Balkans is not really geographical peninsula, it is a region. One that is on cross roads between different civilizations and powers, it is one of the oldest parts or Europe. It has extremely diverse topography and landscape that allows huge fragmentation and diversity. In short it has its own uniqueness, charm and identity that makes it quite special compared to rest of the continent. Greetings from one Bosnian
Formal Croatian & formal Serbian are both related to Shtokavian... which is actually of Bosnian origin. So, the similarities are obvious. Also even though the two languages have different ways of conjugating verbs, both are able to follow through the grammatical structure of sentences. Big problem comes in dialects. Some Northern & Southern Serbian accents are a little tricky. Also Croatian North Western (which is almost identical to Slovenian), and the Southern accent (which has a fair amount of Venet Italian nouns) have made it harder for the two languages to link up. Fortunately, formal Croatian has retained many similarities with Serbian, and regardless of the fact that Croatian youth have issues in reading the Cyrillic script (since Croatian is written in Latin), most Serbs do in fact understand & use the Latin script on a daily basis. Particular examples of this would be the Latin Script used almost exclusively in Montenegrin & Bosnian!

@Turkish Incel Brotherhood Actually, rakia (or arak, originally) is the Arabic drink and has nothing to do with Balkan rakia which is a fruit brandy, apart from the name which was borrowed via Turkish. As usual, Turks were just pathway between civilizations - European on one and Arabic and Persian on the other side, without really inventing anything, but claiming other's inventions as their own.
@Turkish Incel Brotherhood No, no, no, you got this all wrong. Turkish culture is just a poor imitation of Byzantine culture with an Islamic twist and a strong Arabic and Persian influence. The Balkans are a child of Byzantium, with Turks just being a continuation of that early relationship.
@Turkish Incel Brotherhood Yeah, maybe day to day you are still the horsemen from the Asian steppes. But the way your country is structured, backstabbing politics with frequent coups, despotic leaders, Constantinople controlling everything, kinda really religious but kinda not, music, art is just a ripoff of Byzantium, Arabs and Persians. And, by the way, when you stop criticizing and making the wrong assumptions about my culture, I'll stop doing that to yours. OK, Mustafa?
"Please do not start with politics and nationalism at the dinner!" "Don't worry, I won't." *4 glasses of rakija later there is a man explaining the history from the beginning of time till today

Imagine, you get up, call a friend, go downtown in a small city, you know everyone who lives there. Even if you are under 18 you go to the nearest store to get something to drink or you just get some homemade rakija. On the way you meet very friendly people and you initiate conversation, you get drunk with those random people and suddenly its 5 a.m. Its getting bright. Everyone dying for food you decide to go to the nearest bakery and get something good to eat for only 30 cents. Everyone happy you decide to go home. You remember that you have only 10 minute walk even if you live on the other side of the city. Without the fear of being shot or stabbed you go home and lie down on your pillow. This is how Balkan feels. You can go on and on making jokes about the Balkan but its the people that matter, I've been to many places, met a lot of people, but only in the Balkan you can find this much welcoming and friendly people . Much love from Macedonia
The Balkans Then: Wonce your having fun time drinking rakija, and then the second you know it, your being persecuted for hating a balkan country. Now: What you said.
Old people hate each other, but also have fond memories that make them nostalgic about the countries that they say they hate. A weird smoothie of emotions. They'll curse the other folks from the Balkans in general, but if they meet anyone in person, especially outside of Balkan, the outpouring of love is immense. Younger generations are much more chill and less conflicted about that. We have most of the love that the older generations feel towards one another, but basically none of the hate :)

I do not hate anyone on the Balkans. We, the Balkanians, have so many things in common - music, songs, tales, proverbs, traditions, the kitchen. When I walk through the streets of old Niš, Ohrid and Kavala, I feel like I'm in the Old Town of Plovdiv or in Tryavna. When I first traveled by car to Germany and I was in trouble, I was helped by Romanians. And a Serb separated from his time - with his car he led me to the exit of Belgrade. Hate comes from fear, and fear comes from the ignorance. Our Balkan fears are fueled by foreign interests on the Balkans - Russian, German, Turkish, American, British. By that we are forced to live. Divide Et Impera!
Some time ago, I was getting back home in Bucharest with my parents. On the highway, at a rest stop. mom saw a truck driver who spoke Polish, and offered him a small sandwitch and a doze of Pepsi. The man thanked her in polish. Mom didn't know polish, she still doesn't, but she understood and was happy. The polish man MUST have been surprised. I mean, who would just nicely give you some food when you are far away from home?
The Balkans are in my opinion the most underrated place in Europe. I mean when it comes to european culture or tourist destinations in Europe, people always talk about popular and "cool" countries like Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece (perhaps the most popular Balkan country), Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Russia but almost nobody talks about the Balkans.
There are small towns like Leskovac and Pirot in south Serbia. Dirty cheap (and plain dirty but what the hell) . AWESOME cheap food. Phenomenal nature.
Croatia is actually quite famous, not underrated at all. Montenegro and Albania are also becoming popular among tourists. So many times I've heard people visiting Dubrovnik, then going on a one-day trip to Montenegro and falling in love with that country
“Greeks love being Greek” Yea that’s 100% accurate and I’ve heard that more than once in my life. I will say though that Greeks really love wine and and it’s a major staple in Greece.
I am Serbian and went to Bulgaria once. We CAN understand each other if we fully concentrate to the communication ✌🏻Also we can perfectly understand Macedonian but we can't talk.
@@vuja9612 In Bulgaria the western dialects are the most difficult to grasp for the other part of the country, they are more close to serbian. but ultimately I can understand all slavic languages except czech and polish
@@jelenapopovic645 It sounds like a southern Serbian dialect yet you can't speak it? The northern Macedonian dialects do sound a lot like the southern Serbian ones, but as you go south the differences pile up. Because we were part of Yugoslavia for so long, many people here use Serbian words that were left from that period, which have no connection to our standard Macedonian language, and that can give you the illusion that our language sounds a lot like a southern Serbian dialect.
Also I don't hate anybody,in fact I love all Balkan nations except Albania. I am bulgarian and I've been to Belgrade recently and guess what everybody is happy to communicate and share time with me. No hate at all that's just stereotype

As a Serb, I agree. If you want to have real Balkan experience, you have to think like us! And, boy oh boy, is that messed up thinking!

Enemies in the Balkans but friends anywhere else in the world 😅
Balkan is state of mind, basically 😁
And this was the type of comment I was searching for, Bravo! 👏👏👏
I agree with all you said

The Balkans are in my opinion the most underrated place in Europe. I mean when it comes to european culture or tourist destinations in Europe, people always talk about popular and "cool" countries like Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece (perhaps the most popular Balkan country), Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Russia but almost nobody talks about the Balkans.
There are small towns like Leskovac and Pirot in south Serbia. Dirty cheap (and plain dirty but what the hell) . AWESOME cheap food. Phenomenal nature.

Nah croatia isnt underrated considering it is the 25th most visited country in the world and the world cup last year gave us dome clout
You're right, and Albania is my favorite one, but I love them all.
Croatia is actually quite famous, not underrated at all. Montenegro and Albania are also becoming popular among tourists. So many times I've heard people visiting Dubrovnik, then going on a one-day trip to Montenegro and falling in love with that country

People in Montenegro disliked their working hours, so they formed a comitee and changed the law on work days. They then read it out in front of a crowd.
-On Mondays we will have a rest from the weekend - no work
-On Tuesdays we will be resting to prepare for work - no work
-On Wednesdays we will work
-On Thursdays we must rest from the work - no work
-On Fridays we will be resting to prepare for the weekend to come - no work
Then they asked the crowd if there were any questions for the comitee, so someone asked:
Is every Wednesday going to be a work day?

One year, a long long time ago, there was a famine in Montenegro. There was no food at all.. People started to starve. Their leader, the bishop, gathered all the people and gave them a speech.. People of Montenegro,
We dont have any food and slow death awaits us.. we are a proud and brave nation and we shouldnt end like that but like brave people we are.
I suggest we all walk up to this huge cliff and on one command all jump to the abyss and end our lives swiftly.
All the people agreed with joy.
A while later there they are, all on the cliff and the bishop commands:
Brothers and sisters i will count 1, 2, 3 and then say JUMP!
When i say JUMP! We all go to the abyss together. Understood?
All the people agree with joy.
Bishop starts his count:
1
2
3
Wait, wait wait! Someone yells..
Here come the Serbs to our rescue and they bring us corn.
Is it ground corn or in grains ? Bishop asks..
In grains.
JUMP!!!

You've made a good informative video about Balkan states and it's politics and, at least in my opinion, no one is feeling insulted. That's quite a remarkable accomplishment my man!
He never mentioned how Russia helped out in the Balkan wars...:(
