Yeah, I tried this in one of Konami's retro arcade packs and bounced off it hard. Why in the world did they limit the continues? It feels like someone got greedy and forgot that arcade games still need to be *fun* to suck down quarters, not just brutally punishing.
I remember seeing a cabinet of this at a local small arcade, and literally no one wanted to play it because of how hard it was so other games had lines of people waiting their turns to play while Haunted Castle was empty and that says a lot.
It’s cheap, not hard IMO. Hard is fun once you learn it…cheap is just out to steal your quarters. Dracula was mugging people for their change on this game!
HC has some ideas to love, from some stage settings to the unique weaponry, and it's why Revisited was such a great bonus game. All of HC's good qualities were put into a game with polish and time put into it.
I never bought this game for £150 9 years ago because some youtuber said it was crap.. when i finally completed my konami pcb collection, i bought this for £650 and found it was actually enjoyable. It's no cheaper than black dragon imo. I prefer it to it too. For those that can see through youtubers comments and get the pcb, you may find it like a dark souls type game. Its not the standard run and gun type but requires precise timing and skill not to mention the right method. Its going to be super frustrating if u play it like sunset riders or shinobi.
No arcade game should ever be too difficult to beat but I suspect that when this was produced, such thinking was not present. If it happened today, squeezing every last drop of profit would be priorities 1-10.
I'm using a couple tracks from this one for my Link to the Past custom MSU. It's such a good soundtrack. And yeah, this is a hands down quarter guzzler though
I don't even think it leaves you bus fare. I think it makes you take the risk of hitchhiking home. How people can actually 1cc the K revision absolutely boggles my mind.
As much as I love the franchise, this game has always been absolutely infuriating and Janky is definitely a good word to describe this horrific quarter muncher.
Honestly, I enjoy this game and it's a good 1CC to go after (I may just have too much time on my hands or I'm completely insane lol), it's Dracula XX that folks should stay away from though lol.

Oh it’s wholly a memorization game and some people absolutely love those for sure. I’m just not one of them
