Few animals in modern zoos have to spend their entire lives behind bars and in the best cases, they can move around in spacious artificial landscapes based on their natural habitats. The World Zoo Conservation Strategy stipulates that the main priority of zoos today should be nature and species conservation and public awareness. So how effective are they at this?

The finest report on zoos and the changes in how they house and display their animals; I have ever seen, I would love to visit the Leipzig Zoo. Our world would be poorer, as a people we would be less sensitive to animals in the wild, if Zoos did not exist. Very Well done, DW

I am happy finally someone takes care of the Sumatran Rhino. With just ca. 50 left of this prehistoric creature it is frightening to see the rainforest getting cut down in Indonesia and them being poached for Chinese Uneffective Medicine.

There should be no photography of certain animals that don't like the screens and bright lights. Museums do the same for art. Also limited or scheduled viewing of animals who don't like big crowds and put the people in a more discrete viewing area

There is an organization that denounces zoos, but at the same time recklessly euthanizes 85.5% of animals they have "rescued". The organization is called PETA.
