- The time is almost upon us... After being announced a while back, the big rebrand for UKTV will arrive on our screens, being renamed to simply... U. Will the rebrand pay off? Will it work in the current television landscape we find ourselves in?

Who the hell thought this up? what a waste of time and money. It's been UKTV for so long it is now a recognised TV brand. This would be like the BBC changing to their channels to B1, B2, B3, B4 just would not happen or McDonalds changing their name to M. Can’t see why UKTV couldn’t do all the other changes planned under their UKTV banner. Ridiculous
UKTV is way more less known than the BBC or McDonald’s.
@@ThisChannelHasNowClosed and doesn’t matter that the BBCor McDonald’s are more well known, UKTV is still a recognised brand on sky, cable, freesat & Freeview
really isn't everyone in UK knows dave, yesterday etc as "the repeats of old shows channels" its a joke often made on IQ for example
"oh this be on dave in a few years time'
While I agree with your response, McDonald's probably could get away with changing their name to M as their M is so iconic. Unlike this decision to shorten to one letter because they've seen Elon do this to twitter.
It's Macca's here in Australia. They also rebranded UKTV to Britbox here some years ago.
Hopefully this new rebrand will do something interesting with UKTV. Though old UKTV will be missed.👍👍
It won’t make any difference whatsoever - the same old rubbish being repeated over and over again but with a rubbish rebrand
I get it’s not for you, but I’m sure there will be at least one change. Like getting more old shoes to repeat.
@@rtc9063Didn't Adam just mention that UKTV (or U) are investing in more original programmes?
NO. JUST NO. NO NO NO.
the perfect response 👍
Or rather, NU.
These companies must be shaking with fear at night unable to sleep with the anxiety that they haven't rebranded in several years and must roll out another one pronto to keep their services fresh. This is awful and unnecessary of course. What makes it worse though is that someone was brought into a room and pitched this and they decided to go ahead with it and pay that company loads of money to do it. Another case of, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
Not gonna work in Northern Ireland, with UTV... This will get lost very quickly.
Most of the things done in Britain is done without thinking that there are 6 counties at the top of Ireland that are part of the UK. First Brexit, now U...TV.
Wasn't that already swallowed up by ITV during the Pandemic?
@@MUSEIGENHonokaTV Yeah. The UTV brand is now only used on the local news programme UTV Live and another programme called UTV Life. They use the same idents as ITV1 in England and Wales.
@@MUSEIGENHonokaTV Yep, and they kept the name, google the UTV idents, or better still TH-cam it
It's been ITV1 for a while now
ILL MIS OLD UKTV BRAND 😭😭😭
If they spent all the money from the the rebrand, on their TV programs, it could be a game changer
Especially for Eden.
I hope with this rebrand, that the U & Drama channel don't get rid of showing reruns of shows like Soldier Soldier, Taggart, Call The Midwife and some of the Catherine Cookson dramas
Loving the hair!
Thank you!
U&AMTV
And the fact that TH-cam decided to give the "Translate to English" to that shows how silly it is
If only Frank Carson the NI comedian was still alive, I am sure he would of had an excellent joke or two about the changes, it’s the way I tell them in the strong Northern Ireland voice. Frank even done a Channel 4 advert in the 80’s in order to try to get adverts onto Ulster Television which is an interesting video to look at on YT.
Will be confusing for those in Northern Ireland who are well used to the UTV brand
Maybe UK TV will get Julian out of retirement for continuity announcements 😊 I doubt UK TV would have done this U thing if UTV was still in local ownership, I imagine ITV plc don’t care much for the U anymore. Although more brand confusion in NI was say U 105 radio 📻 the former radio channel of UTV plc.
What if it's not just UK with UkTv:
England-Isle of man: EMTv
Cunry-Wales: WCTv
Scotland: SlTv
Ireland-Gaelic: IGTv
Northern Ireland: NiTv
YAYYY FINALLY A NEW AMTV VIDEO !!!
Hmmm, Unliever (old logo)
I haven't been near any tv media like this in probably 15 years, but I do like a good rebrand critique. this one is wild.
At any rate, I’m looking forward to the Bergerac reboot. The original series is pretty great. Thanks.
I can understand their rationale for the rebrand, and prepending "U&" is more compact than "UKTV ", but I'm yet to be convinced by the replacement of logos with word marks and background colours...
I still call it UK GOLD
The classic 👌
i still some vhs recordings of the original ukgold, with "sparklies" all over the picture from poor reception haha
That is locked behind a paywall now.
This was the perfect time to bring W back as Watch so it could be U&Watch
That U and W Reaction
Together TV has only 1 advert Inbetween breaks. Great for Homes Under the Hammer
in other words when the channels change people CANT record programmes in advance to watch later.
Should've rebranded back to UKTV, given they've also got a steaming service with that identity.
This helps me too much. For the people who don’t know
Love the hair! Gives me early 2000's pop punk vibes
And UK G.O.L.D. will finally come clean and rename itself to U O.F.A.H. although they have promised to screen 1 hour of another sitcom every weekend (at 3-4am)
They probably should swap around some GOLD programs onto Drama as U&Drama would probably help viewership. A lot of people don’t pay the extra for GOLD and how many times can you watch the same repeats on drama.
Originally they were going to be BBC Gold BBC Horizons etc. there is a video on the 1997 rebrand and it showed logos for these. The original idents for Gold etc were the same layout as the 1997 bbc rebrand .
Why not UKDave etc that would have made far more sense. UKW would have worked well and show where most of the content comes from.
I forgot UKTV existed tbh
Now you'll remember U exists.
So no doubt the paid for channels will be under the banner title 'UPay' or 'U&Pay (for the privilege) 🙂
I own 99.99% on physical media and don't watch or bother with UKTV or it's u equivalent counter part
EPICCCCCCCCCC UKTV REBRAND
Hopefully we'll get the live channels back again in the app because the Freeview picture for Dave, W, Yesterday and Drama isn't great. The streaming versions weren't brilliant but they were better than off the aerial. I can only watch live now on my phone's UKTV app, can't anymore on Firestick, AppleTV or my LG's built in app.
U&W = U&U&U which makes me think of the Spiderman meme 😅
A re-imagining of Bergerac, So will Bergerac be a hairy black lesbian now ?
Can you really doubt that it'll be something like that?
Yay!
U GUYS READY?
Is it wrong for me to think that the cliché of You as the letter U actually works and that I've grown to kinda like it?
In a sense, yeah, it ties the streaming service and the channels together...But it could also be interpreted as tying the viewers with the content of the respective channels.
Cause it's You and Dave, You and Yesterday, You and Drama...(You and W doesn't make sense to me, either way. XD)
Hell, I fricking love the new names for some of the FAST channels as well!
I'm just wondering if it's okay for me to like this because of the cliché U = You. ^^'
Have they just dropped the UK part of their brand so they can start showing more US or other foreign content?
U&REALLY U&HOME U&GOODFOOD
You may be right in the idea of bringing everything under one recognisable brand.
But compare this to your recent video of the recent video you did of the Channel 5 branding.... This U one looks and sounds worse than any of theirs.
I think it's a very weak rebrand, but as it's by the BBC it doesn't surprise me, branding hasn't been their strong point for years now.
I guess I like it
are you doing sky showcase no longer broadcast hour of power
They’d be better dropping the name completely and rebrand it as BBC channels such as BBC Gold, BBC Drama. As has said before did nobody consider UTV in NI?
From the source, they said that if the BBC had adverts after the licence fee gets abolished, they could use the BBC branding.
Just as bad as when Gold rebranded as G.O.L.D. Go On Laugh Daily.
i thought it already happened
Maybe they'll rebrand to "Ur" for the paid channels: Ur Gold, Ur Alibi, Ur Eden
No, it's still U&. You can find them on UKTVs IPO trade marks.
First "X" now "U" the world is getting more stupid
They should just abandon it. Because it's terrible
How about ITV Changing to I. I&1, I&2, I&3, I&4 and I&Be
Yeah, they will hopefully come out next month.
@@ntvalt4361 would be cool though
Terrible branding . I can't see anyone calling these channels by their new names. People still call 'GOLD' 'UK Gold' too, which was always a better name, clearer and easier to say. Simple, clear branding and neat looking logo with a jingle is the way. But this new branding is so awkward maybe it'll stand out.
What a complete waste of time and money! They will U-turn (see what I did there?!) before long. The brand logos are SO achingly dull, that there will be no brand recognition. I really wonder what these TV execs are thinking.
I do admit that U is quite a striking brand, but I'm just not onboard with the way it mixes with the long-established individual channel identities. They all clash horribly.
Bring back UP YOUR VIVA and Sky 1
Still too close to UTV for me. Will you still refer to them as just their 'old names', Gold, Dave. W should go back to Watch, U & Watch would make more sense.
U & Dave ja vu?
There used to be a music channel called Channel U. Is it still around these days?
I think that went away a few years ago.
@@RikAindow Oh OK! Thanks for the heads up!
Also Channel U in Singapore
Any single letter branding is naff (see Elon Musk and the site almost everyone still calls Twitter). U for Useless, Unhinged and Underwhelming.
And people have actually been paid to sit in meetings and agree this stupid idea
This is a terrible idea. No one cares about the parent brand outside of on-air. It waters down establised brands that work like Dave. Still, in 5 years time someone will get the credit for putting it back the way it was.
Old Speckled Hen sponsored on Dave 2007 let's go
I have a small question, why are the idents from UK channels narrated? Like, on other countries the idents aren't narrated
Because that narration is the continuity announcer, who announces upcoming shows that will play after the ident has ended.
@@Nostalgic80s-nd3qb That's interesting, thanks for answering!
Your welcome.
Old enough to remember when they were just UK Gold :|
UKTV
"U&W" might be the worst name for a TV channel ever?? U as a rebrand makes sense but the "U&____" thing is just clunky and spoils all of the vibes each channel was going for, especially Dave.
Wii *U* moment
UKTV In 2025:
U&Windows
U&ITV
U&Adamation
U&Just For Laughs
U&Mark Goodson Television Productions
U&Carruthers Company
U&AMTV
U&The 25 KAPR-TV
putting the general 'U' thing aside, some of these channel names are pretty odd and clunky 🤔
Is Adam slowly morphing into Noel Edmonds?
Always following after Dad!
U&ZAIMESIS
Et U Dave?
My only thought is... WTF is going on with that hair?!! lol
And the small eyes.
What a stupid rebrand! - a good way to lose viewers is to do something like this
This rebranding looks so cheap
Did you recently put your fingers into a plug socket?
🥱
The new one sucks its bland and it looks like the utv
Logo old one is better
What a waste of money leave it as it is uktv play is recognised brand utterly stupid names all of them u and ...typical of BBC to waste such money
Trashy rebrand alert
Terrible
New name same old shows on a loop over and over again !! Yawn!
OMG Have you just stuck your fingers in an electrical socket or is the a hedgehog on your head ? I can't take anyone seriously that looks like someone out of a 1960s Hammer horror movie !
😂😂😂
@@AdamMartynI like the newer hair style, you must have your hair well trained and have a decent hold product in it too.
Yet another company rebranding to a single letter
X
U
They should have rebranded as Your. Your Drama, Your Alibi etc instead of U
Until recently, Bauer promoted its local radio stations at least their logos as YOUR, eg: YOUR ROCK FM, YOUR RADIO CITY, YOUR HALLAM FM, etc. I guess UKTV don't want to be associated with that mess.
@@RikAindowBBC should've sold UKTV (U) to Bauer so it isn't confusing.
The one I know is Your Radioaire
@@RikAindow And Sony did something similar with "My little Sony".
I don't think - Brits at least - like being _told_ this sort of thing; they like to decide for themselves what is theirs. It may be different in other societies (Japan maybe?).
Someone named Nintendo already tried and failed…
what?
I'd prefer "U&Watch".
I was saying that last night.
Or perhaps U&Life
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, considering what W was before its rebrand in 2016.
U and I Watch. More cosy 😊
@@neilgodwin6531 Fits well with one of the channel's older catchphrases; "Watch Together".
😂 Daft Rebrand, though U & W is amusing
I am dreading this rebrand, good video Adam!
U&W should really be called "Triple-U".
U think that U are safe from the UKTV rebrand? I think U&Dave will be your TV friend.
U & Corporate rebranding nothingness. U & Ur Identity Crisis! 😉🤣🤣
I think that U should have an ad-free option.
1:34 UUUUUU!!!
U & Yesterday and U & W makes no sense and the rest of them sound okayish U & Dave (it's just you and dave) U & Drama (not as bad but still kind of a naff name)
i dunno just think it sounds silly or like they are trying to be clever with the wordplay but feels cringy.
U is about to become one of the big bois.
😎
U better be good (no pun intended).
I'm normally a fan of unified rebrands, I'm not so sure above this one. I feel that it dilutes some of the individual brands. I do think that some unification was required as the UKTV/UKTV Play brand was still relatively unknown despite it's huge combined reach.
I'm surprised that this is going ahead despite the seemingly clear path for the BBC's streaming future.
Really... 'U&W'?! Did they put the work experience kid in charge of the re-brand?! 😂
It Would Have been worse if W was called U and it would be U&U
R.I.P UKTV
1:23. And U. And U and W. Oh god, on the 16th of July
