    Aren’t your worried about electrolysis with the bare aluminum with the steel shell?

    • @NoName-OG1
      @NoName-OG1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They will get slightly lighter over time....
      Steel not so bad, but if a slight element of other metals like say copper - bare AL turns to fluff quick- most steels not that bad. A little salt or chlorides get in there, that fluffy AL will ooz out.

    • @davidmoran6398
      @davidmoran6398 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoName-OG1 over what time horizon? I assume sliders are a consumable at their level of abuse. Would it last 5 years? Maybe it’s fine if you’re not wanting a 30 yr solution...

    • @NoName-OG1
      @NoName-OG1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@davidmoran6398 Time really depends on a number of different factors. Which metallurgical alloys - and exposure.
      As someone who deals with the similar metal contacts on a regular basis as an electrician - there are certain things that you don’t put together and aluminium with other metals are highly reactive. With the wrong metal alloys five years can be a maybe...
      As the original poster of this comment thread pointed out there is an electrolysis effect with aluminium and other metals. Essentially creates a low voltage battery, and overtime corrodes one or the other of the metals as a sacrifice. That said it could be the steel that rots - and most likely at the weld points…
      As hobbyist welder I know that the welds had weird heat sink issues and likely had to burn in hot and possibly pulled some aluminium into the welds.
      In general aluminium and other metals should be avoided most often.

    • @NextVentureMotorsports
      @NextVentureMotorsports 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The aluminum slugs are a bit shorter then the steel tubes with the intent to prevent the aluminum from being pulled into the weld. As for electrolysis or galvanic corrosion wouldn't that require an electrolyte solution/water/moisture of some kind?

    • @loneangler3926
      @loneangler3926 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NextVentureMotorsports in my experience and to the best of my knowledge, just the simple contact of the two different alloys will cause the reaction very quickly, reason when bolting aluminum you want to use stainless hardware or at minimum use zinc or some other coated hardware. I’m no metallurgist but I do have experience as a hobbiest fabricator and 15 years in the automotive accessory industry and have seen the effects of electolosis plenty of times and very quickly
