Great review and channel! I just found it and subscribed! I have a 7070 and I love it. The place where I take my stereo equipment they just go off of specs. They don’t allow any LED lights to be placed in equipment that they are working on. I like the original lights. So I’m cool. I do think about getting a 9090 some day though, not a 9090DB but a 9090! But I’m in heaven with the 7070! When I switch to my other receivers and amplifiers, then go back to the 7070, it’s like Christmas! The sound and the looks of the 7070 is stellar! Wow!
Thanks for the comments and subscribing! I think it is very snobbish for a shop not to do what the customer wants, like put in LED lights. Since you have a 7070, unless it has been your heart's desire to get a 9090, start looking for an AU7700 integrated (or one of the more powerful intg amps). I will be doing a review on one in the future and that is a nice unit.
@@vintageaudioreview the place has been open since the 40’s. It’s just very old school. They have tons of business. If people don’t like it, they can find someone else. I think that Skylab channel did a review on the AU-7700. They said there’s an issue with those and a few other AU models. The Sansui AU line is one I like a lot though. I want a AU-9500 and the original AU-555 not the AU-555A. I guess the AU-555 is an amazing Tube sounding solid state amp. I got a McIntosh MA 230 which is nice for the tube experience, fantastic on certain albums. But for the AU models, I have a AU-D33 which I love. It’s one of the 80’s models where they really did a great job. I know a lot of people are scared of the 80’s equipment. There’s still a lot of gold there. A local record store has a AU-6500 that I’ve been thinking about.
@@mlblue5355 I will have to check out the skylabs video to see what they said about the au line- they are a great channel. My guess it would be the tone controls which I suppose could wear out and probably very hard to find or. Easy enough to check and you can bypass them if that was the only problem- that would be a great excuse to get an Equalizer. I don't know much about the AU6500- it is different than the au7500 in looks. My video on that is about a month away. Nothing wrong with the 80's gear, and some of the Pioneer stuff is pretty good as long as its working. The MA230 is nice.... A friend of mine was storing his brother's '58 Corvette in decent shape. His brother had him pull the engine out and transmission and trailer it to CA where he lives and is having it turned into an EV Corvette. That is a sin in my book, more so than putting LED lamps in, but that is what his brother wanted.
@@vintageaudioreview I looked back at the video description, seems it’s a AU-717 and a few others. So not the one you mentioned. The title of that Skylabs is “Sansui | Recalled for Fires”. He talks about a volume box issues too, where you can’t get into the box to repair. Volume pots! Something like that. It’s been awhile. It’s funny, was looking at those for awhile and thinking about buying one. Yes, sad about the 58 Corvette!
@@mlblue5355 The volume/balance pots on the AU7700 are standard ones- not sealed. Hope to hear from you after that video....

Thank so much for the compliment. Are you sure your name is not Ian (a joke- Ian has given me quite a few of the receivers I have tested). I have an upcoming video on a Dragon, but probably not another one of a cassette deck after that for a while. It is a nice hobby!

I am still enjoying my 9090 purchased in spring of 1978. My speakers back then needed this kind of power, but now I am running 91 db monitor audio Silver 300's, I would need a dance hall to utilize this system! lol. Although low volume is nice too.
I also have a Sansui 661, with 22 watts, this unit is very nice sounding and quite punchy!
My 30 year old boy , who likes his newer hi-end equipment, came over and heard the little 661.... and was a bit shocked at the sound quality. Ears don't lie. lol.
Thanks so much for sharing! With the efficient speakers, 22w is plenty for most listening. I bet you are glad you kept the 9090! I am sad I sold my 8080 in '79 or 80, but needed the money for my DJ system.
This modèl goes for a pretty penny - even listed for parts and repair. Also, it looks very similar to the Pioneer SX-1010.
