    Thanks for the recipe! A little advice my dear... don't give in to the trolls. Anytime you react to them, they've won. It's your channel, your content, just create and be the best you, you can be!

    I love how you made this journal. I worked in a the conservation department of a seminary library where I rebound and repair the books by hand. So I appreciate what you did here!

    Loving your DIY/ Home Made Mediums, thank you so very much for taking the time to make them and share with us :)I am in the same boat as you, Living Rurual Remote (Although other side of the world) with no decent shops anywhere near me and shipping costs has become way out of control and most of the time far out ways the cost of the products themselves :(.

    Thanks for sharing my recipe for the clear gesso and linking my channel. I appreciate it. I came up with a DIY clear gesso because I needed some but wasnt willing to pay $15+ for the little bit i would use it so I started thinking about how we make regular gesso and add in the white paint and it got me thinking that if I omitted the white paint, would it be clear gesso? I thought, nah, it cant be that easy otherwise someone else would have done it... but apparently it was that easy and no one had done it (as far as on youtube or a search on the web is concerned). Its nice to know that for a lot of things we can usually figure out some sort of DIY to save us money. I enjoyed your video....and your art is amazing, youre very talented.

    I was just so happy to see you again. Not concerned about contest even though it will be nice, I like your channel because you make things make sense. That's also why I love the frugal crafter too. She wants to help people be creative, just like you do. Not try to sell you everything in their esty shop just to be able to make a project, that I really don't like. Becky B

    I like the idea of the clear gesso, but don't have the funds for buying marble dust or clear gesso from hobby lobby or Michael's or anywhere else at the moment. That is why I love diys, especially if I might already have the ingredients to make stuff. The other nitpicking ones can do what they want, but shouldn't be rude to others. We're not in kindergarten with the rich kids anymore. I think you are so sweet and downright funny. Take care.

    Another reason an artist? would want clear gesso is to prepare the canvas of a paint by number so you can still see the numbers!

    I have not done this myself, but have seen in videos that if you have a gel plate you can brayer your clear gesso or matte media, whatever, onto the gel plate then 'print' your water media treated page using the gel plate. It keeps your water color intact while sealing it since you are not spreading the gesso around. I know that it is more difficult to do that in a journal, but Dina Wakely has a gel plate that is 5.5"x 11" specifically to pick up and print right into her journals. I have 7x7 acrylic plates for my 6x6 gelli plate so that I can easily pick it up to print right onto the journal page also. I think even that would work reasonably to apply the clear gesso to a page even if you might have to print it several times to complete the full surface.

      @JanelleNichol  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Patricia Walker yes I have done that many times with pastels as well. I have many different sizes of gel plates & I have a video on how to make your one gel plates. This technique works very well.

    What would be the difference of clear gesso vs mod podge?

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Wildpaisley mod podge is very different from any gesso. Gesso is a primer, mod podge acts more like a sealer. Mod podge helps to resist paint, gesso helps to accept paint. They are two very different mediums.

    Rofl...omg, only 4 minutes into the video and tears are streaming. I use the 1/4 cup in the kitchen when something calls for a cup...IF it also calls for a 1/4 cup somewhere along the line. Why keep a dozen tools dirty and cluttering your counter if you can use one for duplicate purposes. Sounds like some people need to get a life :)

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh I know!! We all have reasons for doing things the way we do them but some people really feel the need to tell others it’s the “wrong way”.

    Lol there is just toooo many Karen's and Darren's out there , they would have a heart attack if they were to see me in action 😄 being an artist doesn't mean that you have to have the latest and greatest of everything. If it works and it gives you the results you want and makes you happy then use what you have. It's called improvisation , explore create

    People get upset over the dumbest things. Gloves? Using your paint brush handle to stir stuff? Using a small measuring cup to measure instead of a larger? Geez.... Just ignore them.
