- The good news is that we are off on an exciting trip to PA and then Florida in search of sunshine. The bad news is that we are trapped in an icy apocalypse and must delay our departure. Also, Shane got new socks.

Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah just graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. Her future aspirations include attending graduate school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for 3+ years and living together in Minneapolis for a year. On June 15th, 2019 they got engaged!!!! Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.
Hannah’s mother is beautiful. She seems very kind, loving and supportive.

Awesome to see the way you handle Chloe when she is doing something naughty. Especially since she was abused. People don't realize the damage it causes just yelling at your dog, let alone one that has been through so much. You guys did fantastic!
I know, I was expecting her to at least raise her voice or something! That was the nicest scolding I've ever saw. I'm so glad Chloe ended up with Shane and Hannah. They're going to make great parents if they have a child someday.

I live in Sebring, FL! Yesterday, I was sweating so profusely I turned on the AC! You'll love it! Addendum: About an hour after writing my previous comment I went to pick up my mail at the mailbox station next to the swimming pool in my little community. I suddenly hear laughter and splashing? WTF? I go look over the pool's short wall to have a look. People were swimming and playing in the pool! Yep. Get your butts down here ASAP.

Losing your parents, especially your mom, makes you feel like an orphan, no matter your age. I'm 61 & still miss her, hugs to all!

Get wastebaskets with lids. They are great at keeping pets and kids out of the trash. You can find them everywhere - Target, Walmart, Container Store, Amazon. You will be so happy you did!

When you cook a good soup or stew, always put part of it in the freezer for a day when you can't cook, or feel ill, or want to take some to take some to someone else!

Can confirm that hitting black ice sucks, and it's pretty impossible to stop on. It happened to me on a beautiful, sunny, very cold day. I ended up rear ending someone while others had went off in the ditch. Everyone was okay thankfully. I still get very nervous driving when there's potential for black ice.

Safe travels! The weather here (in central FL) is very warm. It's 9:28pm an 73°. Much warmer in south FL. Have a wonderful time while here.

West coast is where it's at for winter sunshine!! I live in Arizona, our winter consists of 60s-MAYBE 50s on a cold day ;) the wind sucks but I'm 3.5 hours from LA, 1.5 hours from Las Vegas and 4 hours from Phoenix. Take your pick :)

"Shane's obsessed with black ice"..a friend of mine drove about 20 miles per hour on a gravel and dirt mountain road to show off his "new" red Corvett to me and our friends...was very careful going back down the mountain. Was terrified of a thrown piece of gravel damaging the car or paint job. Sailed into Boulder, hit a patch of black ice and totaled his new Vett. Be afraid Shane, be very afraid. LOL! Love you guys; you are so down to earth. Happy New Year!

The ice was seriously so bad today! My roommate delivers Amazon packages and they called off once the buses called out too, given Metro Transit basically never closes and this is the first time in 8 years. I hope you all make it to the airport safely tomorrow, keep us posted! Enjoy Florida!

Our family loves Florida! We have rented houses on Navarre Beach with three of our kids and nine grandkids several times. Have fun and be careful. Can’t wait to go back myself.
black ice is why I’m disabled. I was in a car accident in central Illinois in 2008 and I developed CRPS from it. Stay safe!

I’m in Pittsburgh pa and the weather is fair. Very low sunshine. But no snow “yet” !!! 🙏❤️👍🏻
I am also from the north and a Snowbird. I have a genetic disease that affects my joints. I use a Walker that doubles for a wheelchair if I need it. My teenage daughter has this disease too and we are so much healthier when we go south for the winter. I hate being locked in my house because my wheelchair is not snow friendly. It’s very important for me to stay active because it helps counteract the symptoms of my disease. Going to Florida helps me so much! I hope you too receive many great benefits from being more active in the winter!!

I can’t speak to the wheelchair but I am disabled by severe pain and live in a very dark Alaska. The only time we have ever left was for deaths. So glad you are able to get out. Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.
Ahhhhhhh I fell behind on your vlogs for a couple of weeks, and I KNEW you were going to be in/are in Florida from your IG! The hardest part is I just came back from visiting the Southern part of Florida for a two week trip-- just missed ya! Beware; the weather is chiller down there than I expected (I'm from Colorado), and I was cold in the clothing I brought. Bring sweatshirts and jeans.
Growing up we had dogs that used to take tissues (amongst other things) out of the trash. It got to the point that we had to keep the cans high up so they couldn't get to the trash.

I’ve had really good luck with renting wheelchair accessible houses in Florida.
All of the hotels in Miami, well from West Palm Beach down to Miami are very good with wheelchair accessibility and also the majority of bed and breakfast are as well
How are the prices?
Jordan Schroeter well Florida itself is really expensive so I’m not sure about the hotels but they probably aren’t too cheap unless you go to a hotel further from the city or just a motel or something

I live here and it’s amazing but I don’t have any disabilities and don’t use a wheelchair but because of how popular this state is for elderly people with wheelchairs I’m sure it’s much better than other places. You can find an elevator in pretty much any place and the terrain in Florida is very flat so there really shouldn’t be too many problems
