THE WORLD BEST GARNET GEMS IN SRI LANKA- LESSION 02

Have a good day. LSK gems, today we came to you with a new video. Today we continue the next part of the previous session. Actually these videos are for the new beginners to the gem market. And also these videos are not much important for the existing gem businessmen. So we invite new gem businessmen to join with us.
Today we discuss about; how to select the garnet gem and to decide the price at the gem market. Let’s discuss about that.
Now we talk about the tools that we should have at the gem market. This is very important to know when we enter to the gem market at the beginning. First tool is the torch with a clear light. There are many types of torch with a minimum price is Rs. 700. We should aware about the light of the torch. There are two types of lights. The natural light and the artificial light. We should select a natural light. Second tool is a scale to measure the weight of a gem stone. It is around Rs. 2,000 or Rs. 2,500. Don’t forget to take the scale when you go to the gem market. Next one is a caliber. We use caliber to measure the size of a gem stone. Caliber is used to measure the height and the breadth of the gem stone. And also we should take a bottle of baby oil. By using a baby oil we can find the foul of the gem stone. Another tool is an optiviser which is used by the person with the age limit higher than 40 years. We can buy an optiviser for Rs. 9,000.
Let’s discuss the way to select the gem stone at the gem market. Now you can see a lots of hessonite garnet gem stones with different types.
I have separated two types of hessonite garnet gems with two colors. Hessonite garnet gems with clear light color and the shape are the quality gem stones which we can give a good price at the gem market. The other set of the hessonite garnet gems is with dark color. So it is not easy to sell at the gem market with a good price. But we have to buy a lot of the hessonite garnet gems with both types. So we should buy a lot with more gems in light color (first type set).
We discuss about garnet gems and places we can find garnets from our last video. So now we discuss how can we select a garnet gem stone
We should have a good knowledge to select a quality garnet. Because, we can find garnets from different areas in Sri Lanka.
I have separated the lot of garnets in to 6 sets of categories. First set is with clear light color and in good shape. The second set is with good shape and dark color. Third set is with clear light color and different shapes with defects. Forth set is also in different shape with defects and dark color. Fifth set is clear light color that we are using to cut these stones. And the last set is dark color. So you should care about these sets and identify the differences of each and every set. .
Now you can see garnet gems stones on my palm. These are I bought at the Elahare area. There are two or three types of garnet. When we check the garnet at the first time, we should see it in natural light. This gem stone is a dark color stone. So we will not decide to buy this gem stone. We can buy it in low price. Second gem stone color is lighter than the previous one. So the price is higher than the first one. Third gem stone color is also lighter than the previous gem stones. So we can buy it without any doubt. Next we check the size of the gem stone and the table (face) of the gem stone. We can measure the height and breadth of the gem stone by using a caliber. After we can decide the final shape of the cut gem stone. Next we can check the inside of the gem stone whether there are fouls or not.
We can see the inside of the gem stone by using a torch light. We should check the inside and the aromatic of the stone whether the fouls are in the inside or the face of the stone. If we are not sure we use baby oil and put it in stone and again we can check it by using a torch light.
Now you can see the garnet gem stones after shaping it. These are the final cut of the garnet gem stone.
From these pictures you can have an idea about the gem stones which are to be selected at the market. You can see the final cut of garnet gem stones with different colors.

I guess your video would help someone get a slightly better understanding about garnets but you don't mention a thing about all the fakes being offered to unsuspecting people, I also think the cutting in Sri Lanka should change to more symetrical cutting such as what is cut in America, Europe and Australia, I confess that Native cut stones can be bought and recut but it would be nice to see some decent cuts from Sri Lanka, cut for perfection and not just for weight, obviously only my opinion.
