Thoughts on Making Friends & Dating

  • I get asked fairly often-usually by young males in our community-about how to find a girlfriend.
I also get asked about how to make friends.
It seems like a lot of people are feeling lonely and isolated.
I definitely don't consider myself an expert on "girls and making friends" (is there such a thing?), but I'm happy to share what's worked for me.
Honestly, because there's SO MUCH variance in what people like, it's hard to say we should do certain things to appeal to all people.
In my opinion, the more we overthink about how to "crack the code" behind getting a significant other or making friends, the worse things get.
My recommendation is to work on yourself in all aspects-mentally, physically, spiritually, financially, emotionally, psychologically... Everything. This is a worthwhile pursuit in its own right.
At the same time, give to others and help people while expecting nothing in return-whenever possible. I go into the video about how we don't need to "give until we hurt" or overextend ourselves. It's okay to help ourselves first or distance ourselves from those who hurt us. However, giving to others without an ulterior motive is so rare nowadays that it truly makes you stand out. Doing so creates opportunity for you and everyone involved. It's just one of the best things you can do whenever you have a chance to manifest opportunity, build relationships, and cultivate a better life.
When we do all of these things, then the rest is left up to chance. I decided not to say "left up to destiny" because that sounded cheesy, but that's really what it is as well.
To build relationships, make yourself a person you would want to be friends with, help others, and you'll start building a community around yourself. Within this community, some will be lovers, others can be business partners, and others may just be good friends.
I hope that makes sense! I know I'm speaking quickly in this video haha. I was happy.

Hey everyone! What's some advice you'd give your younger self? Even if you're quite young, what would you tell yourself a few years ago?
I usually respond to comments for 20 minutes or so after I post a video, but I'm about to sleep. I'll answer a lot of them tomorrow! You're all the best.

I kid you not... My husband found me the second I had given up on this toxic mindset that the world owed me something because Im nice. I had just started living on my own and I realized just how unforgivingly cold the world could be. So, I stopped expecting good things to happen and every good moment became a surprising gift. Great summary! One thing I would add to this video is that be assertive and notice people action cues. From my experience, I did alot of nice things for people not expecting anything however they kept using me. At that point, it's only natural to tell people that you expect something or else I don't want to keep talking to a user. Assertive will help with that. With action cues, I notice people tend to be less direct than previous generation. Sometimes someone saying hi everyday meant they liked you rather than be friendly (at least many girls admitted this to me) so I say take the risk and get rejected to understand what the relationship really is.

This is the best take on how to find a partner that i've ever come across. There are too many relationship advice givers out there that act like there's some secret code to unlock someone's pants, or telling people tricks they can pull to make someone love them. Real life doesn't work like that. The way to get a true healthy relationship is to care for and respect people for who they are as a whole individual person. Nothing is more attractive than a person who's secure in their identity, respects others, and cares for others without expectation.

It's the non personal answer to why a girl stopped texting back. She didn't value your texts because they were too plentiful and she didn't want your attention it has no value to her. You are probably a great person, and you just have some insecurities about reciprocal love. I promise you, this is something you need to work on and build yourself. You need no one but yourself to fill that love. Being a great partner is filling in the things that maybe our SO lacks (minus the fundamentals obviously).
You will not receive love when asking for more from someone. You will receive love when you are comfortable knowing you love yourself, and that someone else is very much capable of loving you too.

You can't win. When you reject the help/attention, they say you're acting snobby/too good for them but if you accept it and then don't give them what they're secretly expecting in "exchange" for their good deeds, they say you led them on. It's been crazy having known you in Arkansas when I was such a mess, and then getting sober and stumbling across your TH-cam and seeing how incredible you are doing. This guy IS who he claims to be. He is how he claims to be. I hope your parents and their restaurant are doing ok, and you're keeping up with your tai chi.

2cents to share from many years of dating and wandering the world meeting people: you got pretty close to the conclusion I came to. Namely, two parts: sincerely be yourself (dont pretend to be something or someone you are not, because you want people to like the real you. But also strive to be the best 'you' that you can be.) And secondly, "give without expectation of reciprocation." ...that last statement came as a quote from a monk I became friends with. Even as an agnostic I am constantly exploring theology, and I asked him to define kindness, as I agree with the taoists who say all virtues ultimately come from kindness. So, what IS kindness? And he said ^that, and I thought it was a great way to put it.
Be sincerely yourself, be your best self, be kind. And things eventually work out.
I've had SO many girls cheat on me, many people be physically violent to me, uncountable people lie to me or otherwise be a negative influence on my life, ...but I've also found some solid friends along the way, by sticking to these principles.
🤷‍♂️ if you read this, I hope you found it interesting, and perhaps helpful.

Thank you for this Hampton, I need this. I always saw myself as a nice humble person, especially because I never dwelled on it but I think I subconsciously felt like I deserved better. I'm 20 and am still very confused about who I am and who I should strive to be but I'm glad people like you are out here helping others.

      Me too bro bro!
After 21 years i just noticed i've been giving people too much power in being able to influence my decisions. Be it peer pressure, drugs or even relationships.
We as humans, are really blessed to experience the universe’s greatest gift.... Life & Free will.
I now realize that i need to be mindful and present whenever im making decisions, the choices we make quite literally creates your reality and future life.
I'm done answering people just to please them, or making choices on auto mode. If someone asks of you what you cant give, it really is an injustice to YOUR OWN-SELF..... to NOT say NO and build needed BARRIERS in any relationship that NEED said barriers
By being mindful about my present choices,
I now see the weight of not thinking before making decisions.... there are often CONSEQUENCES THAT WE ARE UNPREPARED TO FACE.
      SO brudda.....
you say your confused about who you are
TAKE YOUR TIME TO THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE DECISIONS
Make sure what you do and want, is what YOU do and WANT!
By keeping it 💯 with yourself and others,
Only then can you really see who you are!
‼️PRAISE BE TO GOD FOR THIS MIGHTY GIFT THAT IS LIFE‼️
Almost died a couple times last year and i really cant re-iterate how important it is....
      TO
      LIVE
      WHATS
      YOURS✨
No one on this earth is like any of you!
So why try to be someone else...
WHILE YOU ARE SUCH A UNIQUE EXISTENCE.
LOVE AND TRULY BE YOURSELF BRUDDA❤️✨

I have no other words other than....thank you, I recently had my first day in college and found that many others in my class have already begun to find groups of friends heck one even got a girlfriend on his first day. I started thinking that maybe Im behind others? Maybe Im not as ahead as I thought I was? Your video really clarified to me all of us have our own pace and we shouldn't feel pressured to make friends at any given moment, but learn to slowly improve ourselves mentally, physically & spiritually until the day we find like-minded people
edit: whoop sorry for rambling on didnt know I typed that much, had to get these thoughts out of my head haha

I understand this completely!!! I always had a hard time making friends so whenever I was a freshman in college I felt so lonely my first semester, but honestly as time went on I made a few friends without realizing it. I'm in my third year of college and I feel l ike I'm back to square one again, because of the pandemic. All of my friends that I made now live off campus and my lease doesn't start till the fall so I have to stay on campus for this semester. They all have S.O.s, their own place, and I just feel like I'm so behind. Being in isolation this semester, I actually started to learn a lot of about myself and decided to stop focusing on what others are doing and focus on me until the focus is on me. I've been seeing that since I started getting my life together, the rest tends to follow after. When I stopped chasing after things in longing and fear, I attracted the things I actually needed. Breathe, focus on your classes, remember to take care of yourself, allow yourself to get help when you need it, and let yourself adjust to the college life. The first year is often the hardest so be kind to yourself.

Don’t worry about other people making friends or someone getting a girlfriend, seriously. You need to change your mindset of people having it better than you and keep a positive mindset.
