It wasn't Pete Burns. Steve Coy (also of Dead Or Alive) went on record years later to specifically say that this and another PWL record, "Pistol In Your Pocket" by Lana Pellay, were NOT sung by Pete. Apparently they were asked about both tracks for years, so you're not alone in thinking it was him. (Did wonder myself for a long time!) Pete actually had a deeper, richer, much more musical singing voice than this guy IMO.

Never really thought about it much to be honest, but after your question (and seeing as how it's a global pandemic and I've lots of time on my hands!) I did a little digging, and here's what I've come up with: I mentioned the Lana Pellay song "Pistol in your Pocket", I managed to find a video of Alan Pillay (Lana's male persona, self-described as having two genders, just to be clear) singing "Higher The Wall To Climb" and his singing voice is actually quite different to his speaking voice (which can be heard in the movie "Eat the Rich), not entirely unlike a certain Mr. Burns in fact! The similarities and differences are both even more pronounced on her (Lana's) follow-up single (also PWL), so I'm convinced at this point that the vocals on both those records are her own. As for Michael Prince, I'm sure I'm not the only one to come up empty handed after searching the 'net for any reference to him other than this, his one and only record - is it possible that it's actually HIM doing the vocals!?? I mean, let's be honest, if you were going to get a session singer to ghost sing your record, couldn't you get someone who'd do a better job?? Pete Burns was a MUCH better vocalist than this guy, whoever he was. Anyway, that's as much info as I can come up with. If anyone knows differently, would love to hear it!
