It's pretty incredible to see the fahaka with those tank mates. I have a 10" fahaka that is an absolute killer. He can't go with anything. And I've really tried but no luck.
I think it luck on personality with to as well as being well fed and if they stay out of his personal space he calls his own I reckon leave them well alone probably males and females to I reckon males more aggressive most of the time I seen some with guppies other bigger puffers plenty of plants to hide will help stop them fighting it one of them with fish it either works out for you or it don’t
Wow. One of the coolest videos you guys have posted. Lamont has a very cool and unique style. Great looking cat, love your random orchids everywhere, and to top it off, a Captain Harlock poster. One day I will have to fly to Washington to visit the Co-Op. Keep it up guys!
I like the water change dates on the side of the tanks. I do the same but instead write it in with dry erase markers so I don't forget when I did a water change.
Great Review on tanks. I am still a newbie only since October 2022. I started with a Betta. I have a 5G sitting outside in the porch waiting to water test it before bringing it in and getting it up on the stand. We still have had a few just below freezing nights to take a chance. Meanwhile, I am still debating on the substrate layers and aquascaping. I kinda like the Spiderwood, but my net gets caught on it. So, I may just settle on generic Driftwood a Mopani Driftwood because of the tannins because of my Betta. It is just going to be a Freshwater Community with not being fully stocked. Iistening to Lamont and you Cory, I need to start fertilizing more on a weekly basis. Great tank layouts. Thanks for the tour.
This is a super old video... but I watch this and all I can think is that Lamont seems like that friend that's so awesome that you brag about being friends with them. lol. Makes sense that he's an artist though. Attention to tiny details that few people will notice is a unique, but necessary quality for both art and crazy-awesome fish, plant, or random/obscure creature-keeping. :P
I have just watched this video from start to finish for at least the fifth time. Sure do miss real fish talk with Lamont! it is amazing how far you have come Cory, keep it up!
Love your Rancho. I had one just like him, named Woolsey. He died when he was 5 years old due to Dropsy. I isolated him in a hospital aquarium and pulled out all the stops trying to save him. In hindsight, my aggressive attempts to save him might have contributed to his untimely demise. I have since given up on keeping exotic goldfish. I used to keep them in a highly filtered 75 gallon aquarium...nothing but sorrows. I added some fancy goldfish to my 2000 gallon koi pond (I live in Zone 7, plus I HEATED the pond at great expense)...only to have a Blue Heron pick these clumsy swimming fish off in a single workday.😭
Great variety and aquascaping. Clean style and put together well. The monos were a great touch. Should have shipped the extras to me! I'm curious about the Betta rescue tank...what is the benefit of the "green water"? The tannins must have a therapeutic effect? What's the theory behind his method? Or, why that method instead of clean water with frequent water changes?
+Iowa Discus So green water is used to raise championship koi and guppies. The thought is that because there is so much algae it strips ammonia/nitrates out of the water almost instantly always. On top of that because there is so much algae the fish ingest some with everything they eat really intensifying their colors and giving them vitamins that some carnivores wouldn't normally get. Water changes are also done.
I once got Phoenix moss by collecting driftwood from a river in Michigan. The wood was perfectly clear an in about 6 months I had a completely covered peice without even trying.
Nice to see tanks integrated into a house setting which is what most folks have. Like the rescue efforts being made; and the experimentation that seems to be who Lamont is. What a cool guy!
+Nicks Exotics I agree. He's been sick as a dog this week, so it looks like we'll have a video coming up without him, but if he gets better in time to film, we'll get ya more Lamont :)
I have a 30gallon tank with just 10 pink zebra danios.. With some java ferns and lucky bamboo + pothos plant on the overhead filter... How many more fish can i put in there? I would like schooling fish and maybe a couple of gouramis and SAEs.. Any suggestions please? Thank you!
@23.14 Lamont says converting plants from metal halide +co2 back to normal light without co2, i have done it with great success by running a 200 watt cfl designed for normal plants. they do fine with no co2 as long as enough light is there, they grow slow, but u can lower the light back to T5/T8`s over time, i just run the 200 watt for fewer hours per day as the plants come around to the new setup. hope this helps any1 trying to convert plants as a lot of shops run co2 with high light, but when u get the into ur normal setup they slowly die away over 2-3 weeks
I'm really fascinated by his 29 gallon cichlid and musk turtle combo tank. You'd think it would be a bloodbath but they seem perfectly content. And he's only running it with two HOB filters, too. I'm wondering about how he has no basking area or UVB for the turtle--clearly its working well for him, but I'd be curious to hear what he has to say about that.
Hey there so I have a 20 gallon pea puffer tank with only 1 pea puffer and he doesnt finish all his food no matter how much I feed so would it work to put baby clown loaches in with him for a while until the clown loaches outgrow 20 gallons?
Cool video! I love seeing how people's fish rooms are set up - gives me ideas for when my hubby and I cave in and do this ourselves lol. One question - Lamont mentioned the filter on his planted tank - he 'took out the inserts and filled it with bio rings'. What does that mean, exactly? O.o Sorry for the noob questions, but we have only been fish-people since June 2015 and we are still learning ^.^
+Kathy Lynn Maracle Oh, it means that we take out the "replacement cartridges" and fill it with reusable media so we're not killing the environment and the tank runs more stable because of it.
Thank you for the answer! OK So you knew this was coming - have you guys ever posted how to do this as a Tuesday Tip? Cuz now I am intrigued....and many people new to the hobby don't want to kill the environment, we just don't know there is an alternative :D
so this guy has FIVE pea puffers in a 10g.. I thought not to go more than 2 in a 10g, and then with 2 you run the risk of aggression. Maybe 3 would be a good number for a 10g? or better for 1 puffer in a 5g? would it get lonely or bored by itself?
Hi cory...i was wondering if u can put an angel fish and a redtail rainbow fish shark in a community tank with neon tetras, guppys, molly and pleco? If not y? Wat one is promblamatic?
I flowered a Madagascar lace plant once an pollinated with another flower from a sword plant an the lace plant started having babies. I felt like a smart guy back then. I used 150wt metal halide
I am very envious of Lamont's toy and fish collection. Would love to see an update about his whole set up - you had his turtles a while ago, did he move?
I totally agree with what he said about goldfish. I have four living together in a bare bottom, no decor tank with two sponge filters (and two HOB aquaclear). I have to consistently watch them because they somehow get stuck behind the sponge filters or they’ll swim into my thermometer and freak out. 🙄
Wow!! Blown away by your Fahaka puffer tank. I kept one of these guys from 1999-2005. I killed everything unable to get away. I only had success with an evil jewel cichlid, mean Chinese algae eater lots of pvc tubing for them to dart to quickly to get away. The puffer would interact with me and splash water at my roommate who he splashed every time he walked by. I tried giant danios (eaten), tinfoil barbs (eaten), green terror (eaten)….How did you get your puffer to not destroy the fish and plants?? Mine dig up everything!!
Hi, GREAT video!! I love to see what you guys have at home. I am very very interested on what Lamont keeps his betta's in when they are sick. What is that "magic mess" (LOL). Please be specific as I am leaning toward keeping more betta's then regular tropical fish. Please be as specific as you can as I want to replicate a tank like that. I lost one beautiful betta recently and I was very disturbing watching him suffer as I was desperate to save him and nothing I did worked. I also have carnivorous plants and love them. By the way that cat is STUNNING! At one point he/she almost stole the show!
+Destiny's Pet Project Dog Rescue I'll try and get Lamont on here to comment once he beats this flu. But basically that tank is green water, with tanins from catappa leaves. A small hang on back for some very slow water movement. And feeding well with live black worms. Yeah his cat is nice :)
+Aquarium Co-Op Ok. Great. Thanks. But just how does he get the water green? I know how to get rid of algae ( I can only grow the red, pink or brown kind. I cannot grow the green kind) But how does one actually grow it and make the water green? All my betta's eat mostly frozen black worms and frozen brine shrimp with some pellets but not much. Thanks so much for your time.
Either getting a starting culture of green water from someone else or you can try to make your own by putting some dirty tank water in a Jar and putting it in a window or anywhere where it will get a lot of light might be enough to get it started for ya.
+Aquarium Co-Op ok. Great. Thanks for all your time. I have two last question. Does the Potho's plant rot after a while when it is submerged? What are good tank makes for dwarf pea puffers to keep the tank tidy and clean?
Pothos does best with some of it's leaves out of water. And for pea puffers, they tend to nip on everything so it can be hard to find good tank mates for them unless you use larger tanks.
The green water, out of what i can tell, isn't a tannin in the water but a fully suspended algae that has taken over the tank. It is very beneficial in reducing nitrates and best used in outdoor ponds as it thrives best in colder water
Can you guys recommend some LED lights to replace T5 bulbs? I've a planted Fluval Vicenza 260 Limited and want more light with less power and heat. I've been looking to see if there is anything that can replace a T5 directly with the same fittings but unfortunately not.
+Aquarium Co-Op easy for you to say, since you don't live in Canada.. lol I can't even find them around here let alone afford them. ordering online ends up costing way too much for me. I'm experimenting with some par 38 LEDs right now
Oh yes, in Canada you're going to have a problem. Hmm. I'm not sure what to recommend up there. Perhaps an aquasky led? I know you have some ADA retailers up there at least in Vancouver.
Yeah aquasky is probably the best bet. I kinda gave up on a fancy proper LED fixture a while ago, so i started playing with these par 38s, the work good but due to the 35 degree beam angle they need to be at least a foot above the tank to get any sort of coverage. Great if you dont care about looks(its just a plant grow out tank anyways). They do throw light to the bottom of the tank no problem though! I should talk to my LFS about finnex, its worth a try i guess. Philips also makes t8 direct plug and play LED bulbs, 6500k, 2100 lumens, CRI was fairly high too. But they dont seem to be readily available in north america yet.
I keep a fish log in a spiral notebook and put water change days on my calendar. I have four aquariums mad my kids each have an aquarium too. I have 23 gallon Fancy Goldfish tank, a 4.5 gallon Betta tank, a 3.5 Betta and a 2.7 gallon Betta tank now and that makes it easier to keep track of them. I also help my autistic 15 year old son with his 2 gallon Dwarf Aquatic Frog tank, in his room and my daughter with her 8.5 gallon White Cloud Mountain Minnow tank. My 11 year old daughter is Autistic and has her own note boook she writes and draws in about her White clouds, my goldfish and Bettas and her a brothers dwarf frogs, the nitrogen cycle, and water testing for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates and ph. ;D
Wow great stuff! It's nice to see some very interesting fish combos and tanks that look lived in and aren't so "sterile" looking. Lamont's collections are very cool too(right up my alley) and his art work is amazing! Very talented dude. What's his address by the way...so I can steal all his stuff...

@Aquarium Co-op what's the big, beautiful silver fish with the bright fins in the Fahaka community tank?
MURPHY IS A KING.
WHAT ABOUT THE UPDATE MAN?!
We now have (and in the case of my home, check the live stream daily) a stream for the champ.
But this particular hobbyist, knocks it out of the park.
Not asking for commissions.
Just
An
Update!
Puhleez!!??
Lamont is seriously an amazing artist, and I love his fish tanks too. Thanks for sharing with us!
i can definitely say i have never seen some tanks set up like that.he has a very artistic touch on things
Never thought I'd sit and watch a fish room video in full. I thoroughly enjoyed this video especially the Fahaka. Thanks again!!!
It's pretty incredible to see the fahaka with those tank mates. I have a 10" fahaka that is an absolute killer. He can't go with anything. And I've really tried but no luck.
RIP for the test fish
that fakah wont bin in that tank long. it is probably well fed though. thats the only thing i can think of
I think it luck on personality with to as well as being well fed and if they stay out of his personal space he calls his own I reckon leave them well alone probably males and females to I reckon males more aggressive most of the time I seen some with guppies other bigger puffers plenty of plants to hide will help stop them fighting it one of them with fish it either works out for you or it don’t
his true tomato frog set up was very interesting. I've never thought about keeping them that flooded, gonna try it out.
I like this guy he's into plants, fish, amphibians, cats... What a diversity of tanks and animals...
Cory, your videos are awesome and only getting better! +1 for Lamont also! He certainly is very talented.
Wow. One of the coolest videos you guys have posted. Lamont has a very cool and unique style.
Great looking cat, love your random orchids everywhere, and to top it off, a Captain Harlock poster. One day I will have to fly to Washington to visit the Co-Op.

+SoCal Steve We're just guys who like fish who like to talk a lot :P Come hang out any time.
I like the water change dates on the side of the tanks. I do the same but instead write it in with dry erase markers so I don't forget when I did a water change.

Love the art. The Monos look amazing.
Wow, some amazing tanks. Playing by his own rules and nailing it.
I especially love Lamont's frog :)
This is a super old video... but I watch this and all I can think is that Lamont seems like that friend that's so awesome that you brag about being friends with them. lol. Hey thats a nice paphiopedium orchid right there.
I have just watched this video from start to finish for at least the fifth time. Sure do miss real fish talk with Lamont! it is amazing how far you have come Cory, keep it up!
I still hope to do some more work with Lamont :)
A cat makes every video 20% more wholesome.
When the turtles were backing up I went beep beep beep in my head
lol
Love your Rancho. I had one just like him, named Woolsey.

WOW that planted tank is amazing. Nice vid
Didn't know pothos could do so well underwater
that's anubias! looks like coffeefiola maybe.
I think they were talking about the pea puffer tank. Definitely pothos submerged
@@joshuastover1047 yup at 20:52
lamont don't worry about dusting; it adds patina to the collection !!!! you are very talented !!! :)
Lovely beautiful gorgeous fish and great plants and puffers like Murphy great artist too
That Fahaka puffer tank is amazing 😱
What a great video of the coolest fish house I’ve ever seen! I had my wife watch this and we’re going to go Lamont at our house
WHAT!!! 😮 That Fahuka puffer tank is AMAZING! ! 💕🐡
#BucketList
Holy cow that was a ton of blackworms at once!
Great variety and aquascaping. Clean style and put together well.

+Aquarium Co-Op Cool. Makes sense to me.
Love the halfmoon tanks, or bowfront makes things inside look xtra beautiful and larger! Also what kind of puffer is that. What tank recommendations?
whoa, his house has such a cool vibe, and gorgeous tanks:D
Me at 2am:I should go to sleep I have to be up in 5 hours for work
Also me: I haven't seen this fish video yet.
Im watching at 4am, 😃
i love his art work and the tanks, thanks for sharing, very nice!!👍👍
I once got Phoenix moss by collecting driftwood from a river in Michigan. The wood was perfectly clear an in about 6 months I had a completely covered peice without even trying.
Wow i realy like your artwork Lamont!!!
Why do those pea puffers look huge to me. Is mine just stunted. I've had her for a year lol
I could hang out with this guy LOL
Oldies but still goodies. Thanks Coopy.
Hey Great Video!! Love the art work! Watch all your stuff!
Nice to see tanks integrated into a house setting which is what most folks have. Like the rescue efforts being made; and the experimentation that seems to be who Lamont is. What a cool guy!
Lamont is super cool :)
I got Hillsdale loaches with mine they seem to be fine together had them that way for 4 years
Wow ... Wonderful Video! Lots of cool things to look at!!!
Love the idea of the tour this was awesome.
That peppermint dr. Broaners soap in the kitchen tho 🔥🔥
Awesome. Thank you for sharing Lamont
Great artwork ! Nice tanks 👍
WE NEED MORE LAMONT this video was awesome !!!!!!!

+timwdv Indeed, we are lucky to have him work at the shop with us.
Hey there so I have a 20 gallon pea puffer tank with only 1 pea puffer and he doesnt finish all his food no matter how much I feed so would it work to put baby clown loaches in with him for a while until the clown loaches outgrow 20 gallons?

We haven't yet, but we certainly could.
Love the artwork and the eclectic tanks
Wow what a talent! Does he do all your art designs?
Does the musk turtle need UVB and a basking platform?
Some say yes, some people breed them for years without. If you're unsure, give em a basking spot and uvb.
i've always thought black ghost knifes were super cool
thanks guys , I learned some helpful things
How old is your fahaka that's ìn the 75 gallon bow front?
I got Kuhli loaches, neon tetras, ghost shrimp and they are doing fine.
so this guy has FIVE pea puffers in a 10g.. I thought not to go more than 2 in a 10g, and then with 2 you run the risk of aggression. Maybe 3 would be a good number for a 10g? or better for 1 puffer in a 5g? would it get lonely or bored by itself?
What's that fish at 24:45 he was talking about? All i could make out was flying tail prantilotus something.
+Simen André (Sandoras) Flagtail Prochilodus
is it just me or is that 29 gal. really overcrowded?
(the one w/ the turtle under the log)
IMO all of his tanks are overcrowded. My musk turtles also enjoy basking so I’m mortified that they’re isn’t even an option for them in the tank.
Awesome!!!! Thanks Lamont!!
Hi cory...i was wondering if u can put an angel fish and a redtail rainbow fish shark in a community tank with neon tetras, guppys, molly and pleco? If not y? Wat one is promblamatic?
Neons will get eaten by angels
I flowered a Madagascar lace plant once an pollinated with another flower from a sword plant an the lace plant started having babies. I felt like a smart guy back then. I used 150wt metal halide
Everything i read says fakah as a species only tank. Apparently no problems?
I am very envious of Lamont's toy and fish collection. Would love to see an update about his whole set up - you had his turtles a while ago, did he move?
He lives in California now
sir do you used a c02 gen in all of you plant tanks?
I believe all of the tanks are without co2.
What is the fish with the big puffer that looks like a Siamese algae eater.?
Does the turtle need a place to get out of the water?
Not musk turtles they are mostly aquatic and usually never go out of water unless they are laying eggs
What are the big red leaves called in the first tank?
Don't know if anyone would read this still, but does anyone know the name of the 'white' tetras in the first tank?
AWESOME TURTLES!!!!!!!!
+Skylrrider Come do a video with me! :P
I want to!!!
I totally agree with what he said about goldfish. I have four living together in a bare bottom, no decor tank with two sponge filters (and two HOB aquaclear). yeah goldfish are lovable and derpy
How does your fahaker puffer fair in a community? And what size tank is he in?
Awesome art. What ever happened to Lamont? He was a cool dude
Cool video, enjoyed it :)
Wow!! Blown away by your Fahaka puffer tank. I kept one of these guys from 1999-2005. I killed everything unable to get away. Can I ask why you cut the beak on the puffer instead of giving it snailsfrom other tanks or some shellfish?
Because that puffer in particular wouldn't eat snails. Can't force a puffer to eat it.

The green water, out of what i can tell, isn't a tannin in the water but a fully suspended algae that has taken over the tank. It is very beneficial in reducing nitrates and best used in outdoor ponds as it thrives best in colder water

+Dave H Look on ebay. search "t5 6500k LED" mostly chinese stuff, but they are only about 10 bucks for a 2 foot bulb
+Ruzz P For an LED, I'd recommend the Finnex Stingray for lower light.
+Aquarium Co-Op easy for you to say, since you don't live in Canada.. lol I can't even find them around here let alone afford them. ordering online ends up costing way too much for me. I'm experimenting with some par 38 LEDs right now

Don't turtles need an incline to leave the water? Or is this a fully aquatic species?
Some mud turtles don't have to bask.
