. Was built super well, very solid little car! Very little people know they had aluminum hoods, which I thought was very cool at the time if my memory serves me correctly.
For a keepsake, maybe a shadow box with the badges, VIN plate, a photo, and maybe even the gauge cluster? I think it'd be cool if you could power the cluster in the shadow box but I'm not sure how feasible that is.
Don’t give up on the car! It’s easy to give up , your not one of them! Keep on wrenching it’s rough when it happens. Anything is fixable, except lives bones are good give it some love.
Looking back, I should have kept the steering wheel of my 2003 WRX and hung it on the wall in the garage with the vanity plate (2003WRX) from Michigan. Sold it to a guy with a BRZ - he does not drive BRZ in winter salt so wanted a beater for winter. Had 225,000 on it. Rusted very bad from rear struts back. Changed timing belt at 120,000. Otherwise just routine maintenance. Best car ever and the fun factor on snowy roads was the best. Long comment I know.
great video. thanks for producing/posting. shadow box with the following arranged aesthetically inside: a picture of the driver side of car, the Subaru rear badge, the Subaru trunk badges (1st subaru, 100K, etc) and the key fob and key.
Anybody else's brain take a minute to realize he doesn't have a car that "Brian O'Connor" owned? I clicked this so fast but as soon as I realized I couldn't stop watching. Love the car and the story and made me miss my manual 2.5i Hawkeye.
I bought a 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5 used at 36,000 miles. Between 36,000 and 200,000 miles I had to replace a part to the A/C and replace the timing belt, 1 headlight, along with maintenance. At 200,000 the valves in the head went bad and I had the headers replaced with new ones. It doesn’t leak or use oil. It’s now running just as great as it did when it was a year old. My car has no rust. I take it to the car wash to clean the undercarriage. I wish to hang on to this car until Subaru can perfect a duel fuel or electric car for the next decade.
I kinda wish I could have seen the video from Sunday because I'm curious! Anyways what you could do is take the front clip and make it into a poster kinda thing like its the front part taken out and glues to a board to resemble the front of it. I hope everyone was ok from the wreck it looks like the Subaru did a good job of protecting his daughter!
I’d say the gauge cluster neatly fitted on a finished piece of stained wood, with some sort of power going to it to make the odo and the gauge lights light up, would make a great monumental piece for him. Would be something he could put above the fire place or a desk as a great conversation piece.
Love it! My 06 2.5i 4eat is no where near as clean and its at 160,000! Make a shaddow box with a picture in the background. subaru emblem. vin tag. keys. plate. #1 badge. etc
Thanks for posting. Really classic styling on that year Impreza. Sorry to see that it got hit so hard. Seeing how clean that engine looks impressive. Sorry I'm short on any ideas. Maybe a Ko Ken z series spinning wrench with a few lug nuts. Safe travels all.
I have the same car, red hawkeye, 2007, manual transmission. I was thinking about converting it into a kit car. Factory five 818. Your friend would love it.
When you said "owned" I thought you were going to say something happened to Brian. 1) take the grill, mount it on a red body panel, rivet the ID plate to the panel, add the ownership badges. Present him with a wall-hanging art piece. 2) fix it and give it back to him.
I currently own and daily the exact same car, mine is an 07 though and it's Newport Blue, 2.5i Premium with 176,000 miles, 5 speed manual, I love my car so I can understand how you all feel
Keep the steering wheel and front drivers seat. He can put the steering wheel on a nice piece of stained wood along with the emblems. Front seat can be used to watch tv or game. Just my thoughts
I think your off to a good start of ideas. I like the idea of a wall display. Like if you could take the back of the car and mount it. Could even get like a vinyl wall decal that matches the car and put it on a backer board, put his contributions from the actual car and stick them to the decal? I do have to say it's always sad to see a good solid vehicle be taken out like that!
Will the instrument cluster fit inside the center grille section? That would be cool as it’s own shadow box. Then add a transformer to power up the cluster and show the mileage!
If a car is that sentimental surely it's worth getting it on a jig to straighten it out? Do as much as you can yourself and its surprisingly inexpensive as I found out myself 👌 if he doesnt want that to be done then I reckon take steering wheel and instrument cluster out, mount them together so it looks like it did when driving then stick some lights in the cluster to make it light up the same colour and mount it on the wall
Whoa!!! A Hawkeye! let’s not forget Brian’s daughter and of course his family got their moneys worth: the Subaru kept her safe and she wasn’t harmed or hospitalized right? I would say have The daughter take a picture next to the car (if she is ok with it) and then keep the key fob, tool kit in the trunk spare tire (I kept the Philips/flat head screw driver in the original Subaru bag it arrived from the 07 TR Urban Gray Metallic) I kept the owners manual, some spare parts, radiator fluid (it’s the green 50/50 mix even though I can’t use it’s still in the car in case I have to use it although hopefully won’t ever haha). Damn sorry to hear that happened. I lost the Subie from a crazy lady trying to make a left turn with a flashing yellow light and she crashed head on right into me. Thank the good lord the car kept me safe and I walked from that awful accident. I was more pissed off at the at fault driver for wrecking the car because had that not happened, I’d still be driving it. But at least now they may have a reason to get another Subaru right? The TR had those really cool red brake calipers and the Symmetrical AWD sticker just above the brake light in the rear (if it’s possible save the sticker if it’s still there and salvageable.) Great great great engine and trans! A true testament if properly maintained and driven well, the car can last 200-300k miles easy. Save the Subaru emblem from the front grill too those are awesome! Thanks for sharing and I hope others will be considerate to you too as you’ve opened the doors to your home to let everyone see. Keep up the good work always and Merry Christmas 🎄!
Something to do with the odometer. Like a small trinket maybe solder in a battery tray to have an always powered on odometer of that many miles lol This car is 100 times cleaner than mine at 141k. I do get salt but. Mines also blown up haha Love the video
Nice video and a testament to how we become attached to our Subaru cars. My idea would be to try and incorporate the distinctive door handles. I always think a cars door handle is kind of like it’s handshake, it should tell you something about the vehicle. Today they are all much the same but back in the days of old red, the Impreza handles were a little different, and your buddy would have pulled on that handle millions of times in the cars life. What better part to keep?
Make a shadow box with the steering wheel the Subaru logo in the top spoke of the steering wheel and possible the vent covers In the other two. The keys and the vin plate at the bottom.
If you take care of them they run forever and I use the fender tag and ownership badgering and the logo from the grill and or trunk with one key in a wall disp
You may recall me with my old blobleye 2003 WRX wagon with 200k miles. I think you should try to keep it running but turn it into a fully working rally car, maybe just pop a roll cage in there? I guess I don't know the extent of the actual damage. Or it could be a track weapon? Is the frame bent? straighten it out, a couple of new doors, some racing seats.... seems like such a waste to part out. Or find another hawkeye with a blown engine and swap it out and paint it red? (please forgive me, I'm also getting emotional here)
Yah, I just looked again. Pull the doors , remove door panels, knock the dents out. get a side pull on the unibody for about 2 hours, put the panels back on and get the doors to function and seal, get some body work, paint with Duplicolor from O'Reilly and keep on driving. If it's not perfect, it will still drive for many years. That's all I've got. Perfect for $3000 ... back yard autobody is what you need.
@@MrSubaru1387 Yah, anything can be fixed but sometimes it just isn't worth the hours and parts. Thanks for all the advice you give. What do you think about my 5 sp on the WRX that shifts perfectly in the cold in becomes very notchy when warm?
Repair the damage and park it as a “Rare use only” car. I am now at 216,000 miles on my outback and still going strong and new looking. My outback is going into a storage when I get ready to park it for “Rare use only” at around 500,000 miles.
How much would it cost you to fix and give it back? Maybe your subscribers can help with getting it fixed! That would be amazing the car looks in exceptionally good condition!!
Fix the damage and make this your daily driver and see how long it it can run before the engine or transmission gives out. Let’s see how long a properly maintained Subaru can run.
Thats a really clean car, i saw wrx or sti with 20 000miles way way more dirtyer than that car. It's a very good exemple of what you can expect when you take care of your car. Very sad for the passenger side...
My 06 2.5i’s alternator is missing a piece in the exact spot as the one on this 2.5i😂😂 I’m sure it’s fixed by now on yours but still a funny coincidence 🍻
One of my shop class teachers in high school had a cylinder out of a Chevy big block V8 as a paperweight on his desk, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I don't know if you want to tear the engine apart, but if you're going to pull it to sell the cylinder heads, maybe?
I have a 2006 Impreza Sportswagon (JDM) and I had a GC8 many years ago. If I were to say the one thing that really pops and is distinct for this car is the headlights and grille. Don't know what you could do with it tho. Maybe incorporate it into a tool wall somehow? The instrument cluster is good too, but very similar to the GC8. The Subaru emblems are m'eh.
I bought two belts to keep my pants up. They’re made from old EJ25 timing belts. Since the engine is likely to be reused, that’s not a viable option here.
Do a plaque or shadow box with the emblems and other small parts. Find one of those artist that can make art out of random stuff. Use some of the bigger pieces of the car and make some yard art.
Hi there I been watching your videos for while i really enjoyed them thank you so much,I do own same car 07 same color, but I have problem there it smokes sometimes front of car coming from bottom of the engine between the headers please help there no leeks or whatever ever ,thank you so much
Potentially something with that long runner NA manifold? Those are very nice especially done up on other Subaru’s. Sweet example of a nice maintenance record Subaru.
can you make a knife out of it? I had a 70 Olds cutlass that was in my family for a long time, I'm taking part of it and part of my 99 dakota (still running strong) and getting a knife made
Fix it! Don't look at and say it's unfortunate. Just because the dealership totalled her out doesn't mean you have to. All you need is 2 doors, that piece of pillar, and maybe, maybe just maybe have someone barely use a truck winch to pull on it a tiny bit. Easy peasy fix
😮😮 I have exact same car except yours is its cleaner and mine washt t boned. I know video is very old my first seeing this. Its 8/31/24 If your parting the car out would you let go rear struts and rear drivers tailight.
Replace the doors, pull out/replace/weld the pillar, then give it back to him.
This lovely Subaru deserves another chance!
Full 6sp swap wouldn't hurt either..
Exactly my thoughts. If not registrable - amateur track, rally-cross car with a manual swap of course (6speed is an overkill for non turbo subaru)
I agree, there’s now way I’d let that car just die. I’d fix it.
6 speed would choke the weak ej253
@growingup4487 what does that even mean?! 😂😂😂
You cant put a price on sentimental value, this needs to be done
@@maybenot6075 , I agree 100%. There’s no way I would let that nice car just die.

The Akagi Red Suns sticker on the window!! Fellow initial D fan spotted.

A very touching story, Mr. Subaru--- 'Man and Machine as One'
Sending you warm thoughts from Canada----

I still have my 03 Forester. Has 152,700 miles. Bought it new and still runs great with a few improvements.
Beautiful Subaru Impreza, Makes me proud to own a Subaru. I loved the video, Thank you for sharing your knowledge about the Subaru Brand.
Such a cleannnn EJ253. I went crazy seeing the engine bay. This makes me very happy. Can’t wait to see what you do with it man!
What an amazing, meticulously cared for car. Stark contrast to the '10 Forester I test drove yesterday, with rust on the inside of the car, the aroma of burning oil, and a shimmy at 40 mph that only got worse.
Love is really what makes a subaru a subaru.
I had a 07 wagon and loved it but Hurricane Sandy ate it for lunch under 7ft of water. Was built super well, very solid little car! Very little people know they had aluminum hoods, which I thought was very cool at the time if my memory serves me correctly.

That’s incredible! My old 2008 LL Bean Outback is still running strong.
I love high mileage cars, I think they are so special.
Don’t give up on the car! It’s easy to give up , your not one of them! Keep on wrenching it’s rough when it happens. Anything is fixable, except lives bones are good give it some love.
Great video. I believe most of us watching have a strong sentimental value placed on our vehicles that treat us right.

Thank you for sharing your work with us!
Even totaled, it’s in better shape than most New England Subarus.
I have a 2011 Impreza with 325k on it. Constantly checking and adding oil since 30k miles due to oil consumption. Changed all fluids every 75k.
I kinda wish I could have seen the video from Sunday because I'm curious! just suggesting Turn the back seats into a small couch 🛋️
He could put it in his garage or his man cave or a gaming room.
Fix it and give it all back! It ain’t that bad!
nice to see subaru lasting like mine i own a 96 legacy outback 2.2 with 341k

Wow, as an owner of a 2006 Impreza with 150k less miles, that car is super clean. He definitely needs those badges back.
I had a 2007 2.5i in black. It was my first subaru and my first new car also.
Wow, that’s a clean car. To bad you can’t make it road worthy. 307k on my old Outback. Still have it. Tough one my friend. ✌🏻
Turn the rally pig mirror housing into a shadowbox to hold badges or whatever. Replace with a narrower mirror when you rebuild it into a rally car.
Awesome. How bout a lock box that uses the car key to open, and has the emblem on the outside. That way it can be used for something else!
For Brian I’d do a shadow box with the grille emblem , his badges, and the steering wheel.
+1
When you said "owned" I thought you were going to say something happened to Brian.
1) take the grill, mount it on a red body panel, rivet the ID plate to the panel, add the ownership badges. Present him with a wall-hanging art piece.
2) fix it and give it back to him.
Wait.... Brian isn't a Canon guy? Psha.... give him the key and half the fob.
😂 😂 😂
I would say make a Keychain from one of the emblems. That way hes always got a part of it with him.
This was my first car from dealer and first Subie. I superchargered it at 15k and it lasted till 144k before swapping with a jdm long block.
Still have my red not gonna sell her.
Pull the engine, empty it, polish it and make some supports to a glass table top for a coffee table testament to all those memorable miles.
pulling the ID plate is cool maybe mount that in the center grill piece
Our shop car is a 2001 forester 5 speed with 421k still drives great
I know nothing but I can't help but imagining trying to weld a new piece of the frame to it
I currently own and daily the exact same car, mine is an 07 though and it's Newport Blue, 2.5i Premium with 176,000 miles, 5 speed manual, I love my car so I can understand how you all feel
I would make a nice photo montage of the car and include the vin plate, owner badges on the trunk along with the key.
Keep the steering wheel and front drivers seat. He can put the steering wheel on a nice piece of stained wood along with the emblems. Front seat can be used to watch tv or game. Just my thoughts

Roof is buckled/shifted. Windshield cracked from impact/shift. It's not as mind as it looks.
@@MrSubaru1387 Yah, anything can be fixed but sometimes it just isn't worth the hours and parts. Thanks
for all the advice you give. What do you think about my 5 sp on the WRX that shifts perfectly in the cold in becomes
very notchy when warm?
@@jeffkundert9458 odd, normally it's the opposite. What gear oil are you running? Age of oil?
Repair the damage and park it as a “Rare use only” car. I am now at 216,000 miles on my outback and still going strong and new looking. My outback is going into a storage when I get ready to park it for “Rare use only” at around 500,000 miles.
I am a big believer in getting the steering wheel out. You can make a table lamp with it.
The oil filler cap cleaned up and frame. ( that is the main reason for it's long life )
How much would it cost you to fix and give it back? Maybe your subscribers can help with getting it fixed! That would be amazing the car looks in exceptionally good condition!!
No clue. They can't locate the title on the car right now is an issue.
make something out of the oil dipstick. you know he grabbed that thing a million times at least. :)
I'd consider finding salvage doors and a vocational school to pull out the b pillar.
У меня точно такая же Suba red mica 2.0r , очень люблю ее прекрасный авто)
Mines like this accept coil overs roof vane spoiler 18” mesh mono block wheels and a jdm AVLS motor.
You should take the subi logo and make it a magnet
I miss those older, simple interiors. Not the same but very similar to my 01. Maybe work something in from the interior.
Repair as best as you can and drive it!
Maybe a plaque with a VIN tag and the Subaru badges of ownership?
Shadow box with an emblim..... Backround pic of odometer?
My 06 2.5i’s alternator is missing a piece in the exact spot as the one on this 2.5i😂😂 I’m sure it’s fixed by now on yours but still a funny coincidence 🍻
If the original window tag is still in it, that should go as well.
I’d make a set of dog tags out of that metal ID plate under the hood.
Cut the rear end off & make a couch for Brian!
They make some pretty big bikes now. Could have been a highway bike
I had a 70 Olds cutlass that was in my family for a long time, I'm taking part of it and part of my 99 dakota (still running strong) and getting a knife made
Pls help me with my Subaru forester, its loosing power and sudden stops.
A San Remo Red tube frame dune buggy?
It is an impressive car in terms of mileage and appearance, but send your friend nothing from this car. Only continue (I hope) to be a true friend.
Fix it! Don't look at and say it's unfortunate. Just because the dealership totalled her out doesn't mean you have to. All you need is 2 doors, that piece of pillar, and maybe, maybe just maybe have someone barely use a truck winch to pull on it a tiny bit. Easy peasy fix
Where would I install an air oil separator on my 2006 2.5i? Between the pcv valve and the intake chamber?
Is fixing it again not a option?
😮😮 I have exact same car except yours is its cleaner and mine washt t boned.
I know video is very old my first seeing this. Its 8/31/24
If your parting the car out would you let go rear struts and rear drivers tailight.
Still have the car. Unfortunately haven’t done a thing with it.
