I just did this to a black max carbon fiber - glass extension cane pole from Walmart, it was a big blank and wanted to put handles on it , it’s black paracord on black rod with decorative gold and red thread wraps before and after the handles , I did do mine a bit different on starting and ending my wrap I made a tool out of thin wire and a pull handle out of 1/2” tree branch , toward the end of the wrap about two inches away from the end I laid down the wire tool , wrapped over it and when I got to the put the tag end through the wire loop and pulled it back through the last two inches of wraps , were the tag end stuck out on the handle I took a razor blade and cut off the tag end in between the wraps to leave a clean finish, added some super glue on each end we’re I started the Hanks wraps to make sure nothing came loose , I still have to do my forward handle as I only bought 1 bundle of paracord but it looks really great and is inexpensive, thanks for posting 👍🏼
Very interesting video but I am not sure I would do this with my fishing rods. 1: I have to many, I'd have to order several hundred feet and 2: it looks kind of uncomfortable. Fighting a big fish, it seems as if it might start to dig into your hand after a while. I could be wayyyy off on #2 though since I haven't tried it. I might wrap one of my catfish rods and give it a go this summer.
I rewrap all my rods if possible like this. And I’ve had no issues with it being uncomfortable on big fish . I prefer using a reel clamp so I can position my rod at the right height . The standard position is too low

I couldn't stand having a line under it so Pro Paste Epoxy made it look really good

would this work with hemp for a cat scratching post?
I have a nice beachcaster that had most of the foam handle chewed off my some mice, so I might try this instead of chucking it
